An even better example is that Kirby is a species.
That one's a little weird though because most of them are dubiously cannon (or split copies of Kirby). After that there's Meta Knight, who's species is used as a point of intrigue, Shadow Kirby, which is just Kirby again, and Keeby, a P2 character who was dropped almost immediately and didn't even reappear for Star Allies.

I just think a large portion of the fandom do have a bias against most cutesy or casual characters.
checks wishlist

Cutesy: Kunio, Metal Slug, Bub/Bob, Viewtiful Joe, Goemon, Bomberman, Captain Toad/Toadette. Not a ton, but a few.

Casual: What is that? Like, Fortnight? I don't think I have anything like that.

Side topic: what is the chance of Metal Slug getting more than remixes next Smash?
Some.

Good luck with that. I’m 40 and I’m still here lol.
45, young blood.

I happy for you being able to enjoy OW again- but what does any of this have to do with the current thread topics?

I thought you were going to tie it back to Smash with some OW related thing that you think could work in a new Smash. Like "Oh, I got back into OW, I think it'd be cool for x character to make it in" or "Smash could try doing cosmetics like OW" or something.

Again, glad you can enjoy the game, but this feels like such a left field, off topic personal thing probably better fit for the social thread. If you want to talk OW, by all means, just kind of funny that you just tacked on "oh, right this is a Smash thread, here's a stage" at the end there.
Let's just say I have an unfortunate timing of entering the Social thread at the wrong time. Which just feels like a lot lately. I mean, understandably it's a social thread, which means it's far more common for some of the people there to be in a bad mood, but it always feels like it's hard to say something positive whenever I come by and look.

Besides, I already ask for Alternate and DLC costumes for the main characters all the time and I would be okay with an Overwatch character, though I certainly don't see one getting over Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, Dragonborn, etc.

I try to find a way to tie whatever I’m talking about to Smash. Like I’m watching the Fallout show so I tried to ask relevant Smash related questions about the potential of the series in Smash. I finally beat Metaphor and wanted to talk about that so I tied that into asking about Will in Smash. I think as long as you tie the topic into Smash somehow, it’s fine to talk about other things that you’re interested in. I do it all time.

37 year old here, and I am not ashamed of still speculating about Smash.
I'm 27 and i've been speculating on smash forums since like 2011. I think i'll be 60 and still be speculating about Smash in forums, telling the younguns about the good old days of Ultimate Fighter Pass Speculation when we though KOS-MOS was going to be revealed in TGA 2019, altrough though that's probably because im neurodivergent and not much social life, i don't expect it to be the norm among 60 yo xD.

In general it confuses me when people say theres multiple kirbies as other then meta knight and the other knight and shadow kirby everyone else is either Minigame/ Barely canon spinoff only or the three splitted of kirbys from amazing mirror!

And I just dont get the hype for keeby!

But granted i think these pet peeves are on the same level as Kirby 8 Inches and Kirby is a baby for me!

Kirby is Young child, That can probably talk, Is half as big as a human kid and isnt really part of a species to me!

I still think it would go a long way if HAL just gave BWD an actual ****ing name. No, he's not a generic character, but they're not doing him any favors when his identity would be like if DK and Diddy were called "Tie Ape" and "Hat Monkey".

Even just having a name would help him seem like more of an actual character and less of an elevated mook.
Can I take a moment to say that BWD was named specifically because he was made to be an elevated mook rather than his own character? During an interview for Star Allies, Kumazaki had this to say:

Shinya Kumazaki (translated in DeepL) said:
There are many kinds of waddle dee, such as a waddle dee with a spear, a waddle dee riding on a nruff, and a waddle dee flying with cotton wool, but I thought it would be more recognizable if it became a player character. So, with Bandana Waddle Dee, I am trying to gain citizenship for the character of Waddle Dee (laughs). Originally, when I was working on “Wii,” I wanted to have Dedede the Great, Meta Knight, and at least one more standard character in the world of “Kirby,” so I introduced Bandana Waddle-Dee as a representative from the Waddle-Dee clan.
At first I thought about giving him a unique name, like “Bandy,” for example, but I wanted to raise awareness of Waddle Dee rather than promote his name, so I simply went with Bandana Waddle Dee.
Bandanna Dee has always been something of an odd character in that he was developed without ever really intending for him to be his own character in the first place. Heck, even when he was made playable in Returns to Dreamland, he was still just referred to as just a Waddle Dee, and Bandanna Waddle Dee was just a fan nickname that stuck around and became cannon.

On some level, this just makes sense for a time, as Waddle Dees have become just as iconic to the series as Kirby himself, to the point where they may even have more merchandise than Kirby, and certainly more than Meta Knight and Dedede. Bandanna Waddle Dee exists almost purely to act as their representative in the games, even as he has grown into his own character.

At this point, it's been over a decade of referring to him as Bandanna Waddle Dee, and most Kirby fans I know seem just fine with it. It's been Grandfather Caused in, and honestly I think changing his name at this point would just cause confusion.

I agree but I think they should ditch the “Waddle” officially and at least let the dude be Bandana Dee. It doesn’t matter all that much but seeing BWD written out officially is still kind of a mouthful (finger…ful?), and that’s what everyone already calls him anyway.

I don't think Kirby's species has ever been given a name, we just call the Kirbies for simplicities' sake. Also helps that, as you said, there isn't any other members of his kind without ambiguity or strings attatched, so as far as we know the Kirby "species" could just be Kirby and that's it.

Am surprised how much older some of you guys are. Am only 26 that’s being young compared to a lot of you guys woah.
I'm 19. I grew up with the Wii. As far as Smash spec goes I'm a baby

Magolor in my opinion is the most likely Kirby character if its about the modern games outside of Bandana Dee.

Bandana Dee is weird because he actually appeared in the original Kirby Super Star but he wasn't established as a distinct character until the remake on DS.
Yeah, Mags is definitely the most prominent character after the RtDL foursome. He doesn't show up enough to be considered part of the core cast, but he's popped up in other games from time to time and even had an Extra Mode and character arc to himself in RtDL DX. Most characters in this series show up for a game or two and then get relegated to cameos until Star Allies. Having any sort of staying power in Kirby goes a long way.

Yeah, it’s hard to wrap my head around the age differences sometimes. So many of the games I’m nostalgic for from when I was younger were released over a decade before some here were even born. I think the biggest example is RARE and their previous history with Nintendo. Unless you’re a dinosaur like me, you probably won’t have any memory of RARE’s games on Nintendo. It goes beyond that to anything that was popular on the NES and SNES that isn’t really still relevant now. I feel like I was born at a convenient time for gaming (and just gaming) that I got to experience every era of Nintendo while it was new.

I'm 32 years old. I have loved Smash speculation since the Brawl days and I won't stop anytime soon. I still remember checking the Dojo back in 2007 and being hyped beyond belief when this popped up on a random day:

I think the Dojo was the best prerelease hype cycle for any game ever. It’s a shame we can’t really get something like that again. Ultimate’s picture of the day thing wasn’t nearly as engaging.

It makes sense plenty of Older Millenials and Gen X were around speculating about Smash Bros. in the internet during the pre-Brawl days even, also begin in your 40s yo isn't even that old, so it makes sense they're still there.
One day we'll have kids born in like 2035 be amazed that we were around during the pre-smash 6 days, heh!

I don't want to be too specific about my age. I'll just said I was born during the NES era.

When I first saw this, I got so excited, I actually went outside and walked up and down my street. lol

I was like 9 when the DOJO was updating and i was a PS2 kid back then so i didn't experiencie it and i'm not even sure i was aware Smash Bros. even existed at the time lol, still i think i looks like a really fun way to do a videogame pre-release cycle and keep the community engaged, i hope not just Smash 6, but more games do a similar pre-release cycle as the Smash Bros. DOJO!
Like not just even fighting games for example a Kingdom Hearts game could be stuff like this:
Day 1: World: Toy Box (1st Update)
Day 2: Keyblade: Kingdom Key
Day 3: Character: Buzz Lightyear
Day 4: Magic: Cura
Day 5: Gameplay: Flowmotion
...etc.

I'm turning 19 in a little less than a month, so still kinda green compared to some others here, but I like to think I'm hopefully a bit more mature than the 14 year old I was a few years back. Playing Smash Brawl on the Wii are some of my oldest memories.

With that in mind, I also grew up with Return to Dreamland, and it was kinda strange for only one of the main characters in that game to not be playable in Smash. It's definitely just bias on my part, but I've always imagined Bandana Dee as one of the easiest newcomer additions from 4 onwards, though it also isn't entirely surprising to see it hasn't happened.

I think with magic and Parasol moves to spice up gameplay, Bandana Dee's exaggerated spear techniques would make for a fun and silly playstyle. Yeah he's the generic enemy in a hat trope, but I feel as if now more than ever he's distinguished himself as his own character. I don't view him as a lock, but I have grown more fond of the idea of him being included. Not my most wanted, but I'd be hyped if he showed up in a reveal trailer.

Is everyone ok with how final smashes work in Ultimate? Quick and fast to resume the fighting faster with little control influence from player unlike in Brawl and Smash 4.

Also, any final smash ideas for potential characters if they join?

Spyro: Convexity (Aether) element or Power Orb Clash
Crash Bandicoot: Mojo Beatdown or Aku Aku
Shantae: Half Genie Hero
Doom Slayer: BFG 9000
Rayman: Dreams Unite or Rabbids Madness.

I feel like changes made lot of them similar to each other in terms of function.

I remember a time when Solid Snake showed up during the E3 trailer:

But Snake and Sonic appearing as Smash Brawl's guest characters was the hype back then.

EDIT: I was in college studying at the time the E3 trailer for Brawl was first shown.

As much as the older Final Smashes were cool, the current ones keep the game flowing faster. I wouldn't mind the option for the other kind, but having more than one Final Smash is a lot of work. Very few get that option in a single game for a reason.

I feel that lol. I went back to read some posts I made on a old account from Ultimate speculation, and it's best left buried.

1. Hell no. It just makes all of them feel repetitive, along with sucking out all of the creativity.

2. I guess if I had to think of one for Magolor, it’d be Magolor Cannon. He’d throw a magic ring that traps multiple opponents into a black hole that he shoots a laser beam into. Fighters above 100% would be instantly KO’d, and those below it would instead be spiked.

Everyone's talking ages and I already kinda mentioned mine by saying I was 15 when I joined, but yeah I'll be 29 in like two weeks lol

Grew up on the Gamecube which is why I'm very excited about the trend semi-recently of remaking and rereleasing games from the Gamecube/GBA era like the TTYD remake (favorite game of all time), Pikmin 1 and 2, etc.

Gamecube NSO would make me feral probably depending on what's on it lol

Despite Melee being my first non-educational video game ever though, I didn't really know about Brawl's pre-release since I was like 10-11 when all that was happening, so that's why Smash 4 was my first time speculating.
