1. Hell no. It just makes all of them feel repetitive, along with sucking out all of the creativity.

2. I guess if I had to think of one for Magolor, it’d be Magolor Cannon. He’d throw a magic ring that traps multiple opponents into a black hole that he shoots a laser beam into. Fighters above 100% would be instantly KO’d, and those below it would instead be spiked.
I just now realized that I got screwed over when I refreshed the page, so I edited this reply to complete it.

I don't inherently dislike cutscenes, a lot are cool. Some like Sephiroth's really couldn't be anything but a cutscene. They're also def better than crap like the DK Bongos.

I just don't like that they're almost the only final Smashes we get now. It "speeds up" the game, but plenty of in-engine Final Smashes can do that too, without taking extra players out. Take Triforce Slash and Great Ather; these are what I prefer. Some of the cutscene final Smashes easily could have worked that way, like Byleth's.

...And it's been said a million times, but I also don't like that they removed transforms for that reason. I get the way they worked often paused matches, but I feel reworking them would have been a better solution. Make stuff like Wario-Man take reduced knockback rather than none so you can fight him, that would have gone a long way I think.

I think with magic and Parasol moves to spice up gameplay, Bandana Dee's exaggerated spear techniques would make for a fun and silly playstyle.
Admittedly, I'm still not a fan of this approach. I'm fine with turning the spear into a parasol sometimes - I can see that transformation being more seamless and doesn't get in the way of the point I'm trying to make. In fact I quite liked a concept someone here had a while back where he can actively stance change between the two.

But I'm not keen on giving Bandana Dee a beam / magic projectile. Their gameplay should prioritize spacing physical attacks and shouldn't incentivize camping and zoning IMO, so I see it as incompatible with the overall package. Yeah, I'm sure he would have a spear throwing attack, but I like to think that would have more risk reward than simply being a spammable projectile, and might not be too far reaching compared to like... Charge Shot. It being gravity-based like an arrow and probably a good deal slower helps level things out for me.

Over time I've just come to appreciate efficiency within a niche over the "everything and the kitchen sink" angle. We don't have a spear user in Smash, so it'd be fine to sponge as much as we can out of that simple concept and the character would still stand out. At least that's how I feel about it.

I've never understood the beam/magic angle for Bandana Dee. I get that it's like Beam Kirby, but like Bandana Dee has never used magic before I don't think. Parasol and Spear sure, he uses Parasol in Battle Royale and Spear about everywhere else, but giving him Beam abilities just makes me think we're gonna randomly pull a Kirby 64 and have him grow a massive eye out of his face to shoot a projectile lmao

There will always be cuts to make room for new ideas. It may not work, but they might act as a prototype for another one later on. If anything, fan games of Smash Flash and Crusade did give more creative ideas on how final smashes could work. So, we will see. Until then, Pokemon Direct is arriving February 27th.

A copy ability I think people should look toward further to expand on Bandana Dee's moveset potential is Staff.

There's already a lot of shared DNA between the two, being thin long-reaching melee weapons, so giving him some of the spicier stuff here like the pogo jump and the aerial rapid jab attack could be productive. Much like how Meta Knight borrows from Wing Kirby, and so forth. Giving Dee's spear the capacity to be a little stretchier feels like a welcome and unobtrusive creative liberty.

Honestly, Bandana Dee having the option to use a Staff-style bounce for either burst movement/momentum shifting or cancelling or a strong midair attack as like a down special is a really solid implementation, and that's just basing it on what Staff's bounce move literally does lol

Also, any final smash ideas for potential characters if they join?

Spyro: Convexity (Aether) element or Power Orb Clash
Crash Bandicoot: Mojo Beatdown or Aku Aku
Shantae: Half Genie Hero
Doom Slayer: BFG 9000
Rayman: Dreams Unite or Rabbids Madness.
I think Ultimate final smashes are pretty boring in general, altrough they're more consistent, so they're more balanced and would work better with the newly introduced Smash Final Meter, but still not a big fan.
I personally would change them back to Brawl/Smash 4's. Like for example, make Hero final smash be Quadraslash, , which consists of a giant sword falling from the sky instead.

I also wonder if traditional event matches will return next game, as spirits might not come back.

I tried incorporating Staff Bounce into one of my Bandana Waddle Dee movesets, but it just felt like it would be super clunky as a Down Special. The overlap with the aerial version of Ground Thrust doesn't help...It just occured to me that the two should probably just be given the same input, but with Staff Bounce being the aerial version of Ground Thrust.

I still question the wisdom of an approach/escape tool like this on a small swordfighter with a projectile and potentially multiple jumps, but I do feel a little better about it's inclusion now.

Honestly I always forget about Ground Thrust because it got added to Star Allies in like version 4.0.0 or whatever, so I never remember that it's basically the same sort of deal but you can choose to attack or pole vault basically, and it's even literally a down B input in Star Allies lol

This is an interesting point - I know that he technically can do this in the Kirby games, but I think Smash would neglect that and simply give him the normal two jumps. BWD's ability to jump like that in Kirby feels more functional to put him on par with the other three rather than a choice made with his character in mind, since he just kinda keeps hopping on air instead of inflating or using wings like some of his pals.

That all depends what is the next main attraction for the single player content other than Classic mode. With both Galeem and Dharkon defeated, Light and Dark are balanced and all Spirits are able to move on to create new life. As Lifelight itself did explain the aftermath.

Yeah infinijump is dubiously cannon, but it appears for every playable character that can't fly, and contributes heavily with how these characters feel to control. I honestly think it could go either way.

I feel that lol. I went back to read some posts I made on a old account from Ultimate speculation, and it's best left buried.
I went back some days ago to some posts i made in '11 when i was 13 in a smash forum in that post-brawl and pre-smash 4 time frame.
I used to call people who wanted Zoroark instead of Emboar "noobs" back then, it's funny looking back at it now, but man i feel bad for the people of back then...i had some strong opinions back then for some reason, i also proclamed myself as Ridley 1st hater for whatever reason.

You know, they probably wouldn't do this, but now I'm imagining Bandana Dee having a normal number of jumps like most other characters, but he can use his Parasol as like a descending Peach-style hover for a bit too sorta like the item version used to, to give him a little more aerial movement like the others get with their multiple jumps before he has to Spear Copter lol

Nope. I miss the transformation Final Smashes, and think they're a better way to represent stuff like Mega Lucario or Wario-Man. Quicker cinematic supers are good in 2D fighting games, but since Final Smashes are never used competitively in Smash, we should be able to have more fun with them.
Also, any final smash ideas for potential characters if they join?
For my wanted characters:

Bandana Waddle Dee: Waddle Dee Army
Dragapult: Draco Meteor
Isaac: Judgment
V-Raptor: V-Ripper
Hatterene: G-Max Smite
King Boo: King Boo Clones
Maxwell: Nuke
Morrigan: Finishing Shower
Athena: Green Egg
Crazy Dave: Doom-shroom
Scorpion: Toasty!
Dizzy: Imperial Ray
Shadowheart: Divine Intervention: Sunder the Heretical

It's also his shield attack in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, though since I went through the whole game without ever learning about shield attacks, I'll forgive you for not knowing that either. lol

It's pretty fun though. There's a couple of them that are pretty broken.

I'm not keen on giving Bandana Dee a beam / magic projectile. We don't have a spear user in Smash, so it'd be fine to sponge as much as we can out of that simple concept and the character would still stand out. At least that's how I feel about it.
In my eyes, Bandana Dee using magic would be limited to the vertical up to down whip that functions more like a melee attack in the context of Kirby, maybe with the ability to charge it and increase its range, which if anything kinda encourages proper spacing given the endlag the move normally has in Kirby games. Aside from that the only projectile I'd envision is the diagonal downwards shot you can do in the air with the Magic copy ability in most games, a move which isn't often seen in Smash and is kinda hard to imagine camping with. Honestly, Spear Throw, though an ability I could definitely see being included, sounds more like it would promote the zoner playstyle you want to avoid than my magic attacks do.

In terms of the other angle, while I understand wanting to hone in on spear attacks given it's an under explored archetype, my concept includes scepter taking up exclusively down special as an attack, so I feel like the fear this is just throwing the kitchen sink into his moveset is misplaced. It's an established ability of his species that has room to play uniquely in-game.

Parasol is kinda the same logic, although admittedly I think the idea of him having basically Peaches up special is kinda lame, and would rather the spear copter be worked in instead. I think a defense based side special similar to how he attacks and defends with it in game is more appropriate, being a short range move pushback tool that blocks enemy attacks or projectiles, with the downside of long end lag so if can't be spammed.

That's interesting, i though of giving Tom Nook a move similar to that (without the attack) because of the valuting pole tool in New Horizons.

I mean while Waddle DOOS can use Beam abilities, Bandana Dee has never used beam abilities before, so it feels like an odd inclusion to his character. Parasol is something he's actually used before though, in Kirby Battle Royale.

Also I don't think anyone has said to basically give him Peach's Up Special, I was saying earlier he could use his parasol as a hover to cover more ground horizontally BEFORE he uses Spear Copter to actually recover. Pretty much every moveset I've ever seen for Dee gives him Spear Copter as a recovery.

Good point, but I still don't really consider it that odd an idea. The Magic Copy is one of the mainstays in the series, it's held by one of the main variants of the Waddles. It isn't like it needs to be there or anything, but I could see it getting an easy homage in his moveset.

Not opposed to that idea at all. To clarify, I wasn't referring to anyone here in regards to the Peach Up Special idea, it's just something I've seen in a couple fan movesets and felt like commenting on. My bad if it felt like I was dumping on someone.

I mean I suppose? It's Beam btw, Magic is a completely different Copy Ability that's only in Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad, which may be where part of the confusion comes from.

All the same, Bandana Dee represents the Waddle Dees specifically, and I don't know if the Waddle Doos are included in that (they're presumably related but it's kind of a weird grey area lol), but the only Waddle Dee that's ever used Beam style abilities is the one in 64 after being consumed by Dark Matter and growing a Waddle Doo eye, which is why the idea feels strange to me I think lol

Fair point, I guess I just put the idea together from second hand association and never really thought too hard about it.

I mean it wouldn't be the first time a character in Smash has used something they've never used before, I just think between Spear and Parasol Bandana Dee has more than enough to make a workable moveset with some potential intricacies to it via things like Ground Thrust's pole vault or Staff's bounce on Down Special as means of throwing momentum around in a way most Smash characters can't necessarily do.

Am mixed, on one hand a lot of the quick cinematic final smashes are really cool looking and show of a lot of characterization of the character, and honestly some of the cinematics are more fitting for some characters. But nonetheless I do miss some of the playable final smashes in brawl, I think we should have a balance in the next smash game with cinematics and more playable final smashes. Or the best case scenario would be for a very few characters to have a final smash that begins with a playable final smash but if you land the last hit you end up with a cinematic final smash. That way you get the best of both worlds.

As for ideas for final smashes for some newcomers.

And this is where my idea for the next games’s main collectible comes in: Battle Cards & Support Tokens. The name “Battle Cards” is derived from the name used for Melee trading cards from about 20 years ago.

Battle Cards would be a compromise between Trophies and Spirits; giving you a description of the card’s abilities in the front, and a blurb about the character themselves on the back. Support Tokens would be the same as Support Spirits, except now there’s three slots at all times.

I imagine a decent amount of the clamor for beam Bandana Dee comes from the fact that Beam Kirby uses a rod, which is more or less a polearm. And if you're giving the guy a staff that can turn into an umbrella, why not let it turn into a rod as well? it adds some visual flair, if nothing else. I think he could get by without it though; if they really want to give him some 'magic' they could use some of the elemental spear abilities from Star Allies..

Alear would definitely use an Engage attack, likely some variation of Bond Blast
Any Gen 9 Pokemon would probably terastalize and use Tera Blast
Aether/Lumine would draw something from a bunch of their elemental bursts. Or grow wings like at the start of Genshin and do a bunch of slashes.
Ghost/The Knight(HK) would do what it does in Dream No More/Godhome endings; shedding its shell to attack as void.
Noah/Mio would turn into Ouroboros and either do one of their chain attack finishers or draw the Sword of Origin
Sans could something something Gaster Blaster something something you're blue now. More seriously, he could use (a portion of) his opening or final attacks from his boss battle.

Much like how Meta Knight borrows from Wing Kirby, and so forth. Giving Dee's spear the capacity to be a little stretchier feels like a welcome and unobtrusive creative liberty.
Umm, If only there was another potential character that you could fully give a staff moveset too for the next smash from a certain JRPG that’s getting a remake this year 🧐.

Is everyone ok with how final smashes work in Ultimate? Quick and fast to resume the fighting faster with little control influence from player unlike in Brawl and Smash 4.

Also, any final smash ideas for potential characters if they join?

Spyro: Convexity (Aether) element or Power Orb Clash
Crash Bandicoot: Mojo Beatdown or Aku Aku
Shantae: Half Genie Hero
Doom Slayer: BFG 9000
Rayman: Dreams Unite or Rabbids Madness.
Sure, I made a few complete movesets for characters I’d love to see but I’ll just share the Final Smash ideas here:

Battletoads - Wrecking Ball: This could play pretty much exactly like Pikachu’s Final Smash. The Battletoad could turn into a spiked wrecking ball instead of an electric one. Afterwards, all of the Battletoad’s attacks can be their fully powered up transformation versions for a little while regardless of your opponent’s health. Normally their limbs would only transform against opponents with 80% damage or higher.

Jinx - Super Mega Death Rocket: This is her super from 2XKO where she summons a giant pink monkey turret which fires a super mega death rocket that acts similarly to Olimar’s final smash.

Magus - Dark Matter: This is based on Magus’ most powerful skill in Chrono Trigger. Magus envelops the opponent in darkness with his cape. This starts out a lot like Meta Knight’s final Smash. It then transports anyone caught to a cutscene that causes massive damage to each of these opponents with a massive spinning triangle of dark energy.

Sarah Kerrigan - Apocalypse: Kerrigan surrounds herself in a radius of energy. Any opponent that comes within range is struck by an explosion which triggers a cinematic cutscene. This scene mimics the final few seconds of the Betrayal on Kerrigan scene. After landing the initial strike, the opponent is transported to a ruined planet where he or she is surrounded by zergs on all sides. As they reach the target, the screen turns to black. It then returns to the normal battle screen and the opponent takes massive damage and knockback.

Illidan Stormrage - Parasitic Shadowfiends: Illidan strikes his opponent and transitions to a cinematic cutscene where he summons an army of shadowy figures that deal massive damage to anyone caught in the attack as well as recovering some health for Illidan.

Zegram Ghart - Gates of Hell: This is based on Zegram’s ultimate triple team attack from Rogue Galaxy which he performs with the protagonist, Jaster Rogue and one of their partners, Lilika. To initiate the attack, Zegram thrusts his sword in a sweeping motion and anyone caught in range is teleported to a cutscene. Here, Jaster carves a spell circle in the ground while Lilika uses it to summon a huge otherworldly gate from the ground. Zegram slices the gate open with his sword and releases a huge wave of cursed energy which deals massive damage to anyone caught in the initial activation.

Another option for Zegram’s final smash is Jaster’s triple tech, Supernova, that he performs with Zegram and Kisala. In this move, all three dash into the sky and form a giant laser beam with their swords that explodes the planet. Even though this isn’t Zegram’s move specifically, it does feature him as well as the main heroine, Kisala, rather than Lilika, who is more of a side character.

Phoenix Wright/Ryunosuke Naruhodo: Ace Attorney, Pulled from Marvel Vs Capcom 3 where Phoenix catches someone and throws all the evidence he collected at them, proving them to be a murderer in court.

Masaki and Cybuster: Cosmo Nova, this attack in Super robot wars is the Cybusters strongest move, which hits everything around it, basically a screen nuke.

Agumon: Gaia force, he warp digivolves into his final form Wargreymon and throws a massive balls of fire down at the field.

Megaman.EXE: Double beast, a formerly japan exclusive attack that was made available to everyone when the game was remastered in the legacy collection, this attack shows Megaman turning into both super forms from cybeast gregar and Falzar versions, unloading the attacks at the nearest enemy, video below

Same with Pokemon in general excluding Mewtwo depending on the media.
I always assumed Mewtwo and Lucario were meant to be the ones from the anime, hence the voice actors.

Greninja is meant to be explicitly Ash's since it turns into the form made by bonding with Ash.

This would be cool, i think Smash/Battle Cards would be a great idea for the next game collectible.
This could also allow us to have a card for every stage as well, which understably, stage trophies and spirits have been a bit lacking.
I pictured the concept similar to Theatrhythm Dragon Quest's collecta cards, with having diferent rarities as well, with each rarity having a diferent pose and color.

Guess this year is the year of the comeback of JRPG staff users haha.

Well my The legend of heroes bias aside this guy would be pretty cool too I would be happy with his inclusion.

I mean Beam's rod/wand/whatever you call it isn't really a polearm, though. Kirby holds it in his hand at one end and beams come out of the orb, so if anything, the shape of it is more like a microphone.

Speaking of Kirby and Bandana Dee, whatever moves he gets, he should get some abilities Kirby copies in the newer games. I think Bandana Dee would be a great for representing those abilities. I do understand not all of the newer abilities may fit Bandana Dee, though.
