Some kind of Spear Toss is definitely needed for Dee, but aside from that, he can be a quick close range fighter. Giving him a beam wand has always seemed weird and forced to me. Parasol would be better because he's at least used it before, but I'd be fine with only giving him a spear, since he'd be our first spear fighter. Adapting some of Staff Kirby's techniques isn't a bad idea either.

Speaking of Bandana Dee, do you all think that if they still had the glide mechanic from Brawl, Bandana Dee could use his spear and twirl it like a helicopter to glide?

I mean, he does not necessarily have to, as it could be another move, but this is just a thought.
I would assume Spear Copter would just be his recovery. I think Meta Knight should be the only character with a glide though in the Kirby cast if it comes back since he's the only one with actual wings lol

Is everyone ok with how final smashes work in Ultimate? Quick and fast to resume the fighting faster with little control influence from player unlike in Brawl and Smash 4.
No. The way Ultimate handled Final Smashes is a travesty and it's disappointing how practically all of them were homogenized to be the same. There are very few unique Final Smashes in Ultimate when compared to Brawl, a game with half it's roster size.

Really hoping the next game walks back on Ult's changes.

I was thinking the recovery could work for that, with a burst of speed upward immediately after the player presses the button and tills up. If glide was still around, well, I did not think of this before your post, but I think it could have worked for both.

Also, any final smash ideas for potential characters if they join?

Spyro: Convexity (Aether) element or Power Orb Clash
Crash Bandicoot: Mojo Beatdown or Aku Aku
Shantae: Half Genie Hero
Doom Slayer: BFG 9000
Rayman: Dreams Unite or Rabbids Madness.
Toad: Warp Whistle: Toad plays on a flute to summon a massive tornado that sweeps up and launches any opponent it touches.

King Boo: Portrification: King Boo summons a giant picture frame, sucking in foes and trapping them in the painting. After 5 seconds, King Boo will attack the painting with a blast of purple lightning from his crown, launching the foes or instantly KOing them if they’re above 100% damage.

Dixie Kong: Kong POW: Dixie Kong first bumps with Kiddy Kong, creating a stage-wide shockwave that launches opponents.

Skull Kid: Final Hour: Skull Kid screams loudly at the sky, summoning the Moon to crash down onto the stage.

Bandana Dee: Megaton Punch: Bandana Dee readies himself, and three reticules will appear one after the other. If the button is pressed when the reticules overlap Bandana Dee, he will punch the ground to launch everyone touching the ground with massive vertical knockback, like a POW Block on overdrive.

Tom Nook: Dream Invoice: It starts out the same as Villager's Final Smash, but he doesn't trap the opponent inside. Once the house is complete, he shows them the (very expensive) bill, launching the foe from the sheer force of debt they suddenly find themselves in. Perhaps as an aesthetic bonus, the currency changes depending on who he's fighting? (Bells normally, Coins for Mario characters, Rupees for Zelda characters, Zenny for any Capcom characters, etc.)

Chibi-Robo: Giga Robo: Giga Robo stomps across the stage, burying does it steps on and launching everyone else.

Takamaru: Inazuma Lightning: Takamaru raises his sword, causing lightning to strike three times: once to his left, once to his right, and once on his sword, sending bolts out horizontally on either side of him.

Octoling: Pick one! You could give them Killer Wail, or Tenta Missiles (think Snake's Covering Fire but it covers them in ink), or the MC Princess Cannon (the finale of Octo Expansion).

Jibanyan: Terror Time: Two Leadoni drag the opponent away to Terror Time, where the massive red oni Gargaros strikes them down with his club.

Bomberman: Revenge Cart: Bomberman hops onto a Revenge Cart and rains bombs down on everyone.

If Dragon Quest got another character who would it be? Slime?
I would assume Slime since it's more ubiquitous than a specific party member and is a mascot for the series tbh.

I mean I figure it has to have a lot of merit as an option in Sakurai's eyes if he was planning on Slime as a Plan B for Hero not happening.

I mean Beam's rod/wand/whatever you call it isn't really a polearm, though. Kirby holds it in his hand at one end and beams come out of the orb, so if anything, the shape of it is more like a microphone.
Alright, maybe polearm is an overstatement in its usual form, but they can mess with the ratio a bit. Here's a beam Kirby from clash, for example.

What if Hero.....2?
DQ9 Hero. Plays exactly the same, except up-b is them flying up with their wings.

I'd be in agreement generally. That being said, I think some parasol moves would be helpful as future proofing- getting his niche beyond being the first spearman(speardee?) in Smash. Besides, using umbrellas and parasols as weapons is just cool.

Good luck with that. I’m 40 and I’m still here lol.
37 year old here, and I am not ashamed of still speculating about Smash.
Don't take it the wrong way but how do you guys attached to this series for so long? Especially something "family-friendly" as this series.

You never felt burnout or you guys have outgrown the series? Just weird to believe to hitting middle-ages with backpains, aging bones and all other experiences and responsibilities life will throw at ya and still have as crude as Smash on the mind.

Nothing necessarily wrong with it but just feels odd. People usually change overtime. Most 30-40 year old are indifferent, dismissive or leave it and such nerdu hobbies behind due to responsibilities like kids, retirement or something

Yeah, it’s hard to wrap my head around the age differences sometimes. So many of the games I’m nostalgic for from when I was younger were released over a decade before some here were even born. I think the biggest example is RARE and their previous history with Nintendo. Unless you’re a dinosaur like me, you probably won’t have any memory of RARE’s games on Nintendo. It goes beyond that to anything that was popular on the NES and SNES that isn’t really still relevant now. I feel like I was born at a convenient time for gaming (and just gaming) that I got to experience every era of Nintendo while it was new.
As least you were lucky enough to be born and experience the Golden Age of Gaming and not the trash heap it is now.

Being "family-friendly" doesn't automatically mean that only babies are allowed to like it, y'know. Smash is fun for all ages.

I thought the whole stigma of "this is only for kids" was a thing of the past but it seems I might have been wrong.

Ey, it's your age crowd that prevail that stigma.

Personally, it isn't age but the length. How do you stick with certain series for that long with no fatigue or burn-out? Especially when much has changed

I've been with Smash for almost 11 years and it feels like an obsession. Dedication!

That's the neat thing.

You dont.

It ebs and flows, sometimes people just dont touch something for years until one day they get that itch to play it again and they get reminded of how much they love the thing.

Believe it or not, my tastes haven’t really changed as I got older. I still love the TMNT and Nintendo. I still watch annime and collect action figures. I never really got into the typical “mature” games like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, or Madden. I do have nostalgia for the late 80’s and early 90’s attitude, which might be where my preferences come from. I’ve actually been falling more into nostalgia as I try to give my mind a break from all the stress of everything going on in the world.

My friend who I grew up with does have an anti-Nintendo bias and views their games as “kiddie”. I never really understood that. To me, a good game is a good game and Nintendo’s consoles have a lot more that appeal to me than the other consoles.

As far as the length, I’ve been a huge Smash fan since the beginning but I haven’t really been a part of active speculation until Ultimate. I created my account here in 2009 to share mods I made for Brawl back in the day. My brother and I were really into the modding scene at the time and I had a great time talking with the modding community and made some great online friends at the time, though I haven’t had contact with them since we all stopped modding.

Growing up, your favorite things you enjoy as a kid are never gone. More like supressed to live life among other in public.
We faced against Tabuu; Had inner turmoil
And both good and bad for our own thoughts flourish. Change isn't pretty and easy, but it is what made us who we are. The future is always uncertain until one has taken their last breath in life.

As an older player myself, gaming in many ways is easier now to partake in than it was even 15 years ago. Loads of genres are being embraced again, colorful aesthetics can be found in numerous titles, and stuff like Steam on top of modern ports/remakes allows so many titles that were one out of reach to be accessible. Mainstream gaming is thankfully long out of its edgy teenager phase and is allowing itself to be many things to many fans.

I do like more “mature” styles a lot too. Personally, I never cared for the washed out gray and brown ultra realistic style that was a big thing for years but I like the more stylish comic book inspired designs. Things like Darksiders, WarCraft, League of Legends, Soul Reaver, and classic Battletoads. None of those are what people would typically consider adult gritty realistic designs but they’re not really cartoony or “kiddie” either.
