Gaming is ever evolving to cater to both old and new audiences like how other entertainment are in the world. Honestly, I'm still surprised on how gaming in the 90s and early 2000s was able to get away with so much innuendos and fear for kid games. (Kirby, Banjo and Kazooie, Earthbound, etc)
Though, sometimes development does need to take a step back into the past due to losing sight. By new people adding their ideas to the mix, it can eventually lose the original favor if not handled correctly. A phoenix dies, only to reborn from the ashes anew.
