Cool tourney. Besides the obvious complaints about prizes and rules, the UNM anime club is sweet.
You know what I noticed this tournament though: I felt that the gap of skill in BRAWL between those who are active in smashboards and those who are noobs seems to be widening. I'm pretty sure it wasn't just me, most of us seemed to be 4-6 stocking the whole match (I finished 2 6-stock sets
). It could be just our growing smarts, but personally, we are getting more intelligent with our characters and are being more and more capable of reacting to every given situation with the correct way in BRAWL. THE METAGAME IS SLOWLY ADVANCING!!!!
Another thing: I realized Wraith is gone. Where'd he go? I know Wraith was at the last tournament by the Anime Club.
I'll do brief shoutouts (i'll start using the atpersign):
@Sinz: Way to win 1st place in "Missing tournaments tournament" The Twinz got 2nd.
@Davis: Nice Ike ditto. It was only slightly epic. You should pretend that everytime you go to a tournament, it is AZ OneTwoStep, just ignore the existence of a forward, a dannykat, a sk92, a diesuperfly, etc. Uber red tie + suit. But to be purely honest, you deserve the award IN ALL OF THE SOUTHWEST REGION of "Best Commentary/Best Shoutcasting/Best support when your friend is losing a match he knows he can win/etc." My favorite phrase from you in the tournament was "That lucario doesn't know what he's doing standing silly on the bottom fin of corneria..." I couldn't stop cracking up.
@Steven: thanks for the ride and taking casey's shirt for me. It's too much crap to handle. Plus you finally took the SC4 and your melee case back. Congratulations on your achievement. I barely watched any matches of you in the tournament, but I just really hope to god that you don't main marth. He will always be a hateable ***got in everyone's mind. Even if the future in SSB4 where marth is bottom tier because he has no range, no speed, no ridiculous grab range, no spike, no tippers, no chaingrabs, and no stupid comboable moves like fair, HE WILL STILL BE HOMO due to his incessant stroking of hair during free time and overall apperance with tiara.
@Erich: Well I finally learned which stage is my favorite counterpick. For some reason I'll say it was you who unconsciously caused me to pick it up, so thanks. I'll find other stages for you to fear though, like Green Greens, Rainbow Cruise, Onett, etc. Decent match, though anything I say about the second set will be considered a john. It's funny how you knocked me out the tournament BOTH times.
@Paul: I blame you for the one thing in this tournament. Whenever I'm losing a match, I'll say to myself "Play smart." However, during my close matches, you kept shouting "Be patient Neil" and now my new phrase to myself is "be patient." I liked my old one better. Being smart includes being patient. You've forcefully screwed with my mind somehow, changing the freaking phrase I say to myself mid-match. That's not cool buddy. Next tourney you better be shouting "Play smart Neil." Thanks for the support though.
@Zman: Where was Denial aka Daniel? I was in the mood to stuff my sword up pit's behind. Well anyways, I didn't really see any matches of yours, but hopefully you're getting advice from everett about how to play GaW and Luigi. I know for a fact there's at least 3 fantastic luigis I saw at AZ12Step, one of which three stocked me during pool play. Get a haircut by the way, it'll net you more respect.
@Nolan: Thanks for the smashfest, also awesome job for wearing the pokemon sweater. as I said, it got you more attention over time (you were a judge). If I were to give you advice on your pikachu, i'd say the same thing davis said, and that's just to keep in mind other moves and other ways to approach. Remember, its a really bad thing when an opponent knows your playstyle and therefore knows what you may do next. I even described what you would do based on your opponents damage.
@Walker: I have to say one thing, and I'm sorry if I sound like a total inconsiderate jerk. You are WAY TOO hung up on match ups. It's a good thing to follow, but what you really should follow is simply your character's strengths and weaknesses and your opponent's instead of the match up as a whole. If you focus on the big picture, you may lose sight of what you should do during a given situation. If you focus on strengths and weaknesses, you can focus on when you should chase, when you shouldn't, etc. I think you are much like who Meow is describing: a guy I want to train but he thinks he's already good. Much much like cameron.
@Matt: you aren't national champion. BS.
Sorry if I missed anyone. *HAVE A GOOD TIME*
