how can people play with tap-jump ... well , my jump is on L , thats much better xD
Various top players do and others don't. It's about what works for you, neither is truly 'better' unless in some situations where it kinda evens out as one balances out the other in some areas.

I play with tap jump on, but I really shouldn't, as it becomes a habit and I can't short hop as well as I usually would be able to. Fast falling and shorthopping seems a lot harder when I'm using tap jump as opposed to using an actual button, but who knows, maybe I could use both when I need one or the other

That's a matter of getting used to the controller. :) I can SH and FF fine with TJ on but it did take me a while to get it all down-pat.

Tap jump is required for some techs, such as footstall cancelling ( you know when you jump on someones head and then instantly DJ, Airdodge then Zair)

for some reason you can't do it with pressing X twice quickly or using X and L as jump. not sure why, maybe it's to do with buffering

so yeah i wish i could use TJ but it makes it almost impossible to recover w/o using up a jump

yeah , some-stuff is realy hard with TJ , but for some-stuff it's better to have TJ on , because They're complicated without TJ , like marf's up-b ooS , you need a jump-input , tilting up the shield and stuff , so pressing b + Y/X with your thumb as a fast ooS option at the same time can be difficult ... however , if you have a jump on L or R , you can just ooS a up-b without TJ , so it's complicated , but that's only an example , because ooS Up-b is importend for a marf) ... wasn't that serious of me , because I'm just to dump for TJ xD , of course it's not like useless

I'm picking up Ness, I've been having a blast with the EarthBound characters lately.

Funny question but, how does one approach properly with Ness? I main Marth/Ike so I'm used to decent-to-great approaches. Just wondering how many options Ness has, if any.

I always approach with SH -> F-air. It's really useful. xP

Be careful with it though and space it properly as it can still be punished, especially with a grab. Also feel free to mix things up. Ness has a great OoS option (being Nair) and you can space Fair so that you're playing a little more defensively if you need to. :)

Yeah a lot of the time people will try to shield the full force of your fair while on the ground and then follow up with a grab, so the important thing to do there is not only vary your styles a little but also retreat the fair so for characters with small/medium grab ranges, they won't be able to hit you with the grab because you'll land a little farther away even if you get less fair hits in

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll toy around with his Fair a little more and get a feel for his Hitboxes.

if you approach with fair , the range of it is ... just ... let's say "not that good" ... it's way better for deffensive options , spamming fairs as a approach is just terribad ... try to mix-up your aerials ... your nair is a awesome ooS options , it can even kill near edges at some percentages ... fair is just awesome , it outranges like everything (even marf xD) ... dair is his most underrated aerial , if the animation is done (or hasn't started) and you're landing , you don't have any ending lag or landing lag ... fastfalled and out of a double jump (if timed correctly , which isn't realy hard) , it's difficult to punish ... speacking of double jumps ... rising fairs and fastfalled fairs can be awesome , and some bairs and uairs to kill everything ... you can use 2 aerials in one short-hop , so , someone plans to punish your landing lag out of an ... let's say shorthop-bair ... just use a nair , before you land , it'll just hit them , shourt-hop double aerial stuff is just awesome ... a bit offtopic now xD ... ok , for approaching stuff , your dashgrab is awesome , it has one of the best dashgrab ranges , also , Ness has the fastest grabs overall ... and his throws are awesome dthrow to make some damage , and follow up with stuff , bthrow is the best throw to kille somebody in the entire game ... at early % fthrow has decent knockback (like against olimar , at 0% , fthrow can be used to throw him offstage , and this could be his stock , if you gimp him , since oli is gimpable and stuff ... only an example) ... and uthrow , if you wanna juggle a enemy with some uairs and/or pkt1 ... also pkt1 juggling is just awesome , can make so many percentages ... wait offtopic again xD ... ness is more like , you have to play him a bit defensively to not get grabbed (short-hop -> fair , and moving back by this is just godlike for defensive spacing , so you can jump out of it because ness can do 2 aerials , so he can use one aerial and jump etc.) , because you're screwed , if you're grabbed (if you used to be a marf-player , you should know about that xD)

Ness' Bair is the stuff of legend. It's like Falcon's knee except it's a Bair not a Fair and it's got a decent hitbox and the sweetspot last more than 1 frame.

The satisfaction of blasting people with 2 fairs in a row is too much for me, and when I land that sweet bair snipe on someone I'm juggling it feels amazing

I've hit people with 3 and occasionally even 4 Fairs in a row before, usually after grab, pummeling and Dthrowing. Oh man that combo is amazing... <3

For some reason I can follow F air to U tilt like every dam time >_>
people are SDI/DI-ing towards you like spuds

fair > utilt should not work unless your opponent has let go of his controller or is spamming his c-stick towards you as you approach

it never works for me :(

I've never been able to get in a situation where I can fair to utilt, I don't really see how that would work most of the time unless they're just sitting there waiting for you to smack them. It isn't because my opponents are purposely trying to DI away knowing that it's coming, but I've just never had the opportunity. Besides, I don't use tilts much, and I use f-tilt far more than the other ones

the ftilt is like ness's worst move (ftilt and dsmash) ... and the utilt has a sexy range , most don't know about it ... and its a fast jungling option atthe beginning ... well utilt can be useless ... dmsash and ftilt to but ... utilt is just better

All you need is to know how to use each move efficiently. Done wrong, any move will not work as planned (advancing fair, fully charging a PK Flash on the ground which ends up being cancelled...) ;)

in most situations , nair is just a better option than ftilt , but it can be usefull ... dtilt (1-2 times ) before jab-strings can be more damage etc. ... or uncharged pk-flash ... snake is standing an a platfrom above me (bf) uncharged pkflash , he shields , falls down -> jab-lock -> fsmash stock ... every move have some awesome moments ... some more , some less

Dtilt is awesome in right situations such as ledge pressure for people with poor recoveries. For example Falco shielding at the ledge. You should wanna fair him of the ledge and start dtilting like crazy. It will connect and he cant grab the ledge. Many players waste their jump here and basically die or get like 100% trying to SDI on stage. If they are smart enough to recover, its still good and pretty much safe damage and good position and stage control. Doesnt work on MK at all! If they are close enought to the ledge you can immediately start dtilting him or his shield, its almost impossible to punish without like Marths or MKs Up B OoS.

Ftilt usually comes handy at killing when you have hard time landing a grab or uair/bair. Or if they are stale. Nice suprise factor because your opponent should know your MAIN kill moves. Combos from landing fair if opponents feet get off the ground while fairing, but jab seems to be more reliable here.

Utilt is crazy anti-air move. Doesnt look like it but beats many moves, especially landing ones and keeps the juggle up. Combos from landing uair and fair very well. Fast hitbox to launch immediately after landing (with airdodge) too.

The two moves with least uses are PK Flash and PSI Magnet, IMO. Only in few MUs they come in handy.

PK Flash (normally uncharged) is basically your umbrella from D-airs that would be too risky to trade hits with our U-air. I actually got a PK Flash kill when my friend was Toon Link and tried to D-air me. The timing was so intense though xD

My friend plays Link and TL and this is exactly what I was thinking I should do every time he tries to dair me. I haven't gotten a chance to try it out, but I figured that it would work.

Tink: you can't charge your pk-flash that well , because tinks dair is just fast ... if you hit him (and that should be very hard on purpose) , he get's like 10% and like no knockback , if he hits you , you get damage (Damage when fresh: Spike (initial) hitbox, 16%. Lingering hitbox, 13%. Damage after pogo, 8% copy and paste xD) ... you'll get 13%-24% ... so just more % than your rare-hitting-pk-flash in this situation ... yeah , if you randomly charge your pk-flash , a tink could dair into it , but that shouldn't be the a reason to randomly charge pk-flash against tink xD

against link .... should also be more damage than 10% , if he hit's you , and knockback-stuff , that can kill you ... very risky , if you hit , you get like 10% yeah , that'll win the match , but he can deal more damage against you and even kill you , links dair isn't as fast as tink's , but links dair is also not that slow , so not the best option too xD ...

Well I kind of had to read that D-air so the PK Flash was charged a bit more and did like 18%, though at times if you feel he's gonna D-air, just move away and then punish him.
