Finally got to watch the episode. Not amazing but not horrible. I feel like they are making rarity more dramatic than she was in the first season which makes me like here a little less. This being the first episode with no twilight and someone else writing a letter was cool. I love applebloom more now.

As far as Ajay's parents, I had a fanfic idea where her parents were world renowned apple researchers and that's why they are never home and why everyone else has to take care of sweet apple acres. That would be a lot better than just "they're dead". I wish I weren't to lazy to write. *shrugs*

Also, new episode wasn't that great imo. But it did make me like Applebloom a whole lot more. She's definitely my favorite CMC now.

I think they just shear them for the wool. This way, the sheep are nice and cool in the summer, and the ponies get wool, which we know they use for clothes.

I don't really see a problem with this. Twilight's inescapable role as the Greek chorus in S1 severely limited the writers' options when conceptualizing new episodes. They had to waste time shoehorning Twilight into every episode. Now they have a more dynamic set of tools for creating new episodes.
