Ewww... Maybe I'm weird, but I hate having food left over on my hands. I mean, when I'm eating or dishwashing, then sure, but after that...

Why would you FLUDD your wii?
What happened was that it was raining heavily one day and it got into my basement (where my video game consoles are). My PS2 and Gamecube (I gave that to my cousins but they never use it) were fine because they were above the water, but the N64 wasn't and it sucks now cuz I now have to buy N64 games I liked off wii shop

Guys, I have bad news, and good news.

The bad news is I'm dropping Mario.

The good news is it is only temporary. But currently, I'm getting extremely frustrated with Mario's extremely high learning curve. I just don't have the stamina left to space properly with him, nor am I currently able to keep up the sick mindgames and strategies with him. I think my time will be much better spent learning different characters, and increasing my practical knowledge of matchups.

And don't worry, I'll still be around to help whenever you guys need a tip. My goal is still to get a good tournament placing with Mario. The day we prove Mario is mid tier is the day I can rest easy about this game.

Sorry to hear that A2, but hopefully it'll make your Mario even better!

Guys, I'd like to apologize for my results! We had a 13 man tournament, and I got 0-2'd in brackets, so I got no points for Mario. But I know I'm still improving/stepping it up for you guys! I can only keep improving from here, and I still feel really good about my Mario :)!

Sometimes switching characters is the only thing that makes coming back to the character afterwards worthwhile, if that made sense.

whoooa A2...never thought YOU would drop mario...:(
cuz you were one of the guys who really spend much time in his metagame and the one who argues with the users from other boards in the MU discussion...
but it's ok^^ i understand why you drop him and maybe it just improve your brawl gameplay^^
so, who d'you think you will main nao?
and will you take mario as your main back or just as a close second?

I just need time to get my game straight. If I go to any tournament before that time is up, I'm probably going with G&W, Luigi, and ROB, who are also characters who I think need more representation. In low tiers, I might try Bowser and Ganondorf.

In friendlies, I'm considering using Random. I think the best thing I can do right now is try new things and relearn how to adapt in new situations. Hell, I think I might just main Metaknight strictly for friendlies. He's a character that everyone needs to know how he works anyway, and I think it would do me some good to relax with the pleasures that come with using a broken character.

And don't worry, as I said, this is only temporary. Mario will always be the one character I believe deserves more recognition than anyone else, but currently, I am appalled at my inability to properly apply all the knowledge I have accumulated about this one character.

I should say though, it is my honest opinion that Mario BY FAR is one of the toughest characters in this game to play at his top level. He has options, but most of them are situational, and you need really good reaction time and tech skill to use all of his options correctly. It's ironic that I would pick Mario as my main character when I have both rather bad tech skill and reaction time. However when I compare him to other characters, I just am astounded by the depth of his options. And Mario DOES have the most epic competitively viable attack in the game with his F-smash, and there is nothing more satisfying than legitimately mindgaming the **** out of your opponent with this attack and killing them with a fiery explosion.

When I start telling myself that Mario is such a difficult character to learn at a top level, it starts making much more sense why we have so few players who can place well with him. Mario's placement on the tier list as far as I'm concerned is held back more by his representation as opposed to his actual ability and matchup ratios. He has the tools to win under a skilled player in most matchups, and if he was just more powerful, he could easily be a high tier threat like we see in BBrawl (where I find he's a TOP tier threat no less).

Anyhow, don't be like me and burn yourself out over how tricky Mario is. Make sure you have fun while playing this game.

To be honest i've spent a good 60+ hours in training mode learning to control mario and trying to learn to get fast. After i lost to tc1 for the first time like a year ago he told me i needed to get faster and i would get better and i don't mean just inputing buttons faster,i mean being able to have faster reactions and being able to think faster, although i know alot of you will disagree with me i think being able to play mario "fast" is very important but, not more important than playing smart.this isn't melee lol.

You know I agree with you Vato. The way you put it is exactly the way I try to play Mario; even while camping.

Actually MOVING Mario quickly is just a by-product of that playstyle.

Also does instinct come into play in matches? Cause every time I'm trying to approach I always put a fireball in front of me, It's like I don't even think while doing it.

Oh yeah and I'm dropping Mario for a week or two for Fox

Fox is a stupid character in this game. He has very little that can be used on a defensive opponent safely, so his entire strategy is run away until you make a mistake. He's a lot like Sonic, except he uses a laser, gets shieldgrabbed more whenever he attacks, and is better at randomly scoring the KO when you make that one mistake.

Fox at least is good in teams, where his high KO power is more abuseable.

Found one more extremely situational combo.

Tested on Ike. At like 40 percent, if you hit him while approaching towards him with B-air, you can combo into stutter step F-smash.

Combo does like 30 damage, and yes, it racks the combo counter in training mode.

Ike can do nothing in that 20ish frame window between the Bear and Fsmash?

The hit doesn't put him in a tumble state, so he has full hitstun during that time and will eat the combo if you time it right.

Actually I made one more discovery. There is now a legit reason to COMPLETELY stale your B-air, because you can get this combo to work at kill percents if it's completely stale.
