I don't know. I think the first one works better. The number of entrants is a major factor, yes, but it also depends on who you beat. You could come across an easy bracket and place higher than you normally should have. That would produce too much of an outlier if we use the second formula, but it seems more balanced in the first formula.

When you guys are talking about "first" and "second" are you counting the one in the OP or just the ones in that post?

Same.

And it's impossible to incorporate skill level of your opponents into this sort of system: too subjective. So why even try?

Well, the second formula is too extreme. I think the first one is good in that it boosts people who place high in large tournaments without giving them too many points in case they have an easy bracket.

Having an easy bracket is a part of gathering lots of tournament results: it happens, but naturally balances itself out with more difficult brackets for that character as you gather more data.

Darn it, he figured me out! D:

But really, I think the first formula is more balanced. Gives major boost for good placings at big tournaments while not giving such a huge boost to people with easy brackets.

If Ike moves to mid-tier, then nothing should happen.
Sonic's in mid-tier.

That characters that are in the lowest of the mid tier are still part of the project. If Ike somehow moves above that he's out of the project.

edit: Gonna update this tonight.

Added Smash con Queso and 3 other tournaments that I had posted the links here but then lost them when I accidentally changed the page. They're the tournaments posted in the CRL.

Hobo 28 results are up. The full results can be found here:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=288537

for low-tier highlights:

5th: Espy (Sonic)
13th: YOSH (Yoshi)
17th: Poltergust (Yoshi)
17th: Bored (Ike)
17th: Xyro (Samus)
25th: Deva (Link)
25th: Tesh (Sonic)
25th: Brettster (Ike)
33rd: OTL (Link)
33rd: ALSM (Link)
33rd: Zigsta (Bowser)
49th: Sigma (Ike)
49th: Tosm (Ike)
49th: Tallman (Lucas)
49th: Slush (Yoshi)

All of that is out of 64 people. There are low-tier results too, but I don't think you want those (however, they're on the results thread i linked if you do want them).

I didn't go all Lucas at HOBO 28, I went ROB and Pikachu in a match, and Lucas in the other. But I ended up losing everything so does it really matter?

Nope, it doesn't matter. For two reasons: You lost the matches with those characters, and you got last place, which earns 0 points.

Just to clarify in the future, if you do use high tier characters but lose ALL matches with them and yet win matches with Lucas, you can submit your result as if you only played Lucas. Win 1 match with a high tier though and you can't.

Ryo (Ike) got 4th out of 49
Didn't find ruleset anywhere.

I have a lot of results, but am too lazy to go find em all.

"Random Wolf" is me. I got 4th/16.
I'm not going to add that unless you give me the entry fee and a link to the ruleset.

Added:
Hall of Gaming #1
Phoenix Brawl 4
Lost 7
Robocop

Waiting for MLG DC character listings before I update the thread.

The people that "split" only split the MONEY. We DID play out the final matches so the players that have 1st by their names EARNED first
