Oh, those days. When I first came here, Brawl was in its infancy. Snake was the best character in the game, Pit's recovery was broken, Zelda was better than Sheik. Soon enough, MK rose up. But 09'ers, you have not faced anything remotely like the stigma attached to being an 08'er. I never directly dealt with it because I never posted anything dumb. I didn't even post for a while, and when I started, it was in generic GBD threads. But I saw a LOT of anti-08 sentiment, and agreed with a lot of it. I knew I didn't know anything. Then again, I'm probably 5-6 years older than the median age here.
I used to lurk the Marth boards pretty regularly. I remember watching them develop. Emblem Lord and his insane amount of knowledge, the rapid-fire match-up discussions (first board to finish), and the much stricter attitude towards idiocy than elsewhere.
I remember when there were original suggestions being made in the SSB4 thread. I remember MYM 2; back then, they only came up with movesets, not stats, Kirby hats, subspace stories, and Snake codecs. I remember the day IDC was discovered, and doop walking too. There was no Smash Workshop. I think they still counted posts made in User Blogs, but that might be my imagination. I remember the releases for all 3 tier lists.
I've seen the User Blogs room grow from a dusty, distant corner into a hub of activity. I remember having heated, hilarious discussions on multiple manliness tier lists. Also, a shout-out to Meta Mindgame Spam is needed. That was the first thing here that I actively contributed to, before the Zelda Thread really got moving. Speaking of which, I remember the Zelda Thread from when it was only about Ocarina of Time.
Other events worth remembering from my time here so far: April 1 2009. The very essence of epic. E3 '09 in the Light House was a blast, especially discussing the Nintendo stuff like NSMBW, SMG2, and Other M. Getting the Zelda Room. KOTH. The incessant Ban MK debates that seemed to settle down, only to be reignited again later. At least they seem to be dying out again. Brawl vs Melee was similarly idiotic.
It's pretty impressive how much has happened just in the 17 months since I've been around on here.
