Phoenix Wright (Genre: VN)

FA585E41-11D8-4AD5-A5A1-5A12071D6047.jpeg

The visual novel genre has been growing in popularity recently, so why not add a fighter from the most iconic game in the genre? Phoenix Wright’s is the protagonist of the Ace Attorney series of games by Capcom. Phoenix Wright is a lawyer who defends his clients to the very end. He is accompanied by his assistant Maya, a spirit medium in training. (I imagine she could help out with certain attacks) Phoenix Wright is no stranger to fighting, as he is a playable character in Marvel vs Capcom 3, which is one of the top 8 Marvel vs Capcom games ;). Anyway, he would just be really neat.

Monokuma (Danganronpa)

Monokuma is the mascot of the Danganronpa Franchise as well as the main antagonist

Monokuma has a lot of potential from the games he's been in, there are several variations and actions he does that could affect this

Danganronpa is also quite popular online
I've changed my submission from Estelle to Monokuma

Challenger Pack 15: Reimu (very off topic but im almost 100% certain she'll be the final fighter, just saying)
ThReimu.png

Reimu Hakurei is a popular indie character from the Touhou Project who is even more popular in Japan. Touhou is a bullet hell/danmaku/shmup game, which doesn't have a rep in any place yet in Smash (unless you count that credits minigame). Going back to popularity, Touhou absolutely STOMPS Shovel Knight and Shantae as of 2019. Touhou music is absolutely phenomenal; with over 600 amazing tracks to choose from, I doubt it would be a struggle to pick some great songs. Some really good ones, in my opinion, are Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly ~ Ancients, Idolatrize World, and Drunk as I Like.

Reimu would be a floaty character who uses LOTS of projectiles, some spell cards, and a Yin Yang orb. She would also fight pretty similarly to the official fighting games she's been in.

Job #21: Giovanni (Pokémon)
ED65A2FF-DC8B-4947-9075-C04A12AA7489.png

Giovanni is the leader of the criminal organization known as Team Rocket (and later Team Rainbow Rocket). Team Rocket is a powerful underground organization dedicated to capturing powerful and rare Pokémon to take over the world, by any means necessary. Besides being the boss of one of the greatest criminal empires of the Pokémon universe, he is also the Gym Leader of Viridian City’s Gym in the Kanto Region.

There are a variety of different ways Giovanni could fight. Giovanni could be another Pokémon trainer type character. Giovanni mainly focuses on ground type Pokémon. He could any one of his Pokémon: Rhyhorn, Dugtrio, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Rhydon, and Persian. He could also use members of Team Rocket or Rainbow Rocket to help him during the battle.

Giovanni could finally give Pokémon an actual villain. He could represent all the evil organizations throughout the years of Pokémon games. Giovanni continues to be relevant and popular in the Pokémon universe. He has continued to make many appearances in the main series games, spin-offs, the anime, etc. Giovanni could finally give Pokémon some human spirits in smash. He could even give the Pokémon Sun & Moon games a stage. Last but not least, he has been shirtless before.

My character is: Ring Fit Trainee.

they would actually be playable with the ring con (rotate a direction and walk or run to walk or run, squeeze is a, pull is b, hold it up for up/jump, down for duck.). And yes, that is optional. Squeeze or pull while moving the ring con into position at differing speeds for smashes/tilts.

they’d have their basic ring shot A attack (if you play with the ring con, the same squeeze that did a yellow shot in the game will net an instant smash attack, which will be the yellow-open-door-in a hit shot). And their b moves would represent the different exercises from ring fit adventure, a yoga move to heal, a strength attack special (probably bow pull for the forward, hits multiple enemies and a different one for the neutral) and some cardio or stretch for the up b.

Quote (Cave Story)

I have an entire Google Doc outlining everything Quote could bring to the table in both gameplay and accompanying content, so feel free to look at that for more in-depth ideas.

How would he work?

He'd be a zoner with potential for multiple unique projectile moves (options include, but are not limited to, a bouncing fireball, triple missiles, bubbles that envelop him, a wave that pierces through terrain, a throwable sword, and a chargeable laser). He could also potentially use disjointed melee attacks via the aforementioned sword.

He could also have an "experience bar" mechanic wherein landing attacks (or maybe collecting crystals he makes enemies drop?) causes him to fill the bar and go from Lv. 1 to Lv. 3, with his ranged attacks growing more powerful at higher levels; their behavior could even change slightly in certain cases. However, receiving damage would cause him to lose experience and potentially level down.

Why him?

I believe Quote is worthy of addition to Super Smash Bros. due to Cave Story’s significance in the sphere of indie games. It is largely considered “the quintessential indie game,” being the earliest indie game to achieve widespread acclaim (with the possible exception of Touhou, though that does not appear to have been a large influence on many games outside of those directly based on the series). While Minecraft has already taken the honor of being the first indie game in Smash (it may not be considered “indie” nowadays, but it certainly qualified for that description before being bought by Microsoft), Cave Story still seems to be a strong contender from a historical standpoint.

In addition to Cave Story’s historical significance, the game has had a decent history with Nintendo. The very first commercial version of the game was the WiiWare port, with Nintendo consoles playing host to four later versions (DSi, Cave Story 3D, 3DS eShop, and Nintendo Switch). In fact, Nintendo systems have been the only full video game consoles (as in, not multipurpose computers) to see official Cave Story ports.

Also, the game's music is really good (original, remastered; there's other official versions too) and there's an easy alternate skin in deuteragonist Curly Brace.

Here are the results of the Job #21 voting:
Ashley & Red 6
Doomguy 6
Monokuma 5
Phoenix Wright 12
Reimu 4
Giovanni 5
Bandana Dee 6
Ring Fit Trainee 1
Quote 3

Meaning Phoenix Wright will be our challenger pack 15 character! Now for the first job of this pack, we’ll decide his stage:

Job #22: Submit a Stage for Phoenix Wright
Submit whatever stage you think should be added for Phoenix Wright. Please submit the stage idea and the layout.

Now I know a lot of people are probably going to want to submit the courthouse, and that’s okay. If one person already submits it you can still submit another idea using the same stage idea, just make sure to have a different layout.

Job #22: The Courtroom
5d2a95d5f8c5f56388be6ab02b8a570f.jpg
Game of Origin: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (2001)

Layout: The stage layout would be similar to how it looks in the AA series, but with some minor tweaks:
  • The witness stand would be in front of the Judge's chair, facing the camera
Certain characters also make a cameo as well:
  • The Judge (always in his chair)
  • Miles Edgeworth
  • Apollo Justice
  • Trucy Wright
  • Detective Gumshoe
  • Godot
  • Franziska von Karma
  • Athena Cykes
Gimmicks and Hazards:
  • A character in the witness stand will occasionally react with a "!" over their heads (5%, small knockback)
  • Sometimes the defense or prosecution will shout "Objection!", "Hold it!" or "Take that!", which knocks fighters back (15%, OK knockback)
  • When things get too chaotic (which would be rarely), the Judge will slam his gavel while shouting "Order!" or "Objection overruled!", shaking the stage (10%, OK knockback)
Battlefield/Ω Form: The Ω Form is based on the courtroom floor. The Battlefield form platforms are based on the witness stand.

4.) Pink Sweater Phoenix (Trials & Tribulations)
5.) Stylin' Street Apollo (Dual Destinies)
6.) Academy Uniform Clothes Athena (Dual Destinies)
7.) Hobo Phoenix (Apollo Justice)

Here’s my submission
His gimmick is similar to Turnabout mode from MvC3 but it's a little different. Basically, he can collect evidence using his down special and he has three evidence slots. The slots look like this, on the very bottom left corner above his super meter:

See the source image

There's a 50% chance that the evidence he grabs will be useless and if so, it'll look dark in his evidence slots. If so, he has to taunt to get rid of it. Up taunt gets rid of the first piece, side taunt gets rid of the second and down taunt gets rid of the third. The more evidence he has the stronger his attacks will be and some moves will change depending on how much evidence he has. After around 15 seconds, one piece the evidence he has will disappear and he'll have to use his down special again to get it back. However, if he has three pieces of evidence they'll all disappear at once instead of just one piece after the 15 seconds. The evidence resets after a KO.

Neutral Special: Take That!/Objection!

See the source image

In normal mode, he will point a finger forward and a large speech bubble that says "Take That!" will appear. If he has three pieces of legitimate evidence, the bubble will say "Objection!" and it will be much larger and do more damage. BTW, if Kirby copies him Kirby will just have the objection bubble

Side Special: Steel Samurai Maya Smelting

See the source image

Maya Fey appears and runs forward, doing a barrage of punches. If done in the air, she will fall and do the barrage while falling.

Up Special:
His up special from crusade but without the hold it bubble

Down Special: Investigate
Starts searching the ground and adds either a piece of legitimate or illegitimate evidence to his evidence slots

Final Smash: Cornered
Literally just his final smash from Crusade only with a few differences:

Obviously in HD to match the visual style of this game

The part of his speech where he says "no alibi, no justice, no dream, no hope" is taken out and so he just says "the one who actually committed the crime is you, it's time to pay for your crimes, take this"

It's an objection bubble that initiates the cinematic

I would submit an old one I made a couple years ago, but it only references the first game. Movesets need to represent what the character has done in the whole series and not just a single game imo. I have yet to play any other games in the series, so I'm not going to submit one.
