J4pu, there's actually been research on the phenomenon of when a gamer gets "in the zone." I know you've had it happen where everything else falls away, it's just you and the game, and everything suddenly seems easy.

It happens in other things too. I used to do competitive swimming, and right before big races, the pressure would focus me like no other, and all the pain I would normally feel was completely delayed until after the race. When called upon to do extraordinary things, I think this sort of thing can happen.

I don't think it's possible to enter the "In the zone" mode on command, because it requires there to be some pressure. I.E. the finals of a tourney, or a money match, or lots of people are watching.

Still, even though I don't have actual, true proof that it exists, I've experienced it many times and there have been too many reports of other gamers hitting "the zone" for it to be just me.

Loooooooooove it ^_^.

You're def like my fave Falco from the WC keep it up brother ^_^.

(I heard ur black? If so, BLACK POWAH!!! XD)
Black Falcos FTW. Add me to the list.

I think what all falcos need to do (Like SK92) is tap that offensive falco power. Falco can outcamp almost anybody, but instead, once you get the **** and good combos going, you can usually go pretty 0-death. Anticipating Sidesteps and Airdodges is key to keeping your opponent thinking "WTF".

Watch second stock of SK92 vs. Meep at BIO.

Wow, I hadn't seen that one before. Second stock he might as well have been Leonidas in Master Cheif's armor.

Well... That depends. Snakes usually like to airdodge (and sidestep too, but a bit less), since they don't have a quick aerial to punish an approaching opponent (hum, even though some snake users use Nair in this goal...).
But against characters that are better than you at close-combat, and that can punish you if you try to follow them in the air (i think to Luigi, Fox, Falco, MK, G&W...), you can't really be all aggressive.

I don't think we can pursue any one tactic against all opponents. One of Falco's greatest strengths is his ability to shine many different types of situations. We can camp like a MoFo against opponents that can beat us up close, and we have fantastic close combat against those we need it for.

Hey, SK, I've never heard anyone give me a good answer to this. How do you get the timing for the illusion cancel? All I've ever heard is "mash B", and I can get it, like, maybe half the time. I want to be able to pull it off more effectively and I can't seem to find the window to get it.

Same as anything else, the way to get good is to practice it (and whoever told you to mash buttons needs to not give advice). If you don't even understand when the window appears then maybe this will help.
When you do a phantasm you hear a "ping" sound
If you cancel the phamtasm immediately you do not hear the ping sound
If you cancel the phantasm (but not immediately) you will hear that ping sound
So depending on what distance of cancel length you want, you should try to time it with when the ping ound would occur.
Once you get it down a few times, muscle memory becomes so much better for cancelling it. I'm 3/3 for cancelling at the almost full length so I could get that extra distance and survive in tournaments (they were edge-hogging). Actually I think I'm 3/4 now but the one I failed was a friendly at a tourney, I cancelled it immediately on accident.

its all about the timing use a method to get the timing right i 100% mastered the timing of the extend cancel and i get the shorten cancel about 70% of the time. Its just all practice. Oh and everybody i am black haha.

Yeah there are characters you can't punish in the air, but Falco ground game is better than theirs (With the exception of MK). You can play defensively and punish them on landing with Dash attacks or dash shield grabs.

Anyway, I was wrong in calling Falco offensive, he's more of a punisher.

I was wondering if Online throws off your online game. Things like shortening the phantasm don't really work online. >_>

EDIT:Hai Chrome, we need to play. Do you have AIM?

And AiB was down last time I checked.

I have a couple of questions for you (and other Falcos in general, for that matter), if you don't mind answering:

1.) The pivot boost grab: I watch you do it with practically 100% accuracy every time. I've practiced it for around an hour or two and I can do it probably 25% of the time. Consequently I don't try it much in tournies. Is there any sort tips or tricks or is it basically just practice? Any good ways to practice it?

On the same note as this question, in that Yoshi's island fight you did something interesting that is basically the same effect of a PBG. You dthrow-> dash attack -> turn around grab. Does this work with 100% efficiency? It looked like there was time in there for him to dodge.

If that does work, can you do it on other people besides Snake?

2.) Planking: I've seen it happen to you (by the man himself!) and I was wondering a few things:

What do you think about it? And what can us Falco's do about it?

3.) This is more general, but I'll ask it anyway (instead of searching), what is a "reverse hyphen smash" ?

That's it for now.

BTW: Nice Falco, the stuff you do is sick.

The shl to rpb grab on the fox was too sexy. All of those rpb grabs are to sexy. I really need to take 5 mins to get the timing down, it seems you've got it down pat.

What are you thoughts on Falco's "pillar" when you dthrow, dair, fast fall and repeat?

I'll answer #3
Dash, Tap the oppositte direction you are running, roll the analog stick up and press A for an Upsmash
Hyphen smash=Upsmash while running
so reverse hyphen smash is just turning around right before you do the Upsmash
SK92 does it in one of the vids on getyourtournament.com it gives a very short slide i guess, nothing comparable to the boost smash

You just need to practice to get the Boost Pivot grab. If you can get it 25% of the time, then you know how and you just need to get more disciplined with it. Don't start off trying to get huge chains of them. Just go in training, give yourself someone easy like Link or Ganon, and do 1 dthrow, and get 1 pivot grab. Make sure you practice it in both directions. I used to only practice it from the right side of the enemy and I couldn't do it as well from the left!

Once you can get one off like that 99.9% of the time, try to chain two back to back. Then do 3 when you have that perfect.

It's not something you can get down in minutes, or even hours. It took me days of working on it to get it close to reliable.

That matchup is NOT 70-30 falco's favor. I swear its more like 50-50. Falco's reflector really doesn't stop diddy from being ******** with bananas.

SK92 vs. Ninjalink Money match plox. :p

That'd be black on black crime though lol.

edit: And Pivot grabbing took me like a month to master. Now I can do it online in any connection.

Falco does awesome with blaster spam and chaingrabs....until MK planks and ledge camps. Falco loses.

Well, the thing is : I don't understant why SK92 didn't plank too. He could have waited at the other side of the stage and SHDL spam. And ledge camp should be considered as stalling... ôO

Because Plank only Planked when he's at lower percent. So, if SK92 goes on the other side of the stage and spams lazers, Plank sits on the edge, nobody gets hit and time runs out and Plank wins on percent.

you gotta wait until the clock is at like 2 seconds then jump down and try and switch the percents up, because chances are if you try it when there is time remaining MK will gimp you and youll lose a stock or something like that.
Of course if the MK is really smart at planking he'll choose to fly down under the stage once the timer gets down to about 5 seconds and then you don't really have any options.

It's definitely NOT 70/30. A good Diddy will be able to get past the lasers and reflector, and get in your face. Diddy can combo Falco like a MoFo. That's not to say he has the advantage. Falco can hold his own up close, and has the better ranged game. I'd say 60/40 Falco's favor.
