Whatever

We've been drawing bigger and bigger crowds. Heck, Pound 4 got 352 people for Melee. There's no way we're "on our way out", it's the opposite if anything.

My ego...It's OVER 9000!
How long have people played starcraft for? Time doesn't matter when a game has timeless gameplay. Melee is one of those games. The fact that the Wii plays gamecube disks and that melee is extremely easy to find since it was such a great game that was in production for so long means that hardware is not an issue. Who cares what you bought a wii for. I bought a wii thinking there would be good games on it, but I was pretty much wrong and my wii plays more GC games than anything. I'm sure I'm not the only who feels this way lol.

Do people really care about the characters in Brawl much more?

I don't give a **** about diddy kong, olimar, metaknight, pit, lucario, or pokemon trainer. Snake and Sonic are from good games, but feel out of place due to them not even being nintendo characters. Ike's alright, but whatever, that's only because I'm an FE junky. 90% of the characters they've added are just as old as Link, Samus, and Mario. In many cases, they're from series that have origins predating many of the ones that were in melee.
Brawl+ and Project M would not be in development if people didn't care about the characters.

I wonder if people will actually start traveling for Brawl now.
Only if they're top 16 and getting sponsored lol. Otherwise you're paying 300 bucks to go accross the country to get ledgecamped for 8 minutes before being sent home. Hot **** Brawl is good ****.

It's not to be negative, but to point out that we waste alot of time and energy in the impossible task of attracting newcomers instead of strengthening what we have.
You really think that we're never going to get any new Melee players, ever?

LOOOL!

MLG virtually created players like KDJ, KillOR and PC. MLG pretty much made Killa famous with that MTV spotlight too lol

Man Dogy, I still remember that one halo fan girl, named Katie. She was awesome!!

No because brawl is like the worst fighting game the competitive play could ever have... even evo that were trying to like it had to drop it.
thats because of its completely anti-competetive nature. Trips? Inescapable CG's? No combos? Extremely floaty cast of characters?

What is good about it?

*Watches the infamous Pink Shinobi vs RockCrock game 3 Genesis match*
Oh yeah. 1 match on one stage between two very specific characters really makes a difference. PS and RockCrock happens way more frequently in Barlw. The only other matches I can think of from major tournaments that had that hard of camping were on Floats (which is banned now.)

The only good thing the game has its that its new and most of the people like it because of that they dont even care if its a bad game or not they dont even know whats a good fighting game. The only thing i would be worried if is this people start playing melee.

Can you let us know what you're opinion is? I'm genuinely curious, any input is good input
He's probably just taking the time right now to write a big-*** green essay for us all to spend the day reading tomorrow.

Brawl is way easier to get into and now it's where the money and fame is at. Why would newcomers want to get into a nine year old game that takes at least half a year of dedicated practice just to learn how to control your character?

Sorry, it was a reflex.

I know personally that when I'm looking for a game to pick up, playabillity is very important. If I wasn't a devout melee-*** right now I'd probably pick up brawl. MLG Circuit? Online (albeit bad) capability? Very popular game? SONIC!???!
So even though a lot of people who pick up the game or take it more seriously or leave melee for brawl probably wont make that top 16 deal, I know that just because the potential is there is really eye-catching.

Don't act like MLG isn't a big deal, because it is. It's the biggest deal for gamers. There are tons of Halo pubbers who worship the MLG Halo pros. MLG is great publicity for any game they accept - Brawl will definitely benefit from this.

So what does Melee need? A leader. Smashboards has so many threads like this... a bunch of QQ about how the better game gets shafted once again. So f*cking do something about it. Melee needs someone to step up, write a long essay about why Melee is the better game, and present it to someone worthwhile.

Hell, make a full f*ucking website if you want. Write a whole essay, embed videos at appropriate times (good combo vids, comebacks, audience screaming, etc), get quotes from the pros - SHOW why Melee is better. Make it professional. Get input from people, then send that **** to MLG. If MLG wants to ignore it, then send it to some other organization who has the funding to support our game.

You all claim you love this game, yet you just want to keep playing it. Eventually someone is going to have to put in a bit of work. The underdog always has to put in more work to win.

Example: Revision3 (who?)
Revision3 is some kind of internet tv website that most people haven't heard of. When the Conan vs. NBC stuff was going on, Revision3 (the underdog) wrote a **** creative letter to Conan, which was just about the best shot they could have had at getting him on their lineup.
http://revision3.com/blog/2010/01/18/an-open-letter-to-conan-obrien/
That letter didn't write itself. Granted, they didn't get Conan, but at the very least, other people did recognize them. Only good can come from a little hard work. So if you love this game and you feel like giving back to the community, make it happen.

Right
too many people missed Jam Stunna's point
tbh I believe every1 read Stunna's stuff they just don't believe it. And now they're theorycrafting on Melee future descent, which is false.

Edit: Spit wad welcome to the boards. C: I believe people have argued and tried to have Melee in MLG for two years and this happened. Smash left MLG but only Brawl came back. MLG does give a **** about Melee.

No, i'm really NOT going to do it. I've been talking about this kinda thing for years, and people just kept shoving it down my throat that "omg dogy you hate melee blah blah blah."

So na, I'm kool with whatever happens to melee. It'll either work or it won't.

I have a few ideas of how to actually help the community out (one of which DOES stem from MLG Brawl, and it's pretty **** likely to happen), but I'm not going to throw a huge wall of text out.

*points to your second paragraph*
I mean, you guys already get the idea being one of my "3 pools of new players" concept.

1) New players.
2) Players from other communities (namely fighting games).
3) Brawl players specifically.

What about those Scar melee vs brawl (something along these lines) debates? It had a bunch of links proving why Brawl doesn't fit as a competitive fighter and why melee is better. What ever came of that that? Did anything come from it?

Here's my predictions:

1. Brawl kids don't travel, resulting in low attendance at many of the events (unlike Melee)
2. Everyone at MLG (like the Halo crowd) see Brawl being played, see how boring and slow it is (whereas the complete opposite happened with Melee).
3. Brawl is dropped next year.

I really like that Smash has returned to MLG, and I don't HATE Brawl, but I can't see this game surviving at MLG. Honestly, if Pound 4 has taught us anything, it's that Melee players WILL travel for big tourneys.

bah.

I think if we admit defeat it really will be over. I'm one of the newcomers that allegedly should be playing Brawl right now, and I most definitely would be if it weren't for YOU. As long as the Melee community (However small and atrophied it's growth may be) is trying to organize tournaments, trying to keep the competitive scene alive, you will be getting new people. Not as many as you'd be getting if Melee was in MLG instead of Brawl, sure, but this isn't the end of the world.

I haven't been around long enough to know about those - you should find them and compile them into a well-presented argument, and maybe add some newer and relevant information.

Just to reiterate for the last time:

This community will not grow in the metaphoric sense until it realizes that it will not grow in the physical sense. This community will not grow in the physical sense because it is old. It has nothing to do with the comparative quality of Melee or Brawl. It is simply a matter of time.

i'm actually pretty disgusted by the melee community now. this is a good thing and your *****ing and moaning won't do anything but cause a bigger split between our communities. the best thing the melee community can do right now is maintain close ties with the brawl community and try to ride some of its popularity.

So should we all gain metaphoric weight or something i'm confused

I think CRASHiC said it best:
This might enrage a lot of people. DON'T BE MAD. this is GOOD for Smash. Support this. You don't have to enter, but if Brawl dies out, then it will make it THAT much harder for them to put in the supposed SSB4 back in OR one day bring Melee back. Look at how long it took them to make SF4 after the collapse that was SF3. Daming this would be bad for smash AS A WHOLE. More people interested in Smash means more for BOTH GAMES.
