I´d like to ask how people around the world hype their matches. By watching Waffles videos I already got a good overview of how you do it in America. @ B.E.A.S.T I noticed Swedish smashers are waaay more quit than we are.

In Germany it´s more about trashtalk and make hype out of nowhere, especially when I an around xD It might be stupid sometimes, but imo it´s the most fun.

As you can see here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARtd53-Rvy4

So how about the other countries? :)

AZ has Taj and Forward, two of the loudest mother****ers in all of smash.

All we need is Yay and AZ would have the loudest smashers in all of NA.

How do you add hype?

Umm.. well usually when I go to places there's lots of trashtalk going on.. so i guess that could be the hype during the matches. Hype before matches I guess would happen on the boards.

It's heavily dependent on player matchup. (I wish i brought more hype =P)

In Canada, hype is generated by Diakanos' trashtalk during times of uncomfortable silences.

I went to this Brawl/Melee tournament this weekend and the Brawl kids were yelling about every little thing...like if Diddy pulled a nana, they would lose their ****. But then I realized that generating hype that way is pretty much like faking an orgasm; there's lots of noise involved, but no one is actually getting off.

I remember back in the day of '08, '09 when Waffles would actually yell in the commentary and make it fun.

(some of my favorite matches, unfortuanately Jeff lost both.)

Smash fests at my house are pretty chill, its just like 3-4 peeps playing, and an exchange of words, except when I do something I'm proud of, like actually win a match because I'm the 3rd worst there, then I get out of my seat and say "yes!!". No trash talk cause Seaside / Salinas is chill like that.

i feel like there is a point where people can become too hype or try to hype something up too much and just start saying random stuff that makes everyone quite down and look at the guy who just blurted out something really strange. Like it was either ROM2 or one of the No Johns tournaments where Hax was playing and some guy behind him was talking about how his combos were going to be causing women to have miscarriages and everyone was just staring at the guy and not saying a word

However i love the fact that the community gets really excited over matches cause it makes the tournament experience that much more memorable. Like even today when people do the most basic of combos everyone is on their feet and yelling which is why i love melee so much

I agree.. I like his hype screaming better lol.
His new **** where he tries not to hype it up too much just because people tell him he's a bad commentator is just kind of awkward

NC locals/sometimes bigger tourneys:

-pick a tv with a match(friendly even)
-grab yay/couple others(yay comes eventually anyway lol)
-yell a lot
-bring in irrelevant jokes to make random factor add in
-is sometimes funnier if the players are bad

for good matches we do about the same thing but louder and with more of us I think lol

not really calling u *** cuz ur calling me bad at commentary(who the **** doenst)

i see u post it all the time and u had that chance to tell me person but didnt

***in *****
It's hard to have both hype and commentary. If you ask me, you should just go back to not giving a **** and letting the hype evolve like it did for wombo combo. Or talk ****, either one is entertaining.

There's actually a video I watched just recently that showcases this perfectly.

Oh well? I talked PLENTY of **** throughout the weekend, so I don't see the point of calling me a ***** or a *****.

When it comes to tourneys I just wana play. I'm not a ***** or anything, I just wana get as many matches in as possible.

Waffles who gives a sh*t about them haters? Haters gonno hate. You have gain fans by being yourself and trying to satisfy everyone(especially them whiners) will just mean nobody is happy. Be yourself, keep the hype train going.

i called u outta name because i swear if like randomly look in a thread about commentary its u talking ****

and the point was to let you know i see the ****

and trust i don't care about the commentary enough to actually be offended by what u said

its more of the action itself that gets me heated

i get the **** all the time dude, but u got me ****ed up if ima let someone i met and shook hands with, just talk **** about me like that, you feel me?

especially since i have nothing against you

Ya obviously there's a big difference between talking **** and actually hating. To me, I would definitely find it annoying for those who pose judgment on someone else when they barely know them. But regardless, if they do hate, I guess you are doing something right. =)
