1. Mickey Mouse. (One of his alternate costumes has to be his Fantasia look!)
2. Donald Duck. (Feels like a pretty obvious choice.)
3. Goofy. (Completing the trinity!)
4. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (I honestly think he warrants his own place. I originally considered him as like a semi-clone of Mickey but looking at stuff like Epic Mickey... I think he should represent the early Toon era whilst Mickey represents more modern Mouse media.)
5. Cinderella. (Pretty much a bread-and-butter Disney Princess pick, but a good and easy one for newbies to pick up - and brings her castle as a stage.)
6. Ariel. (I just really like the idea of her being able to do watery things. She seems like a fun choice, right? Look at Mega Man Arena's interpretation of Splash Woman for inspiration I guess.)
7. Mulan. (I think she's just an obvious pick, being a warrior... plus she could use fireworks as like her final smash or something of the like.)
8. Elsa. (Obligatory Elsa pick, but also kinda obvious? "Ice Queen" is a fun archetype to work with!)
9. Snow White. (In this case, I'd like to really extend her to her entire movie. Let's have her summon animals to fight - even bringing in the Seven Dwarves to work alongside her!)
10. Aladdin and the Genie. (I love the idea of this being a sort of dysfunctional Heritage for the Future character. Imagining the Genie acting like a Stand of sorts for Aladdin seems really fun, and maybe they could even use things like the Flying Carpet!
11. Hercules. (I'd love him to represent both the movie, and Greek mythology as a whole. Perhaps using various trinkets and items from various gods, such as Hermes's winged shoes to allow him to double-jump or even being able to hurl Zeus's thunderbolt as a projectile, could be fun?)
12. Jack Skellington. (Just a really fun Halloweeny pick overall, and a well-loved character with a very unique vibe. One thing I really wanted to ensure with this roster is that characters bring a unique and fun vibe to the place - which is why I don't have all too many characters like Disney Princesses, focusing on more unique ones.)
13. Tarzan. (I just think that the Beast-Like Man archetype would be amazing to see in a fighting game, think a little like Blanka but with less focus on his electricity. He just seems like a really fun addition, and his jungle aptitude could work well to make him a combination of a rushdown grappler - imagine him using vines to grip people!)
14. Simba. (Another "animalistic" character, I think Simba is an obvious choice and Pride Rock would be an amazing stage to see. Being, well, a lion, I think he could work wonders here - but could also bring in his friends to fight with him!)
15. Tron. (Sure, he's relatively obscure, but I think that a combination of the vibes from both classic and Legacy Tron would work really well here. Of course, both appearances are here - and I just think he'd be a very fun, very unique inclusion with a nice vibe.)
16. Buzz Lightyear. (It was between him and Woody, but with the new Lightyear movie coming out plus the old animated movie... I think? It's been a while - well, Buzz kinda exists in his own franchise at this point. Not only this, but his vibe is just really funky and unique. Note that it's based on him in-universe - so yes, his laser does work, and he can fly.)
17. Sully and Mike. (Yes, they're together Ren and Stimpy style. I think Monsters Inc is a really cool film to rep here, plus they just have such a unique look compared to everyone else here, they seem like an obvious choice.)
18. Elastigirl. (Okay, so this was difficult. Which member of the Incredibles is the best one for a game like this? Well, I went with Elastigirl - I think the "strong man" archetype is already here in Hercules, "ice controller" is here with Elsa, and I don't think Dash or Violet alone would be ideal - so Elastigirl was my choice. Her classic appearance would be included as well as her modern appearance!)
10. WALL-E and EVE. (A bit of a weirder Pixar choice, compared to some others that people might think of as more realistic... but this pairing would be so fun. Yes, we do have a lot of pairings in this roster but I think they're all at least unique - whilst Sully and Mike are very different in body types and Aladdin mostly just summons the Genie, WALL-E and EVE in equal parts contribute to the moveset with overall a feeling of organic synergy between them - ironic for a pair of robots!)
20. Agent P. (So, I wanted a Disney TVA rep of some description but it was really difficult to narrow them down. I felt Phineas and Ferb would be a solid choice, but then who to pick? With so many duo characters already, I didn't think it'd be fair to have Phineas alone - and whilst Doofenschmirtz would be an amazing pick in a larger roster, he doesn't really work as the sole rep of the series. As such, I went with Perry - his spy vibe just seems pretty fun here!)
21. Jack Sparrow. (Again, kind of an obvious choice. He's a pirate! Oh, and Pirates of the Carribean is just a really fun series to represent here somehow or other, plus I can imagine the Black Pearl being a very fun stage with the Kraken turning up every so often.)
22. Alice. (A more obscure pick, but I think she's a reasonable one. She could perhaps bring her friends from Wonderland, such as the Mad Hatter or Tweedledum and Tweedledee!)
23. Baymax and Hiro. (An obvious teamup, but Hiro doesn't do much in this case - he's basically just directing Baymax. I think the pairing could work well, plus San Fransokyo just feels like such a unique location to represent here...)
24. Bill Cipher. (A truly evil villain with an "evil chaotic mage" archetype? And one
beloved by a pretty large fanbase? And one who would genuinely be really fun on a roster like this? Sure, why not! I think that whilst Gravity Falls doesn't have a main character here yet, Bill... kinda represents it as a whole in a good way. Also, he'd be fun to close it all off right?)
And here's a visual representation! Characters in green are unlocked at the start, characters in yellow are unlocked during normal gameplay, and characters in blue are DLC. I hope this is at least a semi-balanced roster - it's a bit weirder (and smaller!) than most but I think it could be at least a passable starting point. If Disney were actually to do one of these, I'd suggest starting from a smaller, specific place - maybe Pixar? - and working from there. But yeah - I hope this feels like, semi-balanced at least!
