Yeah I also know that picking Cress Albane from Tales of Phantasia is going to be like the boring ass pick for a tales of rep but this is like the one (and only) scenario where your going to pick him as the only tales of games out at the time of this are Tales of Phantasia like before but also Tales of Destiny 1&2 as well as Tales of Eternia.So.
I did a SEGA roster.
I did a Namco roster.
It's time to mash them together.
No, really, it makes sense! They were two of the biggest juggernauts of Japanese arcades, they had a sort of rivalry with stuff like VF and Tekken, or Daytona and Ridge Racer. They both also have colorful casts of characters that fit right in with each other. They'd actually be really good fits for a Vs. game between each other. So let's do it!
But here's a twist.
I'm envisioning this as a traditional sprite-based 2D fighter released around 2001/2002. Which means only characters from before then will be eligible. This roster's about the classics. Anyway, here we go
SEGA
1. Sonic the Hedgehog
2. Arle Nadja (Puyo Puyo)
3. Sakura Shinguji (Sakura Wars)
4. Akira Yuki (Virtua Fighter)
5. Nei (Phantasy Star II)
6. Magician Type-0 (The House of the Dead)
7. Joe Musashi (Shinobi)
8. Blaze Fielding (Streets of Rage)
9. Alex Kidd
10. NiGHTS
Namco
1. Pac-Man
2. Heihachi Mishima (Tekken)
3. Heishiro Mitsurugi (SoulCalibur)
4. Cress Albane (Tales of Phantasia) (ok i know this is a boring ass tales pick but this is like the one scenario where i'd pick him)
5. Reiko Nagase (Ridge Racer)
6. Klonoa
7. Gilgamesh (The Tower of Druaga)
8. Valkyrie (The Legend of Valkyrie)
9. Toby Masuyo (Baraduke)
10. Rick Taylor (Splatterhouse)
Bosses
SEGA: Wizeman (NiGHTS)
Namco: Kamooz (The Legend of Valkyrie)

Yes, I am imagining this in a world where Disney's acquisition history is the same, but Square Enix keeps their European division.
I know I missed a few, but that's what DLC is for.
They still own gex but not tomb raider. The post said that they're imagining SE keeps their european division thoughpretty sure Gex and Lara are no longer owned by square-enix

You put Winnie the Pooh in your Disney fighter, or anyone else from the 100 Acre Wood, and you automatically get my approval.I'm at it again, this time with a Disney roster. I know, kind of unoriginal, but here is what I thought of:
View attachment 368700
I went with 30 characters (kind of a lot, but Disney is HUGE), which I organized in 4 rows because I don't like the look of a 3x10 roster. I tried to come up with a nice balance between protagonists, deuteragonists, sidekicks, and villains, as well as to balance between old and new (although I came to realize that new characters tend to be better fits for this kind of stuff) and Disney and Pixar properties (Pixar only has 6 fighters out of 30 but keep in mind that Pixar does A LOT of sequels, while Disney has done sequels for only like 3 or 4 movies, and that many of Pixar's most iconic movies are based on rather unique characters that you can't easily turn into playable fighters).
I also sticked to max 1 character for each universe, with one blatant exception (I don't think anyone will be mad at me for adding both Mickey Mouse AND Donald Duck).
Here are a few ideas and comments about each character.
Now for the unlockables
- Mickey Mouse is a no-brainer. I went with his original design instead of the popular Sorcerer's Apprentice because I think that 100 of years of cartoons and comics give Mickey way more potential than a mere 15 minutes in one movie. However, I'd give Mickey a couple of spells that use his Sorcerer's hat (a la King K. Rool with the Blunderbuss). Broadly speaking, Mickey would be the shoto of the game.
- Perhaps a bit controversially, but I think that Sora is a must have in a game like this. His moveset would be very similar to the one he has in SSBU, but I'd rework a few of his attacks (like his Counterattack and Sonic Blade). After all, Sora has a ton of attacks to pull from in his original game series.
- Another no-brainer is Elsa. I think that Disney would pick her mostly due to her popularity, but she'd be a very cool (pun intended) fighter, with her ice powers. Maybe she'd be a bit on the zoner side. Also yes, if you go check my Bandai-Namco roster, you'll see that I used a lighter shade of blue. I had to change it due to Elsa's dress, but I think it fits better with a few other characters too.
- A Toy-Story representative was something I needed to add. The choice was between Woody and Buzz Lightyear and I went with the latter, mainly because I think that you can pull a lot more attacks from him. I'd give him moves based on him being a sci-fi spaceman, like a laser beam and jet boosts. Buzz would also have multiple jumps, because he can
flyfall with style.- Representing the Disney Princesses as a whole, Cinderella comes in as a surprising fighter. I couldn't decide between her and Snow White, but I think that Cinderella encompasses the idea of a princess better than anyone else (also, among the classic Disney Princesses movie trio, Cinderella was my favorite). For her moveset, I'd give a few attacks based on dancing moves, a cart dash that uses the pumpkin carriage, and for some move Jaq and Gus would also make an appearance.
- Since his movie is based on the world of video games, Wreck-It Ralph had to make an appearance. I imagine Ralph as a heavyweight fighter with very powerful punches and slams. Perhaps, he could also take a couple of attacks from Donkey Kong's moves in Smash, considering that Ralph is somewhat based on DK.
- Mrs. Incredible would be a very fun addition with her elastic prowess, much more so than her husband in my opinion. She'd have crazy range for most of her attacks but they would not be disjointed hit-boxes, considering that Helen has to stretch her own body in order to perform these moves. For her recovery move, she could even turn herself into a giant parachute!
- Beast is yet another heavyweight, but a more feral one than Ralph. I'd give him a gimmick based on the Enchanted Rose, in which the longer he goes undefeated, the stronger he gets, a nod to the fact that he becomes more and more anxious because the rose is going to wither.
- From a beast to another, Simba is a quadrupedal fighter, something we really enjoy as platform fighter fans. As for his attacks, they'd be pretty basic, but perhaps Timon and Pumbaa could make an appearance here and there, though I'd rather not have them.
- The token duo fighter for the game is made of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The player takes direct control of Judy while Nick would follow and attack alongside her, like what happens with Popo and Nana. However, since Judy and Nick are so different, both in terms of physical appearance and morality, I think that they should have different moves that somewhat compliment well with each other. If Nick is defeated, then the player can fight with Judy alone, but she would be much weaker.
- Maui from Moana would be yet another very fun addition, using the magic hook both to perform powerful melee attacks and to transform Maui into any sort of different animal. His moveset would be very simple yet effective.
- Representing the Disney TVA as a whole, Agent P was picked over the competition because it would be so, so, SO fun to play as a secret agent platypus. He'd use both kung-fu attacks as well as gadgets for his attacks.
- Mei Lee is a unique take on the powerhouse fighter, as she would be a lightweight character with rather weak attacks in most cases BUT a few of her moves would have her change into her giant red panda self. These are the attacks you should be look out for. Or, if you're playing against her, the attacks you should avoid at all costs.
- Coming in from the most recent Disney movie, Ethan Clade would be a fun addition. Between Splat, electric seeds and cultivation tools, I think he'd be a neat character. Splat would also give him long ranged attacks that ARE disjointed!
- Our third and final Princess (I probably should have added one more, shouldn't I?) is Mulan. Her moveset revolves around her swordplay, her martial arts, sticks, her fan even and fireworks. Mushu makes an appearance too, being used (or abused) to perform some fire attacks.
- The most unsuspecting fighter of the game, Winnie the Pooh makes an appearance as a heavyweight fighter with rather weak moves, that hit opponents only due to Winnie's clumsiness. Winnie would also have a unique move where he eats honey, regaining health. This move would be VERY slow though, and not that abusable.
- A much more suspecting fighter, Stitch is a small, lightweight pushdown fighter, able to deal massive damage and to force approaches using his laser guns. Similarly to Beast, he has a gimmick that increases his strength. However, Stitch's gimmick also changes a few of his attacks once a meter is filled (we'll call it the Good-Evil Meter), since Stitch has now grown an extra set of arms. The Good-Evil Meter is not tied to time, though, but to the damage he deals to the opponents, meaning that Stitch can snowball fast.
- Baloo is an extremely fun character and one of my personal favorites, so perhaps this choice was a bit biased. He'd be yet another heavyweight that attacks opponents with claw swipes and fruits, but mostly with dance moves. Much like his fellow bear Winnie the Pooh, Baloo is on the clumsy side but, unlike Winnie, he is also a powerhouse. He'd also have one or two moves based on his appearance in the TV show TaleSpin.
- The lightest fighter in the game would be Tinker Bell. She'd also be very good in the air, having multiple jumps and a sort of glide-float ability. I imagine that one of her attacks would force the opponents to float in midair, acting as a fancy-looking command grab. Maybe she could even have a fly meter, like the Iron Giant in MultiVersus? That'd be neat.
- Our final starter fighter (the last 10 are unlockables) and our first villain, Maleficent was another no-brainer. She'd use her strong spells coming both from the animated and the live-action movie. As such, I think she should have multiple jumps, referencing her wings in the Maleficent movies.
- Donald Duck is yet another favorite of mine but this time I am confident that he is not a biased pick. His moves are very basic, mostly punches and kicks but he has the third meter-gimmick of the game (I promise you this is the last), named Goin' Quackers!, where he becomes increasingly angry (and in turn strong) the more damage he takes, akin to Lucario's aura but a lot less powerful. As an aesthetic note, Donald's idle animation becomes a lot more aggressive as he gets angry.
- Ian Lightfoot is another wizard, but I think that his spells are different enough from Maleficent to justify his inclusion (and I wanted another Pixar representative). He'd have fire, thunder, levitating spells and much more.
- From magic to science, EVE is a lightweight zoner with extremely powerful projectiles. She'd zip around the stage, shooting opponents here and there with lasers and guns.
- A third favorite of mine (I promise you this is the penultimate), Jack Skellington joins the roster based on his unique frame and fighting style, more akin to an acrobat than a bruiser. With his very long legs, he'd have a lot of reach for most of his attacks but he'd be a lightweight. He'd also have a gimmick (named Ghostlike Charm) where he deals more damage to opponents that are hit from behind.
- Another quadrupedal fighter, Kuzco has the ability to stand on the hind legs if need be. I'd add him mostly due to his huge personality, but I think that the roster could use more fighters that are not bipedal. Speaking of...
- Randall is the representative from the Monsters universe. Kinda odd, I know but I feel that Sulley would be too similar to Beast and I also wanted another villain, especially one from Pixar. Ernesto de la Cruz was a close contender, but Monsters was too important to represent so I chose Randall. He'd be a slithering fighter, running low to the ground on all eight. He'd also be able to turn invisible: in this stage, he deals more damage to the opponents, but he also takes more damage. Uniquely, Randall can also cling and climb vertical walls and surfaces.
- Captain Jack Sparrow is a very iconic character I simply had to represent. With his sword, flintlock, and even some fire grenades (like the ones he uses in Kingdom Hearts), he'd be a very unique fighter that, like Kuzco, has plenty of personality to spare.
- Ursula is our third villain and our second sorcerer at that but I chose her mostly due to her unique body frame: with her octopus body, she'd move very uniquely and she could use her tentacles for some attacks as well. Her eels Flotsam and Jetsam would make an appearance for some attacks.
- Our penultimate fighter and my last favorite pick (though, like with Donald and Jack Skellington, I don't think he is THAT biased as a pick), the Genie is yet another spell caster but, unlike the previous ones I discussed, he'd be a much more cartoony take of the archetype. With this guy, the sky's the only limit: he performs plenty of unique moves, but you can also make up pretty much anything with him and it would still work. However, one move would be a firework attack that can only be used three times per stock and that becomes stronger with each increasing use, as a reference to the three wishes.
- Finally, Dr. Facilier is our last character. Facilier would be another lightweight sorcerer but he'd also have a gimmick (named Friend on the Other Side), where his shadow acts sort of like Luma for Rosalina, but in a less prominent way (after all, a shadow is harder to see amidst the fray than a literal baby star). As for his other attacks, Facilier would use dark magic and even voodoo.
Shoutouts to Rapunzel, Raya, and Robin Hood (all three names begin with the letter R, now that I see it) for being that close to be added but competed (and ultimately lost) to Randall (another R-named fella).
