yeah, i know what you mean. it's really good but if it's in trouble if it's trying to fill the same niche as melee.Project M
I really like the concept, but I see the entire thing as pretty tragic. For the amount of effort they are putting into, and the amount of potential it has, it's really limited in adopt rate it just because it's a mod.
Regarding the demo, it's super-well done. The problem is, for now Melee is still a bit better, while PM is a bit 'fresher'. Once the 'omgnewstuff' wore off, it turned into me playing Sheik/Puff vs. Melee high tiers over and over again. When this happened, I felt sorta clueless as to why I was even playing PM, especially because I'm really interested in getting better at melee atm.
Maybe with tons of new characters and a bit more tweaking it will be 'fun' to play for a lot longer. But when I want to play lol4srs, will there EVER be a reason not to go back to melee?
the physics still seem different enough. (i downloaded it last night after people were talking about it) just play against lv 1's in melee for c-stick practice.I'm actually just using it now cuz it allows c-stick in training mode (I don't have AR) and alot of the physics are the same so it can't be that bad right? :S (or is this a bad idea)
As an actual game, it certainly has the potential to, because they can keep changing / tweaking it until it is. As for actual popularity and community, I have a hard time seeing how it possibly could.it's never gonna surpass melee <_< why would it?

wiis can only read 2GB or less SD cardsYeah, I got it fixed. Project M doesn't work with SD hc cards aparently =( And you can only use SD cards that are 2GB or less.
I'm actually enjoying playing against computers here... they know how to tech and mix up recoveries and are overall smarter than the melee computers that just jab.
We don't think we can make a game of total balance. However, since we are using the melee template as a base, we can make informed decisions on how to improve characters who performed poorly. Adding brawl characters to this base of course adds additional uncertainty regarding balance, and no matter what it will cause tiers. However, tiers exist in any fighting game with more than 1 character. However, these changes and new characters are also Project M's greatest asset as it makes it a fresh new spin on smash.@ Project: M
The idea that you can create 26 different characters each with their own unique powers and abilities, stick them in a game, and still imbue them all with a reasonably similar chance of success in a competitive environment totally baffles me. I don't believe in complete game balance. I don't believe it's necessary for a game to be fun or successful. And I'm not even sure we understand games well enough to be able to create such a thing yet, particularly if the stipulation is that each character has to be different (since we're using Melee characters, who are all different).
At any rate, while it might be a fun game to screw around with disgruntled Brawl players or whatever, but I am going to stick to the original work. On that note, half the fun of playing Pichu or whoever is knowing they suck but winning anyways. And that's something your balanced nonsense will never have!
The biggest obstacle is clearly the community.
The fact is that the community is so set that it won't put in the time to get used to that 5% that just makes it "feel" a tiny bit different in order to get all of those advantages. This is probably what's needed to grow the melee community and bring it into the next generation. If the community won't accept that it's ship has come, it's clear that there's no getting through to it.

Now this is what I think is the sore spot for a lot of melee players. We have built a game and acknowledge its not a melee replacement, its meant to be a game where you could play melee or Project M at any time for whatever reason you want. We aren't forcing this on anyone, and if anything, I think it can help grow both the melee and brawl community as it bridges the gap across both. I think this sums it up best for me:

Boost grabbing is actually a melee technique that everyone can do but it's only beneficial for like Fox and Sheik (it's very noticable with them).I'm assuming boost grabbing is something in Brawl as I never heard of it in Melee. PM has JC grabs though which I would imagine is better than boost grabbing as grabbing can't get any better than JC grabs.
