Not really. 2019 and 2020 are night and day. 2019 there was a ton of names floating around and now it's honestly down to like 10 that people take seriously and "the Fat Pass©" are half of them. Kind of went over it in July but of my predictions Dante and Crash are not even really a debate anymore; most people expect them now.

I think the problem is that, knowing Nintendo, the first party DLC picks would not be fan favorites but promotional picks, and nobody likes a pass full of shills (granted, I wouldn't call Min Min a shill, but you get the point).

Almost every character can be a shill to some degree. Geno could come and then they announce SMRPG for the NSO, so technically Geno is shilling something. However, that doesn't make shill picks automatically bad. If Dixie was revealed alongside Tropical Freeze, she would be an ad for the game, but she also has a history with fans and is a popular request, so the ad aspect is a bonus with her, not her main characteristic. If she debuted in TF and was playable in Smash, that would be a bad shill pick as she is added only to push her game.

So first party can be promotional choices but it won't stand out if they also have an organically built fanbase of support.

Roy, Greninja, Corrin and Byleth are all straight-up shill characters, confirmed to have been picked by the Smash team before their home games were publically released and available. Roy and Greninja are downplayed examples since they were base roster for their Smash games, not DLC.

On the second point: not only do I disagree that everything is inherently based in politics, I also have to point out that the Geno thread is not meant for discussing politics. It's for discussing Geno, the game he came from, and anything else related to him as a character and which ultimately ties back into discussion about his chances as a DLC character in Smash. We aren't here to talk about tribalism, or socialism, or consumerism. Even the whole topic of Nintendo's lack of consistent news isn't for the sake of questioning their integrity as a company, it's simply observing that they have not been putting out much information - such as DLC characters in Smash. Like Geno.

If you can't handle the inevitable discussions of capitalism and accountability then at the very least don't participate in the conversation instead of telling others that anything beyond surface-level analysis is inappropriate.
And to M MattOnwheels , stop worrying about hyping responsibly. Let people crash and burn. I see way too many people on the streets not even wearing a mask to worry about some dude online stressing about a fictional puppet.

Because there's nothing new to talk about. It's so slow right now that I even went over my old notes to see if I overlooked anything. Only thing of potential interest is that I heard vague Luigi's Mansion stuff a long time ago (back in the winter so like January/February) and basically forgot because not a lot has come up to support it aside from the Luigi's Mansion 3 spirits still being missing now 10 months after LM3's release. If it has any sort of merit it's probably just a port of the original and/or Dark Moon because 3 did absurdly well and Nintendo milking Luigi wouldn't surprise me at all (have fun with that sentence).

To be fair, Greninja was arguably one of Sakurai's most prophetic picks since despite being a shill, it actually did go on to be one of the most popular pokemon of Gen 6. And as for Geno potentially being a shill, the fact that he was already in high demand creates a sort of "chicken or the egg" scenario. Would it be the character shilling the new game, or the new game shilling the character? Look at how Pit's reinvention in Brawl brought about a revamped reboot of Kid Icarus. Is that a shill? Or could one call it a revival? The lines can be blurred sometimes.

So far, I think we've literally never gotten truly hype first party DLC that wasn't a veteran like Mewtwo. I'd honestly love the hell out of both Waluigi and Isaac, to the point where I really don't even care which one they pick. But it feels like a trap to hype up these characters only to be met with crushing disappointment when the next first party ends up being a Pokemon or something super underwhelming as usual.

Between the discution a 1st Party Focused Pass, I wouldn't be suprised if we get one or two more but I doubt more than that, IMO should be something like this:
-A 1st Party who promotes something (Like Byleth)
-A 3rd Party who would be the BIG pass seller (Like Joker)
-A 1st Party who is more like a Sakurai pick (Like Terry, I know Terry is 3rd Party but is a Big Sakurai pick)
-A long time request 3rd Party (Like Banjo)
-A 3rd Party who promotes a new switch game (Like Hero)
I saw this on ResetEra: Min Min, Any Pokemon Rep, Crash, Rex, Geno and Travis. It's just perfect and I doubt somebody would be mad with this

Probably not an ideal pass for some, but this would definitely be an ideal pass for me

I personally think that most DLC spirits disconfirm. They probably knew which Nintendo characters they were going with last year so it wouldn’t have made sense to give Astral Chain or Ring Fit any content before they were revealed as a fighter; they would’ve waited like they did with Three Houses.

As for Sw/Sh, they have A LOT of options to go with there for both the potential fighter & extra spirits. I could see it being an exception, even though I don’t personally want it.

I mean there’s always the chance I’m wrong & we could see Astral Chain, Ring Fit or even Resident Evil. But I’d gladly eat my words since I want all 3 of those series to get a Fighter lol

Hey , it's been forever since I posted in here , but Iv'e been playing some Moon Remix RPG Adventure lately. It's a japanese PS1 game from 1997 made by love De Lic , and got translated and localized for Switch just a few days ago.

After learning a bit more about who worked on that game , I noticed that one chara designer from the SMRPG staff worked on this : Kazuyuki Kurashima.
And wanna know the juicy part ?
One of the characters in that game is the son of a puppet prince , and his name is "Noge" , he also wear a blue hat.
Yup.
This is an anagram for "Geno'.

This post made my day. Thank you so much. I'm glad at least a few here understand the perspective I'm trying to add.

Still, I want to be clear: Griselda and QQS are good people and I have no issue with them. I can certainly understand how my ranting could seem off topic as it relates to Geno and I know not everyone is going to have a taste for my more critical opinions regarding Nintendo, but I'm not going to be dishonest about the fact i'm unhappy with them and the way they've handled themselves. I've supported Geno in Smash since brawl and been pretty pro-Nintendo since the Switch was revealed. I've been following this thread since ultimate launched, been a regular in it since Banjo's release, and im even working on a Piano cover of "Beware The Forest's Mushrooms" for the day he gets revealed. I don't know how much more solidarity I can show to the community than that. If the trade off for that means I have to endure being called a Bolshevik because I don't kiss Nintendo's asses (As if being a Bolshevik is even a bad thing, by the way) I'm prepared to do so. I know what I say and why I say it. It isn't my concern if others don't. At the end of the day I love everyone here regardless of whether or not they agree with me.

On a more serious note - and this is important - you don't have to look at everything with such politically-minded eyes. QQS is a beacon of optimism in this thread, and if you think he was implying anything harmful or dangerous by that wording, then you're thinking about it way too hard. Considering the actual statement, it was clearly just meant to represent Geno's fanbase coming together to share their excitement whenever things are looking up for us.

This is exactly why I meant. I didn’t even think of harmful stuff or dangerous things coming from me. To make it even more clear, I don’t even understand many USA or English slangs when someone tell me I said something bad. For example once I misspelled KKK instead of KKR (King k Rool) and someone insinuated I was racist and I should take care with my words when IT WAS 100% clear it was a mistake when I wrote on the keyboard. It’s totally understandable that I don’t even understand all of the slangs people use, mostly for the people thinking I post “harmful” stuff.

Also remember I was born in Chile, my native Language is Spanish, I speak a normal English, and my parents are 100% Arabic (Palestinian & Syrian). So it’s imposible for me to be racist, and Im against racism. Im also 30 years old, I know what I mean and I don’t need people to tell me how to behave (this is for the people who though I was racist or “inciting on hate” by saying KKK by mistake instead of KKR; and use the word tribe). Oh god...calm down people who react without sense.

I don't think Minecraft is that unlikely. I was happily surprised that Banjo made it in the first pass, but I always felt like Minecraft representation in Smash wouldn't feel out of place. (A Minecraft stage could be super cool!).

With all of the companies that didn't get a fighter in the first pass, I'm not sure what I think about Microsoft being in the second as well, but I guess we'll see. (Eventually, an eternity it seems now, haha.)

Going on everything we know, the characters mentioned do make the most sense currently, but we have also seen wildcards thrown into the mix from time to time as up until the Nintendo of Spain leak, we had no idea SNK was getting a rep.

When you say that "it's impossible to be racist" due to your obviously diverse culture and lineage, that's not theoretically true. Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't think you're racist by any means whatsoever, I just wanted to point out the fact that ANY human can be capable of racism if they intentionally harbor prejudice against another race. I feel that WAY too often, especially in the United States, people have a stereotypical misconception that all English-speaking European-decent white people are both inherently racist and the only ones capable of being that way. This is flat out not true. Any country, culture or color can be racist if they so choose to be, especially in a place where they comprise the ethnic majority. Even among relatively similar groups, you can have people being racist. For example, I used to live in Panama where the Spanish-decent citizens were highly prejudice against the native Americans of that region despite the fact that many of them had inter-married and lived among each other. It's a somewhat natural inclination for humans to want to see the advantages of their own kind which can often breed contempt with those that aren't like them. Regardless of how exotic someone's background or characteristics can be, the only way people can rise above racism is to simply choose to not be that way. This is universal no matter who you are.

That's largely true because Smash information is extremely hard to come by and it's almost always been a game of piecing clues together. Honestly, the last character that I was outright told was "happening" was Banjo.

there’s also some interesting stuff to do with AlphaDream. It’s stated in here that as soon as AlphaDream went bankrupt they bought the mario and Luigi series rights off them so that they didn’t experience what happened with Square Enix again.
