If there’s going to be a presentation, either a full Direct or Mini, there’s going to be a Smash announcement. It’d be one thing if Nintendo was holding quarterly or announcements every 4 months, but like you guys obsessively say all the time, it’s basically been a year since the last full direct and many months since the last mini direct. If they keep the same schedule, we’ll have one more mini direct and one more Direct’s worth of announcements until the end of 2021. You don’t think they’re going to do one Smash announcement now but will do 5 that way? Sure, they could hold more Sakurai presents or individual announcements, and sure, they might, but I doubt they’ll do 5 of those being the initial announcement.
I can’t see a presentation without a Smash announcement. I’m personally still going with FP7 reveal and FP8 teaser (or reveal) if we’re really considering that the DLC schedule is still on track. I don't think we have any reason to believe the release schedule has been delayed that much, so Fall 2020 and Winter 2020 for FP7 / FP8 doesn’t seem crazy at all. Sure, we could get the announcement for FP8 around when FP7 releases, but if we’re still going with the current state of announcements, you really think we’re getting a Direct now and in 2 months?
Obviously I could be wrong, but just thinking this through logically, it’d be incredibly strange to have some sort of Direct presentation after many months and not have something shown from one of their top selling franchises, especially since Smash is technically the only thing we know for sure they’re still working on besides BotW2 (and I suppose Metroid but that’s been cancelled once without any clear indication it’s been on track once restarted).
No need to be pessimistic about all this. Nintendo’s not going anywhere.
