Yeah, the fact that it says, "franchise new to WayForward" instead of "new franchise from WayForward" is really interesting.

It's really hard to tell what they could mean, though, but it sounds exciting no less.

Yeah, this could be big...

-Multiple rumors about dead franchises being revived in 2020/2021.

-Recent rumor of a "classic" Nintendo character coming back in an unexpected way.

Considering the types of games Wayforward is known for, this could potentially narrow it down and might actually be one of the three dead franchises I heard about coming back. Hopefully tomorrow is worth watching.
The question ultimately is which franchise does Wayforward have on their table

Looking back at WayForward's library of games, they indeed are masters of the 2D platformer craft. For some reason thinking back on games like Shantae, Ducktales (Remastered), Switch Force, I can't help but think of the Wario Land games. Heh, imagine a new Wario Land game only this time around, Waluigi finally co-stars in the new entry (a-la Mario Bros.) and one can choose which of the Wario bros. to play.:denzel:

You know, not only am I happy that WayForward is possibly working on a Nintendo property(They are great devs and deserve the opportunity), but this could help solidify the hope that Nintendo will have indie devs work on their unused properties rather than letting them collect dust!

This is great too because it potentially shows that Nintendo is keeping it's promise that it made last year that it wouldn't be as strict with their franchises and would even let indies take the wheel for their IPs, kind of like we saw with Cadence of Hyrule. Also, if it wasn't Nintendo related, why the Hell would they have a special Treehouse presentation for it?

Conveniently ignore my message and accuse us of not playing Fire Emblem. You started playing Fire Emblem 4 years ago and now think you are an authority. I’ve been playing Fire Emblem since before you were probably even born, get back to me when you’ve played fan translations of the original 6 Fire Emblem games. Take the concern trolling and holier than thou attitude back to Reddit

Also, Shiek was a mistake, lmao, hahaha
This is the most condescending thing I've read in quite some time. I have been playing Fire Emblem games since 2003 and have played all of them (including whatever the heck Fire Emblem GBA is, there are several) to completion, having played through 3H four times. Just because you've played the newer ones that are slowly becoming waifu simulators where you can do whatever you want with unit class to the point where it becomes not even unique anymore doesn't make you a good authority on Fire Emblem representation in Smash Bros. I agree that FE deserves a ton of representation in smash, but the choices they've made for who to include have been largely horrible and deserve every bit of the scrutiny they receive.
This kind of hostility is uncalled for, and the "No True Scotsman" fallacy doesn't help.

I knew it. Guys, check Twitter. Freakin' WARIO LAND is trending. After the surprise announcement of the Nintendo Treehouse livestream for tomorrow, people know what they want.

Hey D domriver , I actually just had it pointed out to me that, while WayForward did not develop WarioWare, Matt Bozon(Director of Shantae) did have a special inclusion in D.I.Y.

Wario Land is definitely a possibility, but there are other franchises that Wayforward could tackle. Metroid, Kid Icarus, even StarTropics

Given this new WayForward news, I'd like to remind you all of The Mummy: Demastered, a metroidvania game made by WayForward that's leagues better than the actual movie it was a tie-in for.

Either Wario Land, StarTropics or Kid Icarus would be neat.

Could they be working on a mario and Luigi game for the switch. Didn’t Nintendo recently re-new mario and Luigi’s trademark.

The other two I could see being the WayForward game, but Metroid already has Mercury Steam, and I don't think Nintendo would dump them for WayForward after they already made a Metroid game that was well liked.

If Paper Mario isn't gonna turn itself around back to its roots, WayForward working on Mario & Luigi to pick up the slack would be nice.

WayForward takes licenced games surprisingly serious.

Whatever the Nintendo franchise is, it'll be interesting to see which one Wayforward got to work with and how they pull this off. They made Contra 4 amazing, so it can go in a lot of ways

One thing to get hyped about no matter what the game serious is, if they have the budget(And if they are working with Nintendo, they probably do), we are likely gonna see some amazing pixel art. We don't often get to see that in modern Nintendo games, especially to WayForward quality.

I don't think I really want a new Kid Icarus that doesn't play like Uprising. What I want is Uprising, but with more comfortable controls.

Or imagine if WayForward are working on the rumored 2D Metroid game. Metroid hugely influence the gameplay aspect of the Shantae series so this would be quite a honor for them if so.

Maybe, but I'd rather give the rumored 2D Metroid to Mercury Steam since they did a good job with Samus Returns. I agree with the opinion that WayForward would be a good fit for Wario Land.

I'm hoping we get a Xenoblade DE style Remake of Uprising one day. Bringing the game to a new audience while fixing a lot of the underlying issues that held the game back. Maybe with some new content.

I love Nintendo had to chill people out haha. Would have been nice, but interested to see what the third party is.

If Nintendo is giving a spotlight to it despite being third party, it does make me really wonder what it is.

A third party property being worked on by Wayforward? That raises a ton of possibilities here

The Twitter thread is funny because virtually all the comments are people immediately deflated and uninterested in the game. It could still wind up being something really cool but you can tell everyone was craving a franchise revival.

I have been playing FE since before it was translated for US audiences and I think there we both too many FE characters and all of them are way too similar.

Also, I’d like to point out that for as much hate Geno gets on this site you don’t ever have people who are fans campaigning out in random threads to butt in anytime anything less than positive is said about Geno and condescend to everyone in said thread the way fans of certain characters/franchises do here. For as toxic as we’re made out to be we at least stay in our “echochamber”.

MegaMan Legends 3 for instance would get a lot of hype

Maybe it could be an ArkSys or Konami property, as WayForward has worked on River City Girls and Contra 4.

Wonder if Tecmo would be cool with them making a Ninja Gaiden game?
