Curious how much tech skill is there needed to be lets say pretty effective with Fox?

EX:
65% Tech Skill
35% Smarts

Im not a super technical Fox I always seem to be patient and just outplay my opponents.

Do you guys feel Fox has to be Super Technical nowadays or does just out playing smart work well also?

Technicality with Fox is that really that important if you wanna be successful and place?

Wanna see what you guys think.
you need both actually. Tech skill can provide you with the frame advantage and placing in a particular position you want to be in at that time.

Smarts require trickery and bait the opponent into doing something like how Javi waveshines backwards waits for you to roll and then shine>doubleshine off of the the stage.

I think you need 50% techskill
50% smarts.

smarts will always beat tech skill at top level stuff. This is for every.......legit game? street fighter and melee.

If you can roughly do about 90-95% of what you want to do with your character, then there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to win a tournament.

Best example we have is m2k vs armada pound 5 or genesis. m2k kept getting up the ledge with fox the same way throughout game 2 and 3. Armada saw it last stock, last game to give him the victory. Of course there other stuff that made armada win, but these are/were (sorry m2k) technical players at the time.

I know of 3 or 4 foxes that even more technical than kels (midwest's best player). Yeah, he doesn't do well at nationals, but he has my vote to beat 99% of smash players. He'll see what your doing slowly adapt to it by sitting back and punishing you with a 60% combo.

Adapting players are scary as ****!

iirc the set pika avatar is talking about, m2k uses the Y get up last stock and is probably a MISTAKE/error in which he tries to waveland on.

just my guess in the situation.

I would say both are requirements, but there are a lot of ways skill shows, whether its match up knowledge, better tech skill, reading better, adapting better, reacting better ect.

There are so many ways to "get better" and so many things a person can improve upon as a player.

dependent on matchup..but my ratio would be like

for fox:
50% spacing techniques (requires all basic movement technical skills to 99% consistency)

then 10% random semi-hard tech skills like shortening, invuln waveland on, shine grab

30% knowledge of defensive options and recovery options

and 10% reading/adaptation.

for marth:
50% spacing technique,

15% knowledge of comparative properties of your aerials hitbox

5% tech skill (by which i really just mean consistency)

25% knowledge of defensive options

5% adaptation ( you'd think this would be higher, but i feel like if you are just properly mixing things up things will work out anyway)

i don't even think about the game in these terms anymore. arguing about tech skill vs. smarts is just jerking off lol

i will say that all this **** honestly blends together. the more you play the game, the more you realize that reading your opponent is seriously 90% experience, and that good tech skill is just as much defined by intelligence as it is brawn.

this too: pretty much everyone at the top level of this game has absolutely insane tech skill. everyone that consistently places high at melee is at some of the highest levels of tech skill this game has ever been, and on top of that they're just as smart as people have ever been. **** percents, this game is 100% tech skill and 100% smarts.

EDIT: just read toph's post
after a point the line between smarts and techskill blurs.
pretty much

Melee is 100% smarts. Having amazing tech skill is just a really good decision. If you don't have (or only have) good tech skill, you're not very smart, are you?

White controllers are the best, in my opinion. All the models before that are just trash. Personally, I don't see any difference in the normal wear and tear of use, but white controllers' plastic is a better grip on the hand. And they have longer cords, which means a lot to me.

^ lol

I used all of the controllers and I would have to say that the white one is the best. You get a better grip on it and feels lighter then the other controllers.
