you jab so that they dont get knocked away by the nair. then u can grab and ****.

that's assuming they arent in cc percents.

but nair-> runn upsmash is neat as well
You don't need the jab though. If it's at the percents when nair grab works, just use nair grab or nair utilt. Eliminate the unreliable middleman.

I mean, attempting to land a nair is already dangerous enough vs most characters. Don't throw in a jab there on top of that without good reason.

I wasn't proposing that nair->jab->grab should be the norm or the "go to". I was just answering the question of why people sometimes throw jabs in there.

on another note, that upair -> tech chase grab thing i was talking about earlier, heres an example from lucky vs jman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BarU4eVipb0#t=5m12s

lucky misses the upair and all he has to do run and grab (i guess he messed up, he looked like he went for some sort of grab)
the beauty of it is most people instinctively sheild in that situation (like jman did) and even if you aren't super fast you can get em anyway.

yeah those were some sick games. you guys both had some nuts combos/tech chases and some great reads and spacing. your edgeguarding was especially solid, jman. congrats.

Cold hands: attempt a waveshine, airdodge right off the stage.
E: Jman you're too good. D:

I feel accomplished, just doubleshined with Fox in a match then drilled to break a shield.
Well, it didn't work, and I got grabbed to knee and lost, but it made me feel proud.

i'm about to watch jman vs zhu about a hundred times. i'm currently set on completely maining fox now, the only reason i haven't made the full commitment is due to falco. but jman makes me see the light!

Jesus is way too good.

What should I do against a reaaaally good Falcon? He's not much on the mindgames aside from unpredictability, but his grabs and raptor boosts and all sorts of crap into knees is really punishing. So far all I've done is DI into a normal knee. :c

My favourite fox is unknown522. Canada ftw.

People who call themsleves noob are trying not to discredit the accomplishments other players have made. In comparison with the average player, of course no one on smashboards is a noob but people feel weird just throwing their opinion out without that disclaimer because it seems disrespectful and ignorant.

What do you guys think of drill shine vs nair shine for approach? Drill just seems better but i dunno.

Not really that good considering I joined the scene 2 months ago, but to me:
Drill shine is good for damage, and works on certain characters (Falco for me, since a nair almost always leads to a shl game). There's not much lag time if L-canceled to be grabbed out of (I think Falcon can though, since that always happens to me), and it works against pretty much any none projectile-spammable character. Drillshine is a lot easier to, they can't really di out of it and such.

Nair shine I've done like twice but it's probably easier to do on characters like ICs and stuff, not really sure why, that's what happened both times. I usually nair grab, nair tail, or nair jab.

nair shine is a better move unless it's gonna get CC'd.

also the other day i did uthrow -> shine -> wd -> doubleshine off the stage -> edgeguard against a falco. i felt good 8-)

Posted this a page or so back, to no response:

My friend has recently started playing and I am looking for any commentary on his play style:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i watched for like 2 minutes and he didn't get any grabs >_>

or maybe he did but he definitely didn't go for them

and he aimed nairs at zoso's current location in a neutral situation which fox should never do against marth

and he didn't try to edgeguard at all. in that first match on battlefield there was literally a time when he baired zoso off the stage while zoso had no jump, and he had a guaranteed easy edgeguard but just ran away and did wavedashes as if he thought he took the stock. so like, i don't think he's paying enough attention to his opponent

sooo, go for grabs more, and mix up the approaches better. maybe just play more defensively overall especially against a marth like zoso

that said, he has pretty solid looking tech skill and looks pretty good for someone who recently started, so i think he should keep up the good work :D

@Toph: I know I've talked to him about the nairs like that. I've told him to try and play with out those nairs completely, so that he can find other ways of approaching (like shine <3). He's definitely making progresso soup though.

OTHER PEOPLE, INPUT PLEASE!!!

he probably maens powershield.

if that's what you mean, then: it's worth it to learn how to powershield falco's lasers, and nothing else is that crucial.

Shine is about as safe as it gets, or laser. dash attack gets CC'd pretty easy @ higher levels and is generally slow/predictable. It's a fantastic move if you're landing it @ higher percents.

Pretty much any standard fox combo. You can waveshine to grab to upthrow to up/back-air or wave shine upsmash... Other than the basic combos, you usually just have to be creative on reaction to DI.

dash attack is good as the marth is landing if he's in lag or something and can't throw out a fair. then he can't CC it and it launches him and let's you land an aerial pretty easily. somewhat hard to find the opportunities when that's safe though.

learn to u-throw shffl nair at low percents

it's so good, links to so much nonsense

uhhh

waveshine to f-smash is actually useful vs her sometimes but nobody does it lololol

u-tilt beats or trades with her bair and nair and dair if she comes down on top of you

so after combos you can sometimes extend them if she lacks a jump by just waiting underneath and u-tilting into more stuff

it's kind of gay lololol

edit: what marsfool + jman said is true too... if sheik tries to beat your super low percent combos by mashing for like nair or bair, it's really good to u-throw u-smash if you're at super low percent too because you can trade and then do like the most ridiculous combo ever

I noticed tonight that whenever I shine on a platform I begin to fall through it, and as a result my jump cancels off platforms are always double jumps and the timing for waveshines is different. Is there any way to avoid this? It doesn't seem to matter how quickly I JC the shine, and the only way I've found to prevent myself from falling through is to go into a full crouch beforehand. What am I doing wrong?
