The perpetual trash fire known as Planet Earth(tm)
Well, I don't want to be that guy, But I got to ask

Since Pyra is Heavily Fire based Swordwoman, and Euden is apprantly also Fire Based Swordman, if Euden was in FP2, How do you think they go about making sure there's not too much Overlap

I assume they go heavy into the Dragon Transformation. Would love to have more takes on the Power up Gimmicks.
The thing that separates Euden from Pyra is the dragon transformation. So yes; to your point, Sakurai and the team will likely put more focus on that.

Skip the Euden and go straight to Midgardsormr. Alternatively, play up his fast combo abilities and throw in a gacha summon mechanic that brings out another character for one attack. Basically, randomized Zelda Guardian.

Or we could just do as Shroob Shroob says and use Mym instead. She's a dragon herself, so she represents the human/dragon partnership just fine.

I ask, What RPG Franchises do you guys think have a chance for FP2?
Dragalia Lost, Pokemon & to a lesser extent Elder Scrolls & Tales.

I have a weird history with how likely I think another Namco character is. I was on the “they’re in!” train before Pyra, but afterwards I have my doubts. But it could still happen.

I dunno I have a feeling FPV2 will close out with two never before represented genres. Or at least one
Please god. cries in FPS fan

I just feel bad for whatever RPG character we get next.

They could have the sickest moveset known to Smash and you'd just hear "ANOTHER ANIME SWORDSMAN?????!!!!!!!!!!" screamed over and over again.
Jokes on them, we’re getting REALISTIC swordsman.

Not specifically smash related but hey

Pikmin 5

Hey pikmin was real and it wasn't that bad dangit!
Might actually do pretty well: while Pikmin's obviously not as famous as Pokemon; any mobile game with that intuitive gameplay, Nintendo's brand recognition and the family-friendly nature of Pikmin can certainly help it. I did a case study on Rayman mobile games a while back, and here are the most common review languages for Rayman Adventures:

1. Spanish (61K reviews)
2. English (51K)
3. Portuguese (44K)
4. Russian (38K)
5. French (21K)
6. Polish (11K)
7. German (9K)
8. Italian (8K)
9. Arabic (7K)
10. Indonesian (6K)
And Mario Kart Tour:

1. Spanish (310K reviews)
2. English (289K)
3. French (86K)
4. Portuguese (72K)
5. German (37K)
6. Japanese (20K)
7. Italian (20K)
8. Dutch (8K)
9. Indonesian (6K)
10. Russian (6K) (Sidenote, the most critical review language with 5K+; with a 1/2 of Russian reviews being 1 star. Might be due to Nintendo of Russia's... controversial boss, might be due to "childish" stereotypes about Nintendo prevalent there. Maybe both.)
What I wanna particularily highlight here are languages like Russian, Arabic and Indonesian - partly since there are people there who are interested in the standard console IPs like Rayman and Pikmin, partly since it's entirely feasible that since Niantic presumably localized Pokemon Go into those languages they'd do the same with Pikmin Go. Long story short, Pikmin Go is likely to have at least a decent time worldwide.

I do wonder how Dragalia is doing from a financial standpoint.

I've heard it's not doing well, and as someone who's friends with someone who works on the game, his only response he can say is "It's doing crap".

lol
Time to restart the Sensor Tower test / wood chipper! I love doing this:

50K downloads this past February, which isn't the most but is not entirely shabby either. Especially considering the limited release. Some absolutely great keywords show up here too, like "Crunchyroll", "Fate" and "emulator". It's not doing as great as it could've, that I would argue, but I don't think it's on death's door either.

I don't know about Arlo, but my excitement for mobile games from franchises I like would be lesser just because... it's mobile stuff. If there was hypothetically a Smash game on mobile my reaction probably wouldn't be anything bigger than... oh, ok I guess.

Maybe that's all there is to it.

What's funny is the really the only JRPG character that I can think of that I personally would look forward to the most from that genre is what most of the Smash fanbase would probably hate is another Pokemon.

But I guess it would all depend on the Gen/Pokemon.

Oh and speaking of game preservation....

There was a problem fetching the tweet

It’s just a rumor for now, but I can see it happening.

time to either mod my PS3... or just sell it. I’m sure emulation has come a long way anyway

You know, in order to spice up discussion a little, I want to steer the topic towards something I've played recently.

Introducing Mike ******** Haggar.

He is the type of mayor that puts matters into his own hands....literally. He beats up criminals and has wrestling experience.

I know people are skeptical of Capcom these days but man it would be awesome if we got someone like this guy.

Sony: “why would anyone play something with good gameplay if the graphics aren’t cutting edge”

Based on this, it isn't that surprising.
Imagine deadass using Gran Turismo as a parameter for why people would revisit old games and making a decision based on that.

To be clear, I'm not bashing on that series, it's just that racing isn't exactly the first genre that comes forward when most people mention game preservation.

the more I hear about the people in charge of PlayStation the less I want one.

games like Mario world, Spyro, castlevania symphony of the night and FF6 and 9 are all trash apparently, they're just to outdated to interest the modern gamer, oh wait didn't FF7r sell well? that had no relation to FF7 at all. nobody bought resident evil 2 remake because they like RE2 either..

Snake Man's stage from Metal Blade Solid
but also imagine the irony if F-Zero returns... as a mobile game. I’d have to see HOW they handle it it better not be a ****ing gacha
You've seen Captain Falcon. Now get ready for:
  • Baby Captain Falcon
  • Metal Captain Falcon
  • Captain Falcon (Musician)
  • Captain Falcon (Hakama)
  • Captain Falcon (Santa)
  • Captain Falcon (Happi)
  • Ice Captain Falcon
  • Captain Falcon (Classic)
  • Builder Captain Falcon
  • Captain Falcon (Chef)
  • Captain Falcon (Swimwear)
  • Captain Falcon (SNES)
  • Captain Falcon (Sunshine)
  • Captain Falcon (Halloween)
  • Captain Falcon (Racing)
  • Gold Captain Falcon
...

They made so many of these that the joke ran its course. Now it's just sad. The idea of a dedicated racing alt for the character is mildly amusing though.

Assuming this is real...

I sincerely hope some of their decisions and choice of words come to bite back hard. Knowing my luck, that'll be far from happening, but good lord, these sentences are bringing me back to when realism/graphics bias gave me a prejudice towards realistic video games.

The fact that Mike Haggar has not been playable in a single SF game DESPITE being the only true Final Fight mainstay hurts my soul. Final Fight 1,2,3 Mighty, Revenge, Streetwise, literally playable in all of them.

and don't give me the Zangief excuse, we have like over Ten Shotos across the Entire SF series, having two muscular grapplers like Zangief and Haggar woulnd't hurt a litttle.

Im more of a Sir Arthur guy (R.I.P) but i would welcome Haggar as THE Beat Em Up/Final Fight character, and probably me second choice for a Capcom Character, but i wouldn't be surprised if he was snubbed in favor of Cody, since it's clear he is the Director Darling of the Final Fight franchise.

You're right, but only barely tbh.

KI:U: 1.35mil units

Miitopia: 1.18mil units

But then let's cheat and throw another Mii ip into the mix, Tomodachi Life, which sold a whopping 6.63 million units, the 11th highest selling game on the system.

I think personally speaking, Nintendo has more faith in the Mii ip than a revival of an old IP that sold very well no doubt, but still, for a game released 9 years ago now, and for as big a game it was, those numbers are kinda sad tbh, while Miitopia launched only 2~ years before the end of the 3DS's life.
True enough, but Kid Icarus Uprising also released before the 3DS was really selling that well, so I'm hoping that Nintendo will try to have the game sell better by selling it to the Switch audience..and maybe advertising it better too..

Here's a fun discussion topic. What franchises or games have you been introduced to due to Smash speculation?

Ill say this, I have been shown the light in terms of Falcom. While Trails of the Sky and Cold Steel are on my backburner, Ys is fun. Like, real fun. And the soundtrack slaps. Honestly so glad I had it introduced to me.

It’s Falcom for me as well. It was actually before I became active on this site — during FP1 speculation, there was a fake leak that claimed Estelle would be included in post-pass 1 DLC. I brought the leak up with one of my IRL friends who’d played Trails, made a comment about “idk who this person is though”, and he introduced me to Trails in the Sky. I’ve been hooked on Trails and Ys ever since, and am eagerly awaiting the Switch release of Cold Steel IV.

Same here.
I knew about Ys and Trails before, but not much beyond their existence. But started playing these series thanks to Smash speculation.

Similar case with Ace Attorney. I knew about AA but never felt interest for the games until speculation sparked my curiosity.

This has been said like three times now, but Ys. I heard the name Falcom tossed around a couple times as a darkhorse candidate, asked about it, and got some songs to listen to. I am a very music-driven person, so that pretty much got me hooked in time to cement myself as the resident Ys guy by the time the Falcom rumor swung back around.

Aside from that, Atelier. I had heard about it before, but that fake leak that involved Ryza brought it back to my attention. Almost finished with the first Atelier Ryza now, actually.

I remember people before were discussing how Ganondorf should be reworked completely to not be a Captain falcon clone and giving his old moveset to Black shadow however Ganondorf has improved now
But
how about Sonic? it doesn’t feel he has improved or reworked in any way would it be a good idea if Mighty take on his old moveset and Sonic gets reworked on his new moveset?
I mean, Sonic could use some new moves, but he's not a clone, so it's not as big a deal.

While on Black Shadow and Ganondorf:

even then Black Shadow shouldn’t get ALL of Dorf’s old moveset. He should have some moves 100% original for him, like the electric chains he used in one GX cutscene
If nothing else, Ganondorf's FS wouldn't make much sense for Black Shadow. :p
