Question irt the Namco roulette.

I remember that Lloyd got an additional copyright on his Mii outfit, I assume the series creator? Did Gil or Heihachi do the same?
Checking back at the site. Link's here, since my screencap input's gone kaput for some reason. Gil just credits Bamco, as does Heihachi. Perhaps they just didn't want to credit Fujishima for the design. I'll have to look a bit deeper, though; Not sure if Bandai-Namco has to keep going to him every time they use Lloyd in something, or if they just heavily consulted him for the Mii.

Though, I imagine Nintendo just wants us all to thank the Nintendo name/brand for said games.
Which is another problem with Nintendo's actions (hoo boy there's a laundry list of them, as with any organization really): they don't really have people on the ground floor communicating with ordinary people. Not just hardcore fans of theirs, but also ordinary average Joes and Janes that buy their systems. Not just competitive scenes, but also fan games and other projects.

The main problem might be that Nintendo assumes "people buying their systems and games = people accepting Nintendo's own stipulations without any objections". Thing is, now people - specifically hardcore fans - are much more aware of what goes on behind the scenes (whether they ghost potential partners for anything relating to competitive, shut down another fangame or anything else relating to that), so Nintendo's a bit of an awkward spot right now as a result.

Hopefully recent events have caused some changes, but they'd need to get more people on the ground and actually interact with people.

I just feel bad for whatever RPG character we get next.

They could have the sickest moveset known to Smash and you'd just hear "ANOTHER ANIME SWORDSMAN?????!!!!!!!!!!" screamed over and over again.
As a filthy anime swordsman main who will use the Buster Sword's reach to the fullest constantly, I wouldn't mind. As long as it's not someone whose attacks are even quicker or a nemesis that has a ridicolously long katana. :4pacman:

It feels like at this point the final two fighters will be of three categories.

-Character that gets in due to the unfortunate timing of their game in relation to Ultimate's release (Realistically with major titles, only a Gen 8 Pokémon comes to mind)

-Character from a company that required long development and/or negotiations ala Steve (hard to think of one, but there are hypotheticals that would take time to conceptualize)

-Character that's effectively a bonus; one negotiated with during or near the end of the first pass and are getting into Smash essentially because Nintendo needed another pass to get the likes of Min Min, Steve, and Pyra/Mythra in and they were convenient to include (hardest to predict given the first and third party potential)

I now have another possible reason why I think CP10 will be in May.

- A DLC character has never been released on the same day they're revealed. And I doubt this will change for the last two fighters.

That would mean if CP10 was revealed in the supposed E3 Direct then it would likely be around mid June the Sakurai Presents and release would be, which would be longer than the wait between Min Min and Steve. And I doubt the last two are as complex as Min Min or Steve as it's clear a pattern for DLC fighter order is that the devs starts with the most complex characters first(Hero, Min Min, and Steve). The only way I see the next fighter releasing in June is if the trailer for CP10 is in May with a Sakurai Presents happening after the E3 Direct.

Who would be most likely in a may reveal, depending on like games coming out?

I mean, did you forget the first wave of DLC, where we got a trailer dropped and then waited like 2 months between their release?

I agree that we'll probably get the Sakurai presents very shortly after their reveal, but it's also likely we could wait too.

Something tells me we wouldn't get the boss theme sadly lol.
Tbh the lyrics are kinda hard to understand so maybe they would be able to add it without problems lol

Also I just found GaMetal uploaded a really cool cover of SMT IV boss battle theme four days ago and I think some people here know this channel so I'm gonna share it.

Don't worry I'll stop my SMT shilling for now.

While, switching between different armors is cool, You're essentially asking for at least 3 character models for one character here if he were a stance character.
I was still referring to the weapon swap mechanic. The armours would be used in place of normal pallet swaps since the weapon swap mechanic would rely on changing X's colors as an indicator.

So actually it'd be 8 character models and they'd all be cosmetic...

I don't think that's too much of a problem though since it was done for Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings. It just wouldn't be feasible for DLC.

After doing some thinking though, I think you're right; X shouldn't have the buster mechanic to begin with. The reason being that while the Mega Buster is fine as a normal attack due to its three shot limit, the X Buster has no such limit, and can be rapid fired at all times, and giving X a normal like that would probably either be overpowered, or non-functional depending on implementation. Which sucks because that means it'd have to be a Neutral Special that forces you to plant your feet whenever you use it (though maybe you could move as you charge your buster), or allows you to move but is super awkward in doing so.

I suppose that does make sense though. You do tend to stop and rapid fire with Mega Man X (aside from boss fights, where you just dodge and use the charge shot) while Mega Man does do a fair bit of running around since enemies take less hits on average and/or force you to avoid them. I guess in that sense it would be fine if the buster was a Neutral Special that was nearly identical to Fox's Laser, but also allowed you to hold the button to charge it, and you could run around while charging. It'd be a unique move as the only one (that I can remember) that allows you to do that, and it could be fairly useful since Mega Man X does have clearly different phases with his charged X Buster shots that Mega Man does not (well, he kinda does, but they're not as easy to spot and I don't think they actually do more damage than the uncharged shots). You might even be able to take it a step further and allow him to charge all of his Special Moves this way (like, charging long enough allows you to use the charged version of any of your Special Moves). That could be pretty neat.

The relative wait after a Fighter Reveal with the Sakurai presents and formal release date is one of the easier variables for Nintendo adjust accordingly. Them doing a big Nintendo direct on 6/3 with the Sakurai video on 6/8 and the fighter releasing on 6/10 is something easily within their wheelhouse and three months between fighters is hardly out of step with what we've seen before.

The x-factor is if they're willing to buck the June reveal trend outright and just do a big Nintendo Direct in May just to ahead of the other major gaming news. Possible given the company's tendency to zig when other ones zag, but something like would potentially be dependent on when/how third parties associated with the Switch would want their stuff show off and if they'd prefer greater temporal synergy with E3 presentations.

I doubt a Direct in May mainly because the last one included a lot of stuff coming out in May. Nintendo covered that month's bases pretty well. By necessity, a May Direct would have to go over all of that again to remind people of stuff they already covered. It would be far simpler to just wait until June and not have that overlap.

Yeah, as noted it would be a significant change and it could be that even with the decreased E3/summer presentations that Nintendo would still prefer to have a major spotlight on their library at the same time. While the April/May wait would certainly feel long, there's probably things like indie directs and game related presentations (see Pokémon) to fill up some of the calendar.

I wonder if people would complain about him, since he's a JRPG character without a sword. He's literally iconic for punching god in the face.
Tbh I think a good chunk of people wouldn't... because they wouldn't know anything about SMT, so at first they wouldn't know he's a JRPG character lol.

Then others would start making "Is this Persona?" memes.

Others would recognize him or SMT as a series but complain because "it's a niche series", "too obscure" and more.

but me?

I'd be happy as heck

I just hope that if he's added they use Kaneko's art style, because it has so much personality and just fits his character perfectly.

Can this like happen? Please? I mean hold out for a second. Square was collaborating with Smash and several of their newer games got promoted via spirit events since Hero and hey, we got Sephiroth. Sophia from P5S recently got a spirit, yes? Hmmm? Hmmmmm?

K so

CP10 reveal in late April
Presentation early May
CP11 reveal around E3
Final presentation August

I’m kinda backing month theory now
Funny thing was when Sephiroth when confirmed, I predicted May/June & August/September for the last two before it was noticed that each DLC character was released on a different month.

Gonna be straight with ya.

As the guy who pushed the idea of May, even I'm dead set in it being June. If they have the character ready by May, they'll just save it for June as part of their big news dump.

I feel like an April reveal is a bit too soon. That'd only be two months after Pyra's release, which feels a bit to compact. Maybe a May Direct, since there's a notable chance that Nintendo doesn't show up at E3 this year. Still, as ALongWistfulSquiggle ALongWistfulSquiggle mentioned, that runs the risk of overlap with all the May releases detailed in the last direct. I feel like if we get a May release, it'd be cutting it close, like how Piranha Plant released at the very end of January but is largely treated as a February release.

I would give Scorpion even better chances to get in before we get someone from Red Dead.

And even then Scorpion is unlikely.

I swear, we're getting that Dante/Morgan rumor brought up every three hours...
I mean, I get it.

But it's an easy as hell trick to pull off.

Step 1: Make a ton of tweets in advance, but leave them hidden
Step 2: Wait
Step 3: When thing happens, unhide tweet, tweet showing the original date of posting and not when it was unhidden
Step 4: Prophet

Where’d it even come from anyway? Not that it has any chance in hell of happening, Red Dead doesn’t seem to want to touch Nintendo with a 10 foot pole

The only reason why I'd think Red Dead would take priority over GTA is if Sakurai had an easier time making John Marston/Arthur Morgan "dance" than the GTA protagonists.

Or...they just do the release towards the end of the month shortly after the reveal, or they do a final smash ultimate direct if this is the end. I think that guessing May to me feels like wishful thinking, I doubt that Nintendo would want to miss out on that easy E3 direct filler of a smash reveal with a quick Sakurai Presents teaser. This also would mean that in this timeline Smash would probably miss out on E3. I can not see Smash not being at E3 given that it has had reveals around E3 every time it could since...Smash 4. Even when E3 was cancelled and Nintendo was doing nothing in June, Min Min still came out in June. I would bet on June for a reveal.
