Guide to making your own desktop, originally written for JCVD, reposted here cuz i figured some of you all might be interested:
I can help you all you want :D. Alright so, first things first, you probably want to find some wallpapers that you like....I'm not going to lie here, your best bets are /wg/ and /w/, I also have a few anime style wallpapers (2 of them are similar to my Kagano Ai in that they're black and white with a single color). I also have another one that i can upload and pm to you that's pretty sexy.
As a side note, i dunno if you've ever been to these places, but it's VERY nsfw. I wouldn't reccomend going anywhere but /w/ or /wg/, especially if you've never been there lol.
The dock is called RocketDock, which houses programs, and the icons themselves are from a pack called 'lucid icons', which you can find on deviantART. It's pretty easy to install rocketdock, and once you've downloaded the skins you copy the folder in, right click on each icon, select the "icon settings" option and replace each icon with what you want.
The clock, system information, and hard-disk information are all from a program called Rainmeter. You can either use Rainmeter 1.x.x , which comes with the Enigma skin as the default, but in my opinion is harder to customize, or you can go with 0.14.1, which is what I use. The skins are from Simplemeter, Dark_meter, and Anywhere, all of which can be found at Customize.org.
Last but not least, the itunes skin is the "silent night" itunes theme from itunes-skins.com. Just make sure itunes is closed and updated to the latest version, download and install it, you're good to go.
I don't want to sound like an *******, but if you're not an artist or enjoy spending a lot of time doing this kind of stuff, i'd suggest not delving into this. I have a friend who spent like 15 1/2 hours trying to get a 'cool' desktop and ended up getting nowhere because he didn't have 'it'. if you know what I mean.
I can write a specfic guide if you want me to basically redo my desktop for you, if you're interested in copying it more or less, or you can just experiment
.
