In order to keep the combo of news flowing, I'd like to add on to Bio's and Veril's announcements with my own. With the coming of new support for Brawl+ and a whole new version to stay with us for the months to come, I'd like to bring up that in the near future that the current home for Brawl+ shall be redone in a glorious fashion to accommodate Brawl+ 7.0 Gold.

With this website, multiple forms of content shall be maintained, such as news, updates, patches, and various DLC Stages will be featured with the redone Brawl+ website. Events and Tourneys will also be found on this redone site and will be part of a "Smash Mods" web-ring.

So be sure to look forward to that as well guys. See you all soon.

So are you guys going to do something about Charizard before gold release? I'd like to know because Charizard players, which is only a few.., want some changes done. Drastic or not, rarely anyone even plays Charizard so even if there was a drastic change, no one would even know except those who actually play them.

Guru just made a post about Charizard. It's well written and it has a very good point. We made some suggestions in the Charizard thread so please consider something for Charizard as this character lacks in about everything he does.
Yet again it gets ignored. Well.. maybe it's in the Part 2 section of Veril's post.

I'm starting to understand why people stopped playing Brawl+. I have been playing Brawl+ since its early stages (then left and came back) and let the backroom run its course the way it wanted without ever suggesting anything. I was there basically to support them by playing and testing. Now, given the chance as it may be a long while before another update, the suggestions I have get ignored. I get that you guys probably get swarmed with suggestions but who ever really looks at Charizard? Many of you just shrug it off.

The only character I really play now is Charizard but there are things holding him back which makes him lose a lot of potential. Don't give me that "buffing PT as a whole" excuse as its obvious but how many people actually play PT or even let alone Charizard? Do you want to know why? Because Charizard is ****. Anything Charizard can do, you'll find other characters doing better. I don't care how Charizard places in tournies, I just want him to be fun without his "strengths" always being hindered.

Now, depending on the answer, honestly, I'll decide whether or not I should just quit Brawl+ as a whole now. I've lost a lot of interest in Brawl+ already and this will decide whether or not I should even care about it anymore.

This was not meant to be read as a flame/insult in any way. I actually just want to know if you guys are doing anything with him at all and possibly have a bit of discussion about Charizard specifically.

The Sakurai angle is a special angle that causes the knockback angle to progressively increase as the knockback distance increases. The angle starts around 20° but increases as % does. This results in an effective "automatic survival DI" when applied to KOing or gimping moves. When this is applied to moves that combo, it actually can help, and it is important for avoiding techs on reaction. So jabs having the sakurai angle aren't a problem. When a move like Bowser's f-smash has this angle, clearly we have an issue.
This will be the 3rd time asking this question. How was this tested?

I did not test this personally, however, Blind did partially confirm by taking a move with the sakurai angle and replacing it with a 40° angle.

Blinds analysis:

The knockback angle for the 40° hit was notably different in the high% launch angle than the Sakurai angle variant was.

Whether all moves work identically for the sakurai angle... don't know. Whether the range actually is as low as 20°, I'm also not 100% certain. That ascertation is based around the effects I've observed using Jigglypuff's fair, where very low% hits will force a tech IN PLACE with no DI. It doesn't make sense to me with a move with reasonable knockback would function like that if it had a static 40° angle. While I know moves with lower angles can be teched in place, and that SDI/DI can enable this even with higher angle moves...

The sakurai angle is weird and understudied. That I will admit. The fact is that the apparent effective angle (for survivability) is altered, and that it induces trips at non-tumble %. Its a weird and nebulous angle, whereas a 40 or 30° angle is predictable.

The amount of testing needed to determine the exact effect of the sakurai angle given the moves it effects is daunting, and I have focused my efforts elsewhere. We aren't removing the sakurai angle from all moves, by any stretch of the imagination, only select KOing moves. The entanglements of knockback and angle of trajectory make this especially difficult.

Edit: I'm going to be on the IRC for a very short period of time, than I'm going to sequester myself to work. Magus I would really like to speak with you about this, and if you could pop on the irc that would be great.

Its probably been asked many times, but since you're going gold with it, is there any chance we might have a changelist in the future?

Update sounds great guys. Hope it turns out as good as it sounds.

Hope Charizard gets changed. Guru's ideas were good!

*Edit*

Yes, a changelist! =D

*Edit 2*

Were any of the new stages added in by chance? Changed Rumble Falls, GHZ, etc?

Is it going to be the gold version?

I'm going to have a smash fest at night, it would be so good to have it :)

Not to shamelessly plug, but you should definitely package my gold Brawl+ title screen in there. Or at the very least, make a gold Brawl+ title screen that may be better. Sure it's just aesthetic, but it'd be cool.

Veril, where are you?

We tried out the camera fixes, and they seem good. Problem is changing some of the pacs made them too big for the game to read, so it did a soft freeze.

Be sure to edit everything in all at once.

Camera fixes that causes freezing will probably be on characters whom cannot afford to have those values changed anyway (without it freezing of course). Meaning, those characters have rather strict filesize limits.

Modifying those values on unedited .PACs will probably yield the same result (btw those edits were done in PSA 0.2.1, the one that doesn't randomly increase filesize]. From what I heard this problem can be rectified by using Riivolution.

If that's the case, then back-up (both DVD and USB/SD) users can just replace the .PAC file onto the ISO directly.

Also Count could you please tell me which characters froze the game?

The way around the filesize increase, aside from just hexxing in the proper values, is to use Save As/overwrite, and only save once each time the program is open. So if you save something, close the program and reopen.

What time is it over in New York right now? I checked google and it said it was 5pm already. It's 2pm where I'm at, so I'm just curious. The sooner for you, the sooner the update I guess, haha.
