hey Axe, when does that upB glitch thingy work you pulled off against Forwards Fox on YS

I heard it has to clink with an equal priority move, so what are some examples except a Jolt that gets shined back?

PS: I saw your set against Wobbles from AZ Foggle of Fun Winner's Semifinals.
I'd try autocanceling SH bairs with Falco against ICs sideB recovery when he comes at a heigth where you don't know if he goes for the ledge or the stage.
I admit I don't have much experience against ICs but you definitely got ****ed by this lol

I think

Fireballs (mario or luigi)
Some Pills
Link/Y.Link's Boomerang (not all the time though, I think you have to hit the boomerang with the ending of your second quick attack, which means you really have to read your opponent and not get hit by a bomb or something instead)

Jigglypuff's jab (random knowledge ftw!)
Thunder Jolt

That's all I know

lol yeah dude, wobbles messed me up so bad, i was like crap... this freakin sux lol! but i'll try again next time ^^ thank you for the advice man, i'll definately try it out

the up-b super wavedash works on A LOT of attacks (you can do it off of almost all character's jabs), but you can pretty much do it off of anything with low priority... i WISH you could do it off of falco's lasers lol. but you can do it off of MOST projectiles, including samus's missles (homing or strong missle, also an uncharged shot).

Firstly....

Axe - Congrats and good stuff on your insanely **** combo vid. **** was outrageously good.

Ummm quick question about how you utilize quick attack to quickly edgeguard and stuff.

... How do you do it, how do you know all the angles and ****. Is it just through experience alone? And you have any tips to help improve it?

I have a question...

Is there anyway for Pika to not get shield grabbed when attacking a shield with nair/uair directly? (ie no going behind, no spacing the aerial out of grab range)

I was thinking dtilt or neutral taps after the attack, but I still have no clue.

rapid neutral a can work, but characters can still shieldgrab you before you can rapid a. If they're slow at all it will push characters back, though some can then still punish you with their fsmash/dsmash. Usually if I'm in that situation I'll just try to dash away or through them asap, pika's dash is pretty quick and you might be able to punish a whiffed grab.

is there a good way to shffl w/ pika cause I can't seem to get the timing down. I can do it with everyone else but not pika.
EDIT: I can do it the most with nair but Not with the others. Also is there much use for pika's fair?

So generally I'm not supposed to be trying to prevent the shield grab with my attacks and shield pressure them, rather, I should prevent shield grabs with pika's speed? I play Falco, so I'm not used to the no shield pressure thing =\.

Jab/dtilt is a viable shield-pressure option, yes, but the problem is you can't really do much from either (except the occasional techchase off of dtilt, but most chars won't have to tech). If you successfully run away after, though, you can potentially punish their oos punish attempts. Example, you nair into their shield then dash away. They grab and whiff, so you dash back and grab them. Or they whiff so you wd back and fsmash. Or you just dash away then jump in with another aerial.

Generally you're advised to not land with an aerial directly in front of your opponent with pika because you don't have many options from the position as opposed to your opponent. You don't have shine for pressure, your jab doesn't really lead to anything, and most other options come out too slow or are too laggy / cover too little. Landing behind them reduces many of the oos options for most characters, while it gives you the oppoertunity to rising uair (combo starter) or a safe getaway.

lol thanks man ^^

well as far as the up-b angles and stuff... i don't really have any direct advice lol. what i did was practice the basics first. such as... sweetspotting the edge when on top of the stage (i probably didn't explain that right lol). but you know... just the basic things.

after i felt pretty comfortable sweetspotting the edge with the up-b, i started to look for more unique things. every now and then, i'd go to training mode and try doing my up-b at different angles on different stages, and seeing if i can pull off an edge cancel or something. if i find that something works, i'll then try it in a real match against my friends. what you see in my combo video is the results of a lot of experimenting with up-b angles haha. it took forever to come up with.

as far as the shield question... i always try to avoid landing directly in front of someone's shield. but if the situation comes up...

if your back is facing your opponent, doing a falling neutral to a rising uair usually stops their shield grab, but i'm not 100% sure if it's really safe or not, i might just be getting lucky. if i approach them with a shffl and hit their shield while facing them, i usually either rapid jab, down tilt, down smash, or spot dodge

when i try to down tilt though, i usually get shield grabbed. when i try the down smash, for some reason, they block the neutral AND the entire downsmash, then shield grab me when it's over. maybe the downsmash makes them unable to drop their shield???? idk.

with a rapid jab, i usually can get it off, but after all the jabs, i usually still get grabbed/smashed anyways since it doesn't cancel into anything except another jab.

you can suprisingly pull off a spot dodge pretty safely, i've done it quite a few times. if i KNOW for a 100% fact that they're gonna try to shield grab me, then i'll usually spot dodge, and i can usually pull it off. usually spot dodge --> down smash

but just saying again, it's not very often that i'll get into that kind of situation

From personal experience, not often. Usually if i nair the front of someone's shield, i'm going to get grabbed. And i think actually my most common response is downdodge (or rapid jab if they're peach, her dsmash hurts). I have pulled off the dash away dash back grab, but downdodge grab tends to connect more often (though it can leave you vulnerable).

If you are interrupted on the second part of quick attack (up-b) with a (low priorty?) projectile then it works. I suck at explaining things haha.

he's probably just going to say "practice practice practice"

also, utilt is very useful but in far fewer situations than uair.

it's not 100% interchangeable with it, either. Sometimes utilt is optimal because at the right time, it can lead to a grab which can lead to a stock in the right situation. Also, utilt hits in front of Pika, uair [to hit a grounded opponent] doesn't in the same way.

Yep toasty pretty much covered it.

I sometimes use u-tilt to start a rising uair actually since its basically a rising uair (+ whatever combo after) + utilt damage. I also use utilt sometimes against floaties. I think that its stupid though, because I could be using usmash instead.

watch out for the sourspot of up-tilt(just kidding it doesn't really change anything) it changes the kill % of j-puff by 12% or so, I decayed it and tested on a DIless jigglypuff. And the very tip has less knockback.

If you want to check in go to yoshi's story and check

thanks for the advice

btw i just pulled the edgecancels off on YS a few times, but its ridiculously hard for me.
I guess I'll leave that to the Pika-mains =P

Other than that im confident with my Pika, it got pretty fast =D
Now i gotta train it against other human oppents so i can beat Gary

WHay are the edgecancels on yoshi for? I know what they are but are you trying to cancel as fast pichu? I don't know what they are for because I don't play as pikachu

I mean when you hang on the ledge, let go and upB up-->towards the stage and edgecancel the upB on one of the side platforms.

I remember seeing Chu F-throw Peaches a lot. And then try to combo Fair. Is this strategy legit? Or is it just an example of Azen and Cort failing?

I like utilt for shield pressure and as a delayed hit. Works well against people who like to jump out of their shield and when you think someone's going to grab you. It has decent priority and although it covers the same area as usmash effectively, it sets up combos (or forces a tech on low percent fastfallers) and has more hitstun in the non-'sweetspot' area to usmash than usmsah does. It's situational, but useless.

OverB is situational and useless other than recovery heh. IMO at least. I went through a month where I was like "i'm going to use overB offensively and find out how effective it really is." It didn't go well. Mostly what I found, you can use it as an edgeguard against spacies if you know they have to (or just will) recover at a certain angle, and you can uthrow->overB against spacies for the funnies. You caaaaaan ledgecancel it, but good luck with that.

I knew all of that stuff pikachu's is useless for offence fully charged can go over a falcon just standing, the side-B when I discover it myself I found the only useful place is jungle japes. fully charge it on a side platform on the edge faceing the stage and it will canel on the top platform.

Pichu's is stonger, lower(garder to avoid), faster, more damage, and mindgames people really bad when used smart.

If anyone says pikachu's side-B cancel is legit then why isn't pichu's perfect up-B it's faster and more flexible in everyway.

have you ever tryed to DD around and randomlly charge it? works for pichu and because your movement stops when you hit someone.

Oh it's way to legit for edge gaurd I think I used it vs a random falcon I ran off and charged it up and side-B ***** him as pichu. Ahh good times.

pichu's is better.

Hey I got a great idea for pichu that MAY work for pikachu. I know as PICHU you can't be grabed when jabing by peach or zedla giving you help when pressureing them. Well what about d-tilt? pichu's/pikachu's frame should be lower to the ground so it could help **** sheilds better than some thought like you can't be grabed out of it

the funny thing is, i almost never get grabbed out of rapid jabbing a shield. in fact, i think the only time that i DO get grabbed is when i stop jabbing. i've found it safer to just continue jabbing until they're pushed far enough out of grab range. however.... if they roll behind you, that kinda sux lol. i usually get punished like that

just wanted to share this with everyone, i've never seen any other pikachu use it, but i've been doing something a little different lately:

against light characters (i was specifically doing this against my friend's MARTH), at very low percents (i could do this at 0%), you can pull off somewhat of a "chaingrab" if they DI the correct way (which they usually do)

what i do is grab the marth at 0% (on FD), wait a second, then U-throw. i wait a little bit because i want them to DI either left or right. so let's say they DI to the right, and you guys are on the left side of the stage:

what you can do is dash -> SH Uair (tailspike forward) -> grab again, then repeat. 0%, i was able to pull it off while fighting my friend like 3 or 4 times in a row. and when they're at a bit higher of damage, you can do Uthrow -> tailspike -> up smash. hopefully i can get some actual footage of me doing this sometime soon, but i urge you guys to try to do this against any marth players, and it probably works on a lot of lighter characters. i'm willing to bet you can do this pretty well against characters like sheik or another pikachu.

........or do other pikachu players already do this, but i just haven't seen it yet?

Yeah that sounds pretty interesting. If I get a grab at 0% I usually just fthrow and try to dash->regrab. Works on semi floaties for like, 2 grabs usually, then I'll just uthrow/dthrow and try to combo.

That sound so legit axe i am dying to try it out on a person.

Would it not work if they tech rolled away? Or would you be grabbing them before they are allowed to tech. having troubles visualizing it :(

I think the point is they're at a low enough percent so it doesn't knock them over, therefore they can't tech.
