Dead. *****es.
I do fun Captain Falcon as well.
he is very fun to fun.

now for my question: You are so close to a character, and they throw a progectile at you, and you counter.

Since its a progictile the stun jacket is not equipped right?(even though you are so close you hit them with the counter)

Wait, so they are hit by the counter or not? My understanding is that if they werent hit, they wear the stun jacket, but im not sure.

good for you. If you are going to fun Ganon you should just fun C. Falcon instead ;)

lol Only ppl that have seen it for the first time think that it has a "magical" range. But yes the grabbing hit box moves as Marth moves.

Now technically when you pivot grab you aren't supposed to slide at all. That's the reverse dash grab. Reverse dash grab allows you to move forwards while grabbing behind yourself. Pivot grab is you just turn around and grab behind you and you don't continue sliding and is done after your initial dash.

Reverse dash grabbing or pivot grabbing is mainly used to counter head on approaches. Dash attacks get easily countered by this, and if you time it correctly you can even catch MK out of his tornado. Only used to punish an obvious approach though, and offensively uses are kinda more as a surprise/mindgame tactic. Ex. Common one is run at opponent, they spot dodge, the reverse dash grab catches them out of their animation.

This type of grabbing is not "crucial" to Marth's game but it is a very useful thing to know.

Marth doesn't have a boost pivot grab :(. However, his reverse dash grab does make him slide quite a bit
okay... ic

so... whats a pivot grab? when you're stationary and you turn around? or when you dash one way and then hit the d-stick other way and initiate a grab?

and reverse dash grab? when you time a pivot grab wrong? and then iniate start up dash frames and grab which is a dash grab only on the other way of original face?

when i mean sliding... i mean sliding away*

and then whats a boost pivot grab?

iirc projectiles don't make the stun jacket work - only windboxes like DDD's inhale and then regular attacks were you don't hit your opponent

My question:

Is fastfall uair to utilt a known technique/combo? And if so, is it able to be DI'd out of? (I'm just curious since the only thing I have is wifi and that's horrible to test things)

For the death grab on Falco, is it possible to do 3 fthrows? I've been playing around with this lately, and I think it might be possible. I tried it on a level 9 Falco to see if it would airdodge out, and I've managed to make 3 fthrows work. Anyone else tried this?

At lower percents, it's not able to be DI-ed out of for middleweights and higher.

Lightweights can probably DI out of it with relatively little effort.

I'm pretty sure they can DI away to stop the chain after the first or second Fthrow. This deathgrab usually never works anyway due to how peculiarly spaced the spacie has to be for it to work.

woah... hold on there, man. Seriously calm down. It's the internetz, take your time when you make your posts. This failure to clearly communicate what you are asking or trying to say is starting to bug me. So from now on write your post, re-read it outloud, then post (if it sounds good).

I'll try to answer what you are asking to the best of my understanding for now.

I'll describe how each is like:

Pivot grab: You do an initial dash and then you suddenly halt and grab in the opposite direction you were heading. (I believe this can only be done out of your initial dash)

Reverse dash grab: Can be done in both a full out sprint or an initial dash. You run, and then while still keeping your dash momentum you grab in the opposite direction you were running. (basically a pivot grab but still keeping your momentum from the dash and thus "sliding")

Boost grab: Something like doing a dash attack and then immediately grabbing. Gives your dash grab extra range. Not all characters gain a boost.
*Note* You may see people do a reverse boost grab (I believe that's what it's called, boost pivot grab seems incorrect). Best character to see this with is Falco. Go to training mode or something, then dash attack and immediately grab in the opposite direction. The inputs are exactly like doing a Dash cancelled u-smash (if you do the c-stick down and z+up on analog stick combination)
Again not all characters gain a boost.

Oh and what's a d-stick? ;)

I have a question on DS OoS: are there any frames in between where marth has a hurtbox? That is, if you do dolphin slash out of shield do you go STRAIGHT (absolutely zero frames of vulnerability) from shielding to the invincibility frames of ds?

Marth is invincible during the first 5 frames of DS. If you have tap jump on you can ds OoS without your hurbox coming out at all. The attack comes out on frame 5, your last frame of invincibility which will basically hit them so they will no longer be attacking(they'll go into the "I'm hit" animation) the frame before you're no longer invincible. The rest of ds, however, you have hurtboxes >>.

And yes, it's amazing. You go from frame 0 holding up your shield and frame 1 DS'ing with invincibility frames.

is it better to use DS often to rack up damage, or save it until you're sure you can score a KO with it to keep it from being diminished?

You use it to punish. It will do both.
well what i meant was should i purposefully avoid using it to punish at lower percents when i know it won't score me a kill (and opt to use something else if i can, like DB). that way i can keep it refreshed for a kill. or should i just use it every chance i get (which is what it seems like you're telling me)? thanks.

Just use it whenever itll hit, anytime itll hit. After 2 dancing blades itll be at almost at full knockback again anyways, so yeah lol.

Use it whenever you have a good option to use it, i.e. a shielded attack that can be punished only by a quick move. Otherwise, don't go out of your way to use it.

Hey, I'm not new to Marth or the smash boards, I've read guides and tips and stuff, practice with some pretty good players (like Flying Dutchman, maybe you know him) but i can't seem to get my spike right. I know how to spike but it's just not even near 100% of the attemps. My first tourny is in the Christmas holiday and I really want to know how to spike then.

Any tips for me?

It's just spacing. Practice until you get an instinctive feel for the distance.

My question is similar: how often should the dair spike be used?

I would say his grab range. And the fact that he isn't is a masked ball with bat wings that has tilts faster then Marths jabs and only has to press A to win
