1) who's the best Marth atm?
Most people consider Neo the best Brawl Marth. I like MikeHaze.

2) how does MikeHaze peform the technique from 00:43 - 00:45 in this video? i'm not sure how to describe it. it's similar to moon walking :p

the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuvUSjFfTvk
Here's how it's done:

While holding down the A (attack) button: walk (don't run), and repeatedly hit diagonal (up and back) from the direction you are walking on your C-Stick.

It's called "Pivot Walking." I call it Haze Walking or Haze Trotting, because I like to ride his meat he utilizes it the best.

If he's telling the truth then learn what you are doing the same and figure out how to do mix ups to throw people off guard.

Zeus, Im partial to Neo's style of play myself.

Why is Neo considered the best brawl marth? I haven't seen him play in a match in over 5 months and I've heard nothing about his successes this past year. Mikehaze has beaten the top pros and has won major tourneys. Why do people still think neo is better??
Neo missed his plane to the last huge tournament. He also doesn't get recorded very often.

there's this from a few months ago

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2374359

usually if you ask for "best marth" you're just going to get a meatride answer anyway, most wc people say mike, most ec people say neo. as of now I think it's a really pointless question.

I said most, and I think it should be irrelevant to any new marth anyway, you have a lot to learn from both of them, as well as many others.

I agree. I generally look for Mike Haze and Roy_R videos as reference tools; it's hard to find Neo's matches, and Mike and Roy have more crazy styles.

Who is the best Marth? Almost w/o a doubt NEO. Just watch how they play. NEO actually makes use of Marth's options basically as well as possible. Mike's style is based almost entirely on reads and punishing, and just in general out-thinking his opponent. NEO plays Marth. MikeHaze plays MikeHaze.

To put this to rest, Neo and MikeHAZE already agreed that they're relatively close in skill, Neo being slightly better. there was a thread really, let this die now.

So what makes Neo slightly better? What do you mean by slightly? Has Neo won more brawl tourneys? Well is it because he's been in the Smash/Brawl scene for longer?

Don't pivot walk with the c-stick, it takes you out of your game and makes it hard to do anything else. Just keep tilting lightly back and forward.

Lol.

But yeah, anyways it's not like you can say one is better than the other and claim that it's a fact, since it's all opinion.

I've seen many more videos of Mikehaze, and he's fun to watch XD.

Shaya for best Marth.

@ElectricSmile

It also helps to watch a replay of yourself. You'll probably notice a lot of things you should not have done, or things you should have done. If you can't find anything, then you may want to check out some videos of some Marth players or such and compare it to your replay to find common mistakes or predictable patterns in your gameplay :).

i'm playing marth for a while but i suck when i'm up vs Falco and Diddy Kong
Somebody got advice?
Falco:
First of all, watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jjv6_WSdfA
This helped me oodles and boodles against Falcos.
Some basic tips are just to:
Bait and punish his phantasm.
Powershield and jump over lazers.
Use grabs; Falco takes hard punishment if he gets grabbed by Marth.
Space. His range is not exceptional.
If he's trying to chain-grab you, Dolphin Slash; it stops him.
Practice. I really learned it when I played Captain Palpi a lot.

Diddy:
Steal his bananas with aerials (this works for bananas on the ground and in the air).
Glide toss his bananas.
Speed hug the edge a lot. It's easy to see his recovery coming.
Don't go off of the edge too much.

What can I do after shielding the first hit of Link's F-Smash? Normally I keep shielding and take a hefty amount of shield damage. The answer is probably just DS but I haven't had a chance to try it.

Thanks.

EDIT: I did a bit of testing... It's not too hard to Powershield both, and I think you can just jump after you block the first one. However, I'd like to know if there's anything else. Because Link's F-smash seems to have roughly the same range as ours, I doubt DS or grab are possible when perfectly spaced...

Its not really appropriate for Links to use F-Smash, just shield and punish with whatever you feel is best in the situation as always with Marth.

I realise now that I asked a bit of a stupid question ^_^;

I'm pretty sure that most Links use F-Smash as a kill move - though for stocks later in the match? For what it's worth I find Links directing F-Smashes at me.

I got a bit ahead of myself and did some more testing before I read your response though. If you PS the first hit of Link's F-Smash it can be punished easily with Dancing Blade, Jab, D-tilt, and probably a whole host of other things. If you regular shield it it pushes you back just enough for the second hit, which pushes you back further. Even with more lag than Marth's F-Smash I don't think it's punishable after that, and it drains at least half your shield.

The fact it comes out on frame 15 means I'm probably jumping into it or something, and need to work on Powershielding.

I guess I'll rephrase my question: If I mess up and regular shield a perfectly spaced Link F-Smash, am I screwed?

I'm not very good at this game heh >_> Tell me to stop if I'm not making sense.

Just keep your shield up and punish the cool down lag for the second slash then.

Check how far you are, if you dont think you can get in for a dancing blade or grab, pressure link with a spaced Fair/Nair. Once you get inside of link and they are under pressure, their game is pretty much shut down.
Link works at a medium distance to rack up damage and then tries to kill with Dair and sometime F-Smash.

Just a side note, if you want to learn a match better look up videos on that character on youtube. Just search for "Deva(Link) vs "and you should get some great stuff.

Hope this helps. Most I've ever typed.

It goes F-Throw -> F-Throw -> D-Throw -> D-Throw -> D-Throw -> F-Smash (Tipped)

You can cut out one of the Down Throws if you dont feel like adding the small amount of extra damage, but why would you?

Isn't that falco only? I thought that wolf was only 2 dthrow, fox was , and falco was 3.

Umm that's on the spacies 0.o
Its on pika as well, try in out in training, but in train you HAVE to do 2 d-throws because D-throw stales on the third and allows tipper.

@ C.J.

I havent tested them too much, but Im pretty sure its the same.

EDIT: Wolf is the only one who doesn't take 3. Wolf isnt in the category that fox or falco are in.

Training mode does not stale moves. Because of that, it makes the last throw put pikachu at 23% and out of range for the tipper. While in a normal brawl, pikachu would be at 21% and in the tipper range.

for pikachu, fthrow x2 > dthrow > fsmash definately works, i can't test anything else at the moment. i'm also pretty sure that fthrow > dair works. and if you can buffer it correctly, i've heard (and it seems like it would work, from what i've tested) that dthrow x10 > stutter-stepped fsmash from 0 works.

Hey.

I'm from the Ganon boards, just wondering if I could get some general advice on facing Marth. I'm sick of people going lol Ganon at me because I don't know how to fight Marth.

Honestly... The fight vs marth as Ganon is hopeless. Most I can tell you is to just run away/play defensly till he messes up, and punish. Dont aggro at all.

I like pokemon stadium.

I dislike the mine shaft/cliff transformation though, as it enforces vertical attacking which Marth has some notable weaknesses in.

All the other transformations and the platform positions are pretty good.
Like a full hop fair to hit someone, land on the platform, then dash off the platform to another fair for EXTREME FRAME ADVANTAGE.

Alot of characters have that vertical attack weak, but most don;t have Marth's Up-tilt. Unless you like saving it for a small surprise kill Shaya...<3
