I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
I guess I should probably also state that I was peripherally involved in Eggm's bracket dispute, and I suppose I should clear that whole thing up.

Eggm's complaint was that he was on JMan's side of the bracket instead of Hax's side of the bracket, when he thought it was pretty clear that he should be either the 2 or 3 seed and that Hax should be the other. I feel like there was some serious miscommunication or misunderstanding of how seeding works in regard to this situation, cause Alukard was trying to explain that he made Hax the 2 seed and Eggm the 3 seed. The issue here, is that regardless of which of them gets the 2 seed, they should be on the same side of the bracket if you're truly seeding like that and the 4th seed (most likely Swift) should be on JMan's side.

So basically, Eggm's argument was legit and the way Alukard was arguing back was faulty (he was saying Eggm was the 3 seed, in which case, HE STILL SHOULD'VE BEEN ON HAX'S SIDE OF THE BRACKET).

NOW, with that being said, this is a local tourney, with like, 20 people, so personally, I think that seeding top 4 that rigidly is overkill and that a less strict seeding is better (I would've seeded two skill groups and let tio randomly do the rest [top seeds: JMan, Swift, Eggm, Hax, high seeds: G$, Alukard, Spawn, Mogwai]). This way, there's still some seeding for competition sake without making seeding into a self fulfilling prophecy with the same players always playing each other tourney after tourney at the local level.

THIS

given our numbers and the frequency of these.....I say its a great idea. I would really like to hear your thoughts on this alukard and ultimately consider/end up doing this for the smaller local stuff. It really makes sense and provides a bit of variety and less work on your part it seems. Im not saying that your way is stupid but mogwai's plan seems like a positive tweak and something that will help everyone.

I know everyone is all like omglol rock bottom and **** but wes brings up a really good point about the actual semantics of the tourney so lets give this some attention too.

I agree with (third?) Mogwai and Swift's sentiments. I remember overhearing the heated debate regarding the seeding that happened previous to the incident, and humbly back up the less-strict seeding proposal.

I have a few things to say, though before I do that I just want to mention that I wish I could have gone to this, but unfortunately I don't have time to go to tournaments when I'm at college (and it's also 4 hours away).

1. If seeding is causing disputes, HAVE POOLS. Actually, have pools regardless. Did anyone here read AZ's thread about running tournaments and growing the scene? This was one of his major points. Pools give people more for their money and eliminate problems related to seeding (which may be biased without pools). They also don't make the tournament last longer if you schedule everything properly. Just replace an hour of friendlies with pools - if the pools are only for seeding, then they are pretty similar in the end. Back when Bailey ran tournaments at ToyWiz he did pools and that was always my favorite part of the tournament. Not only that but his tournaments always finished at a reasonable time because he replaced some friendlies time with pools time, and then we still got to play lots of friendlies because the tournament finished early. If he can do it, anyone can.

2. Why is there never a results thread for these in the tournament results forum? I've seen people talk about how the scene around here is dying yet I don't see any effort to change that. Simply having tournaments won't fix a dying scene - you need to give the tournaments more exposure and give people more incentive to attend. This means utilizing outlets that have more attention than simply a humongous thread on a regional board. If people see a results thread with good players and lots of activity, they will make more of an effort to attend the next one. Going back to the previous point, pools also encourage more people to come. It gives not-as-good players a reason to attend and when these people start showing up they will improve and hopefully stick with the scene.

3. This whole ordeal with Eggm and Hax sounds pretty silly, but the impression I've gotten from reading is that Eggm is sincerely sorry and regretful and Hax is just out to get revenge. Eggm has been around for a really long time and has done a lot for the community, from bringing several setups, to hosting tournaments, to driving vans full of EC people to big tournaments. We all have a lot to appreciate from Eggm and should let this one slide, especially considering how well he's handled the situation himself.

With a region that has the same several people at the top of the results a round robin finals should be instituted as well TBH. Plus this bypasses debates of poor seeding, easy brackets, etc, the best players make it reasonably close to the top no matter what, pitting them all against eachother is a true measure of who's the best competitor.

round robin finals sucks

it's a good way to kill all the excitement
Boring as **** for people to watch but who gives a ****? These are weak *** locals, it's way more fun for the players this way. Grand finals are never hype, winners are never hype, so **** it. Play more, have more sets, more accurate results. The players and the TO can decide how they want to run the tournament. Melee isn't played for the entertainment of onlookers.

lmfao I just heard what happened and I can't stop picturing it.
****ing hilarious.

Eggm - Throwing Hax like that is funny. I already thought you were a **** before this, but you don't deserve court troubles.

Hax - Lost a bit of respect for you for actin like one of those Sue-Happy Americans. "I got thrown and now I'm in pain." **** I've had worse happen to me and all I've done is suck it up and not give a ****. Your body will heal, and unless your dad owns his newspaper he wont be able to publish an article about his 15 year old son without running it by the higher-ups. Unless it's his own column, which in that case forget that previous statement.

You're going to laugh at this **** later, why not laugh at it now?
But whatever man, do your own thing. I'm not stopping you.

Out of curiosity though, what are you expecting eggm to pay for? Hospital bills for the hospital you didn't go to? The doctor you haven't seen?

I agree that if it gets worse you should press charges, though. ;)

Nintendude and MDZ with yet another skewed view of what went down. the word "sorry" can only go so far, I'm in the waiting room at the ER on my phone as we speak cause my symptoms have only gotten worse since it happened. I'm doing my best to not put Eggm in jail so suck my d*ck if you think I'm taking it too far. I checked in under the excuse that I tripped during a basketball game which Eggm should be EXTRERMELY thankful for. that doesn't change the fact however that I expect him to pay all the expenses he brought upon my family including transportation fees and all hospital fees. he is being exempt from any legal punishment this way so I don't want to hear sh*t from him

@mdz: you can't even go losing a tourney set without flipping a sh*t, if you ever got thrown 10 feet and landed on your head you would burn the guys house down. and my dad works for the UN and gets front page on the most famous newspaper in his country almost everyday, but I don't wanna sound like a f*ggot so let's just not get into that, just trust me when I say my dad has made, and ruined peoples lives

Alright so you're at the ER now. Good. Hope you find out nothin major is wrong with you.

So what I got is you got thrown for ******* around. It's ****ed up.
I'd expect him to cover my hospitals fees as well.

Just saw your edit:

What are you talkin about, by flippin a ****? I admit I get frustrated with how I play sometimes but I don't get pissed at the person for beating me. If I'm ever angry at a tournament it's at myself.

As well, I HAVE gotten thrown 10 feet, into fights, stabbed (wasn't deep, but still) and aside from my immediate reaction to fight back I haven't taken anyone to court and have sucked up all my injuries. So don't try to talk like you know how I would act when **** like that happens to me.

If what you say about your dad is true then I believe you.

You didn't get thrown 10 feet hax, now you are just exageratting and this is getting way out of hand. I'm glad you went to the hospital if you ACTUALLY need it. I hope everything is ok your end.
all I know it I was by the trash can when he grabbed me and I landed by the pile of comic books which sounds like 10 feet to me. i'll measure it next time im there i guess..

anyway i'm back and i had a concussion. they're saying no physical activity for a few weeks until i go to a follow-up visit to confirm that my symptoms are gone. they're saying another concussion within the near future would = permanent problems/death. for now i'm on motrin medication which should lessen the symptoms. also i have to withdraw from going snowboarding con mis amigos this winter which was gonna be mad fun

we had insurance on the trip to the ER which saves eggm about $1500

what eggm owes me:
*$19 taxi to the hospital
*$17 taxi home from the hospital
*$11 motrin prescription
*in about a month, i'll let him know how much the follow-up doctor costs (we don't have insurance for this).. estimate $250
*they're saying that after the follow-up doctor visits to a specialist may be necessary, idk how much this will be
*free entry to his weeklies as compensation

sounds very unfair to me with free entry to his weeklies being the only true compensation and the best-case scenario for eggm at this point but idc i'm not mean enough to put him behind bars

Well the way you worded stuff before strongly suggested you were looking for revenge, so it was a fair conclusion at the time. You sound much more reasonable now and I'm glad you are seeking medical help to find out if there's a problem. I hope all goes well for you. And yes, it is definitely reasonable to expect Eggm to pay all fees associated with this.

well it was the heat of the moment and i honestly think if he didn't drive away i would've done something crazy. i still think what im doing is crazy, he nearly killed me and i'm pretty much accepting his apology and getting free entry to his weeklies (big deal...) as compensation. im the nicest person ever

Dang, Hax. Concussions are no joke, that is some serious stuff. We probably should've made more of an effort to get you some medical help right after it happened. Hope you get better soon.
