How often do you get called selfish anyway? I mean... I've been single my whole life and noone's ever called me selfish for it... now a few rednecks have called me gay, but it's not like their opinions are worth anything, right?

I believe you're more sensible than selfish because even chasing girls to satisfy your sexual desires if vulgarly selfish for you are attempting to satisfy yourself with the hedonistic pursuit of women.

You believe that women slow you down, which I respect, but if you have fallen in love with a woman (at a later age) and you share similar characteristics, it wouldn't be insensible to stay in a relationship with said person.

If you're a teenager then being around girls if perhaps more selfish because one is enduring puberty with opportunistic hedonism.

If you feel homosexual feelings then I respect your feelings to the extent that you don't then become as selfish as your pairs of friends and start satisfying your sexual desires with men- but I'm not assuming that you're homosexual; I'm just stating this point.

It's just a word, really it need not connote "damaging" or what have you... Biological sex drive is going to be perceived as selfish, because it seems as if you're doing it only to pass on your genes, there are even some schools of thought that believe the human body is nothing more than a vessel to accomplish that very thing... so really, it's more or less not bad-selfish (or abnormal) to be sex-crazed (especially at that age). The perception of how bad it can be or get, does correlate to your own personal views and morals, of course.

It's not so much a selfish opinion as it is a generalization.

Not wanting to get involved with anyone because you have things that you want to do without being held back is not really "selfish," in my book. "Selfish" is when you already have someone in your life whom you suddenly decide to throw to the curb because that person is "slowing you down." But if that person hasn't entered your life yet, I don't think it would be selfish to remain uninvolved.

It's not really that selfish or naive. Having a relationship DOES restrict you quite a bit. That's not to say that the positive ramifications of a relationship don't outweigh said restrictions for some, but there ARE restrictions. Especially if you get married, you have to make every decision either with your spouse in mind, or directly with your spouse.

I also find it to be a little patronizing how you essentially said "Fine do what you want but eventually you'll be brought over to our side anyways". People change, yes, but that doesn't mean you should say that he's definitely going to change and therefore it's pointless to even think how he does now.
