"Aimlessness," as in having no purpose, no goals, no plans.
You said that it was "everyone's" goal to have a lifelong partner and to reproduce. This implies that those who do not do this ultimately fail at this goal, their goal, "everyone's" goal. My point is that it is not everyone's goal. That's all.
The issue is what people "strive for" in their lives. Not everyone strives for the same things because not everyone values the same things.
