  • Just testing the waters here: do any of these game concepts sound interesting?
    1. A platform fighter with diagonal air attacks, light/strong specials, and chargable throws
    2. A Lemmings-beat 'em up hybrid where you influence the other screen by attacking enemies and scenery
    3. A golf platformer (like Itchy & Scratchy on Game Boy, but good)
    4. A satirical simulation game where you have to decide what characters to add to a big crossover game
    5. A faux GBA/DS port for an existing game, featuring the same characters and similar locations, but 2D gameplay and a lot of subtle but odd differences, both to canon and gameplay.
    6. A mascot multiplayer dogfighting (with planes) game
    7. A Mother-like that emphasises the "scrappy group of weirdo kids' friendship" element over the "trauma and eldritch horror" element (which would be non-existant)
    8. A 3D platforming foot racer a la Rayman M with more mechanical depth
    9. A real time point-and-click with a "living" protagonist (capable of their own decisions) a la Pac-Man 2
    10. A linear 3D platformer (more Mario 3D World than Crash) with a character who can fling off walls like Mario Odyssey's Pokio (woodpecker) character.
    11. A sokoban puzzle game focused on mirrors, where certain objects will react to them in different ways.
I've joked before about how the modern Nickelodeon logo's backstory (redesigned because it looked too cluttered on a business card) sounds like something a Nicktoon villain would do - but as it turns out, its designer shares a name with one of the most iconic Nick villains.
take Oil Panic, add Waft, sprinkles in a tiny pinch of Rebel's Guard, and you've got First Fart.

Dang…I think I might be maining those eeediots
They seem to have the best moveset for me so far out of the ones we’ve seen. Still definitely interested in Reptar, though…

Okay, so it seems like Ren and Stimpy play alot more like Wario., which is perfect for me.
Aerials that cover their whole body much like PM or Ultimate NAir.
A DAirStrong similar to Wario's Ground Pound DAir in PM.
A DashStrong that uses a vehicle like Wario Bike which can also be comboed off of.
Even their Down Special is a hybrid of a Counter plus Wario Waft.

    I love this SO much.
Lizzie from Rampage's existence is kinda astonishing. She debuted only a few months after Samus as a female protagonist (villain protagonist in this case) in the same hypermacho gaming environment, but her gender isn't a surprise nor a personality/design trait: it's just told to you casually on the CSS and that's that!
    1. Turning Mario Kart into Nintendo Kart
    2. Localising Mother 3
    3. Nintendo buying back Rare
The Satanic trinity of terrible ideas Nintendo fans think they want.
Still can't believe Nick Brawl got a dual wielder swordfighter before Smash

They literally only have one swordfighter and he's still more unique on a conceptual level than 57% of Smash's swordies (I counted.)
Sometimes I like to Google oddly specific yet extremely obvious puns and see what shows up - there are way more dental-themed cartoon episodes titled "An Inconvenient Tooth" than I could've ever expected.
That axolotl from SMG4 is the ugliest thing I have ever laid eyes on. I thought they couldn't top the palm tree guy, but somehow they did.
I am so worried for NASB's post-launch future after those leaks.
Rhett: "I don't think this is a very smart thumbnail idea, Matt"
MatPat: "More clicks means more donations, buddy! Positivity gets people clicking!" lights cigar and adjusts monocole
Link: "No, we can't do that, people will think our cause isn't serio-"
Odd1sout: "Hush! you know this is a publicity stunt, right?"
Devil Odd1sout: "Hey, smile for the camera!"
Rhett: "Well, I guess charity work is more important than integrity..." shrugs

You joke but the idea of Odd1sout taking charity stuff just as publicity stunt seems worryingly fitting based on the few stuff I've seen of him.
This, my friends, is why I'm glad Nick got a proper platfighter instead of CN.

CN: "We need to cancel this project because kids nowadays aren't familiar with this IP"

Creator: "Then let's do reruns to get back the memori-"

The thing is, I don't think kids would be lost on anything if these classic shows aired reruns. Kids don't care about a 4:3 aspect ratio or animation cel dust particles - case in point, in the early 2010s I went to a boarding school with kids younger than me. (I was probably about 13 to 15 and the kids I shared residence with were about 7 to 10) At the time CN were rerunning Billy & Mandy and the Eds during school hours, and we got to watch CN at lunch because you know, boarding school, and the kids loved the classic shows just as much as Adventure Time and Regular Show.

In fact, there are fandoms forming online among younger generations for older cartoons - the Banana Splits horror movie got a lot of the FNAF audience into the original Banana Splits, a fandom that then grew even bigger with the release of Jellystone. If kids today can enjoy Hanna Barbera of all things, who's to say they won't enjoy a bit of Dexter's Lab or Fosters? To be fair, Boomerang US are rerunning the 90s and 2000s shows currently, so even if Tunes and Scooby are taking up a majority of the schedule there's still hope for these classics to be passed down by generations like those aforementioned IPs have been for decades - really it's the execs' call, but if I was in their shoes I'd put new Looney Tunes, Flintstones, and Scooby-Doo content on syndication to local and startup channels, then use Boomerang as nostalgic rerun heaven, allowing new concepts to run wild on main CN.
I've always found the logic of boycott culture, especially its more radical side, ridiculous - if a company exploits their employees, and enough people boycott to make a dent in their profits, that'll mean those employess will be paid less at best and will be out of a job at worst. All the company is gonna see is that the franchises you avoided buying aren't profitable anymore, and the companies that often get this response like EA and Activision are really infamous for killing series at their peak while refusing to sell them - humans being treated like humans is obviously more important than Spyro 4, but boycotts won't help either. True activism, making sure the head honchos understand the errors of their ways by being vocal in places where they will hear, will help everyone.
I generally do not like duplicate characters in games where characters are cosmetic... but I can make an exception for this lovely bunch
I will never understand why people like unlockable content in fighting games and shooters. Other genres like kart racers where characters are cosmetic I can understand, but in the internet age of spoilers; DLC; and viral marketing there's no room for unlockable characters and stages in games where each character plays different.

I feel like it gives you something to do. Something to work towards.

Although when it comes to fighting games I do prefer to have all the characters at least from the beginning.
HEY, YOU'RE PRETTY MATURE THAN I THOUGHT - GOOD GOING

Considering all the PaRappa songs were written in English by Japanese people, it's impressive that there's only one instance of bad grammar.
A small part of me hopes Daisy really is missing from Party Superstars so Nintendo will see the passion people have for her and start giving her bigger roles - Waluigi was absent from Kart 7 and because of backlash hasn't missed a Mario game where he could logically appear since, (and has become a lot more prominent in marketing) even if he has stayed as another multiplayer option.
If Crash got in Smash, I hope the Twinsanity tracks either aren't remixed or have remixed and original forms coexist - I really want to know how people who either don't play Crash or aren't familiar with the games between CTR and the renakes would react to this song:
I feel we're about to enter a golden age for licensed games. This past half-a-decade has had less licensed games than the 90s or 00s, but they've been so much better - and when studios realise getting talented devs to work on IPs they're passionate about is what sells a product, we'll get quality and quantity.
Garfield in Nick Brawl honestly feels like a no-brainer to me. The way Garfield funcitons as a comic strip, taking 5 or so running gags and finding new ways to subvert and spice them up every day, is absolutely perfect for a platform fighter and just how beloved/iconic Garfield is more than outweighs his current lack of Nick relevance.
The reason nobody takes gaming music seriously is because if a general music fan asks a gaming music enthusiast to show them an example of great gaming music they'll most likely play something that sounds like this:
That Shantae Mii Costume Tweet is so memorable to me. The fact that someone felt the need to comment "I'm so sorry, this is the worst thing that could've happened ):" to the character's creator who was celebrating her confirmation in spite of the smaller scale is both disgusting in its ungratefulness and harrowing in showing how hype culture can be internalised. "Sad cringe" if ever I've seen it.

I've never been much of a Shantae fan or supporter personally, but it genuinely did warm my heart to see how excited the creator was that she was getting in, even as a Mii Fighter. Like, I feel like it genuinely must be a truly magical feeling to know that something you did, something you made, touched so many people on a global scale that it was added to a celebration of the media you adore and chose to contribute to. I've always thought of Smash as a sort of celebration of gaming history, and seeing your creation (especially given Shantae is generally considered an indie title) as a part of that celebration must genuinely be such a heartwarming experience.

People for some reason like to project their thoughts or hatred of something with the creators of said stuff they like or dislike

Even this community tends to do It with Sakurai (as It is the case with the now infamous memes)

I've been working on my own game project - just conceptualisation for now - and, I've said this many times before but, having my characters in Smash in any form would be a nightmare to me. The main reasons are that I don't want my characters in a game that pushes season passes and I'd rather support smaller platfighters - but even if there were no season passes and Smash shared an equal non-monopolised spotlight to the likes of Zetterburn and SpongeBob, I could still name tens of reasons I don't want them in, possibly a hundred.

Maybe I'm just miserable and ungrateful-for-things-I'll-likely-never-have but my game's eventual fandom would be lucky to have my characters in the same Nintendo Direct as Smash, let alone a Spirit and Mii Costume. To me an honour would be being trusted with actually working on my childhood gaming heroes like Pac-Man and Wario, be it as guests or an indie-outsourced game, not having my characters appear in the same game as them.
