Alright, I think Kirby Air Riders is about to be the ultimate litmus test of whether or not Sakurai really is biased towards the games he made.
I think it’s likely for Donkey Kong Bananza to get a DLC collab with Mario Kart World
Okay I know I said I might be taking a break from this sight, but more accurately, I’m gonna be taking a break from all Smash-related threads and continue to write news articles.
Yeah, I think I’m gonna take a break from Smash speculation for a while (maybe even take a break from this site, too). There’s plenty of other things to look forward to right now, and I’m planning on getting the Mario Kart Switch 2 bundle for Christmas.
If Smash Ultimate were to get a Switch 2 Edition, then all I ask is that the DLC content is properly integrated into the base game.
12 hours to go, everyone…this is it.
Since we’re pretty much guaranteed to see Mario Kart in tomorrow’s Direct, here’s a last-minute idea for a gameplay mechanic I’d like to see:
- Whenever you hit an item box, you can hold up to three times at once (Attack, Defense, and Boost, respectively). The three item slots appear at the top left corner of the screen.
- L/R: Select item
- ZL: Use item
- And ZR is still used for drifting
- Coins not only slightly increase your top speed, but also contribute to Frenzies and Special Items
- Yellow Coins fill up a Frenzy meter under your item slots, which fills instantly when you grab a mysterious glowing object. Frenzies allow you to use items to your heart’s content, but unlike Frenzies in Tour, this time you’re not invincible in a Frenzy.
- Red Coins fill up a circular gauge at the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you’ve collected eight Red Coins, you are given a context-specific Special Item.
- Sometimes, a Coin of either color will appear in one of your item slots when you pick up an item box. Like in Tour, your character automatically picks up that Coin.
Funny how everything about Switch 2 had leaked EXCEPT the actual games. If nothing else, at least it’s keeping the surprise of whatever’s gonna be shown tomorrow.
Since today is Trans Day of Visibility, I just wanted to say…I would like to transition into a woman at some point, when I’m as safe to do so as possible.
I have never been more tired of anything than commercials whose only means of grabbing your attention are just “XD so random” followed by their smelly product. I don’t care if grabbing your attention is the point, it’s just…not funny anymore.
What do you guys think of my idea for a 3D Mario built around mouse controls?
Super Mario Canvas
A 3D platformer where Mario uses mouse controls to use the environment around him as his canvas (like drawing a temporary platform, for example). King Watinga is the main villain, using other robotic bugs as his army. A mode based on Mario Paint for SNES also appears as a side mode.

Eh, that was a pretty solid Direct. It was nice to see Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life come back, at least.
Does Arcade Archives have any 3D arcade games on their service?
You guys know how the Topis from Ice Climber were originally seals in the Japanese version, but were changed to yeti-like creatures out of concerns of seal clubbing? If Ice Climbers ever got a reboot of some sort, I think the seals should be a collectible that you rescue in each level, kind of like Waddle Dees in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
I’m officially at the point where I’ve run out of things to speculate about the next Smash game…hopefully, the Switch 2 Direct will at least keep my mind busy with the next Mario Kart game.
I dreamt last night that I got my hands on a Switch 2. I guess that’s my reminder that the Direct is over two weeks from now.
I’m starting to think Smash fans are pretty much “executive meddling” levels of tone deaf when it comes to speculation.
I just thought of something: Sm4sh ended with 58 fighters after DLC, and Ultimate launched with 76 fighters (including Echoes) before DLC. Therefore, I think a reasonable balance for the next game would be to launch with about 67 fighters.

I’ve been thinking about Hayashi’s “Japanese hamburger” analogy in regards to Ninja Gaiden 3 when talking about a Japanese-born game franchise trying to appeal to the West.
And honestly…I think that sort of analogy can apply towards Smash speculation, too. With how USA-centric most of the speculation scene is, it says to me that a lot of Smash fans only want the series to be nothing but a Japanese hamburger instead of letting Sakurai and Nintendo cook their own meals.
You know how KOF XV added msuic from other SNK games to its DJ Station through free updates? I think that's how I'd like to see music DLC in Smash Bros. rather than buying separate music packs.
Pro tip for anyone with a Switch and NSO: turn on your phone’s hot spot mode if you want to play online while you’re out and about. I tried it for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe earlier today during a walk in the nearby park and it worked surprisingly well.
I think in theory, having multiple developers and teams do different kinds of games is the ideal way out churn out games based on any IP, whether they be based on a video game, movie, TV show, etc.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe the 3D World style in Mario Maker 2 was originally supposed to be DLC in Mario Maker 1, considering it's the only wholly new gameplay style in Mario Maker 2.

Honestly, I’m hoping that the next game goes back to the Brawl style of character reveals (i.e. revealing both veterans and newcomers on the website periodically, and then saving the big reveals for things like Directs). I also kinda hope they reveal the characters in each Fighters pass ahead of time, as unlikely as that sounds.
Honestly, after Gen 10 hits the shelves, I hope TPC drops the normal release scheduling and gives the mainline games even more time to cook.
