So I've been thinking...if Smash Bros. ever gets a FromSoftware character, who'd they pick?
Immediately Obvious Picks:
Immediately Obvious Picks:
- Chosen Undead: The obvious pick from the moment Dark Souls: Remastered was announced for Switch. Dark Souls was immensely influential in its genre, and while there are other characters in this game that could easily be added to the game (I remember a rumor that Knight Artorias of all characters was being added once), it feels like Sakurai's "heroes first" pattern for games seems to take precedent (Though at times that gets bent like with Min Min ["Everyone in ARMS is the protagonist"] and Kazuya [He's pretty much a villain now but he started as a hero]).
- The Tarnished: Another big example, and one that could feel more "at home" with Smash. Elden Ring is no doubt a massive evolution for the genre and brings a lot more fun tools to the table. Especially with the Tarnished Edition coming to Switch, it feels like we have another big-shot here from the franchise.
- The Bloodsworn: The spiritual successor to arguably one of the biggest GOAT games in history, Bloodborne, has apparently taken the Bayonetta route and become a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive (for now, probably). So on the one hand it feels likely that the Bloodsworn would be added as a promotional pick for the game, and let's be real, this would be the closest we'd ever get to the Good Hunter in Smash proper.
- Wolf/Sekiro: This wouldn't be too odd, despite Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice not being on a Nintendo platform. It stands out pretty well on its own in comparison to other FromSoftware franchises.
- Nineball or Raven: Armored Core is in a similar boat, but Bowser Jr. is our only "mechanical pilot" character, if you catch my drift. A gigantic mecha seems like a perfect way to freshen up the franchise in my eyes.
- The Good Hunter: Now this. THIS. Would be the jawdropper. Because of Sony's iron grip on the franchise it feels like Bloodborne is forever stuck on the PS4...but again, Bloodborne is one of the GOAT games in history. The thought of the Good Hunter hacking Bowser up like he's common prey is something to behold, I'm sure.
