I think part of the reason I can give NASB1 more leeway on prop moves than Smash, aside from it starring cartoons, is because NASB1 is clearly meant to be - to some extent - a "training wheels" game, meant to introduce kids to how platform fighters work, and to me, Mr. Game & Watch and Villager were both instrumental in introducing me to how platfighters work because I could clearly figure out which button does "the key" or "the turnips" compared to punches and kicks.
