Honestly, I’m hoping that the next game goes back to the Brawl style of character reveals (i.e. revealing both veterans and newcomers on the website periodically, and then saving the big reveals for things like Directs). I also kinda hope they reveal the characters in each Fighters pass ahead of time, as unlikely as that sounds.

I think some sort of trading card mechanic would be a good compromise between the respective ideas of bringing back Trophies and Spirits. They could be like Spirits in terms of giving you different effects, and Trophies in terms of being collectibles with brief blurbs about the respective character(s).

I had a dream last night that I was playing the next Smash game and one of the songs was a remix medley between the N64 Sherbet Land theme and the Double Dash Sherbet Land theme, with the latter in the tune of its final lap version.

My mother and I just discovered that our coolant has been leaking since September 2024. We noticed because I noticed that my ceiling was leaking and fumes had been running through our vents. When my mother called the maintenance people about it back in September, they didn’t do anything about it until October…and then in January this year, we started smelling those exact same fumes again. The maintenance people insisted it was no problem even though it clearly was.

Because the maintenance people couldn’t be assed to actually fix anything, the fumes persisted and my mother and I could still smell them. Then I noticed the leak in my ceiling and that’s how we realized that coolant was leaking. We then decided to send the maintenance people pictures of the leak so they can actually DO something. In the meantime, we’re staying in a hotel overnight.

Let’s say that the next Smash game launches with 60-65 characters. That means roughly:

45 veterans
15 unique newcomers
5 Echo Fighters

That would be between what Smash 4 ended on (58 fighters) and what Smash Ultimate launched with (76 fighters, including Echo Fighters).

More base game newcomers than what Ultimate launched with
Veterans getting reworked movesets
More balance between single and multiplayer content
Rollback netcode

My top 5 favorite Tour courses in 8 Deluxe:

Squeaky Clean Sprint
- The most creative course in the entire game, with plenty of hidden shortcuts to boot. Probably my favorite course in the entire series.
Ninja Hideaway
- Plenty of alternate paths to the point of truly feeling like Mario’s platforming roots
Singapore Speedway
- Probably the best city course in the game purely for how varied its laps are and because its aesthetics make it feel like a proper race course
Athens Dash
- The second best city course IMO, because it feels like you’re going on an adventure throughout Greece
Piranha Plant Cove
- The only non-city course to have unique routes on each lap. Admittedly the weakest of the five courses on this list, but still a good, solid track.

I am hoping that these five tracks are the standard for new courses in the next Mario Kart game: courses with unique and varied laps and plentiful shortcuts / alternate paths that truly embrace their creative themes.

What do you think the next Smash is going to be able to pull off with the Switch 2 technology? 8-player Smash Run on an expanded map with all fighters being able to interact with each other? A more expansive Adventure Mode with bigger levels? Certain newcomer ideas that were held back by technical limitations getting a second chance here? Maybe not anything along the lines of 16-player Smash, since that would likely become an unplayable mess.

I’ve seen some speculation that the next Mario Kart, based on the long road we saw in the snippet, will have cross-country races. At the very least, I can see a “cross-country” mode as a spiritual successor to Mission Mode from DS.

I’ve actually been thinking of something; you guys remember Luke from Street Fighter? He was the last DLC character in Street Fighter V before making his proper debut in Street Fighter VI, where he was meant to debut originally.

I guess what I’m saying is, it would be novel if Ultimate got one last DLC newcomer who was backported from the next Smash game as a teaser for the next Smash game.

With how much of a darling that both Metaphor and Persona 3 Reload were for Atlus, both of them being their fastest-selling titles, I could see them getting representation in the next Smash game in some form. Maybe Metaphor will get a DLC fighter with or without a Switch 2 port? After all, the lack of a Persona 5 Switch port in 2019 didn’t stop Joker from being the first character revealed for Fighters Pass Vol. 1.
