If Smash started on the NES or SNES, I can gaurantee that the leadup to Smash 64 would treat Pikachu as the Jonesy/Steve figure.

When I watched the Switch 2 trailer, I thought the "mouse" was supposed to be ice skates, and thought that Nintendo were just suddenly on an ice skating kick and thought ice skates were the future. Which is like... not on-character as much as flanderised, but also makes more sense than quite a few prior Nintendo gimmicks (probably just because it's basically just attributing a different origin to the same gimmick lmao)

the whole "Radiator Springs in Mario Kart" thing got me thinking about how Nintendo has been influenced by Disney, and how that is a possible inspiration given that the gap in prestiege between Cars and other Pixar films basically only exists on the internet, and that led me to think about how Cars is a way more likely KH world than people think for that reason.... uhhhh, and then that lead me to a rabbit hole revealing that Cars was cut from KH3. Kachow.

I've made it very clear that I'm not a fan of Sakurai's overall game design and aesthetic style, but one cool thing he has historically done and is present in most of his games is being one of the first devs to really embrace "so retro" - so much so that he did "so retro" before it was even retro.

Tetris DS feels like it crossed the timestream from the world where the N64 was a Jaguar-level disaster and Nintendo became a retro brand name held by like 7 different companies, sometimes two at the same time.

I'm going down a YouTube Kids Mario rabbithole, but like completely harmless-at-worst and decent-eductational-content-at-best YouTube Kids videos, and I like how the "just Google "Mario character starting with letter"" approach leds to really obscure characters like the Ziggy Rabbids and Ostro getting love.
