I think that because the logic behind "Mario as the first Nintendo rep" is basically "he's the most iconic, everyone knows him, he's the mascot", that should go further and Mario representation should prioritise Kart in this weird context, since that is well... the most iconic and well-known Nintendo series, not Mario the platformers.
