i was about to post about how proud i am of having nominated the expired cow, the rtc character between all threads with the lowest chance and want, getting 0s in both chance and want from all participants, but i found out that mvs rtc has multiple characters who nobody bothered to rate so technically they beat the expired cow - with the first to claim such a prestiege being larry david.

i watched two multi-hour video essays about air bud yesterday, and something that stuck in my mind is that when the real air bud lost one of his paws, miramax wanted to turn into an inspirational image for kids, but disney just wanted to replace the dog.

that is cartoonishy evil, but like, in the purple pie-man sense, not the skeletor sense. technically nobody got harmed, but they just made the world marginally worse for no real reason. the guy who did that is probably still getting invited to the happy ending dance party.

The NASB2 story mode is good if repetitive gameplay-wise, and I think it suffers majorly from a lack of character interaction (even if it is surprising just how much they squeezed in there coming off of NASB1), but these go so hard that it might actually make it the best story mode in a multiplayer game ever.

The idea of a character like Rocko or Squidward inexplicably gaining the ability to majorly damage a god in one hit because the multiverse is in danger is awesome and hilarious at the same time, and no amount of reused out-of-context episode quotes or weapon animations choppily edited to look vaguely like a punch changes that.

Using the DK Bongos is probably the worst thing I've ever done willingly to my hands (keep in mind that I have 2000+ hours in NASB1), Donkey Konga works way better in every way with shoulder buttons on the GCN controller, but I also think they're one of the best things Nintendo ever made.

i remember reading ages ago, possibly around the time the movie came out, that the "according to all known laws of aviation" quote was coined by jack black and that it was included in bee movie as a weird cryptic marketing ploy for kung fu panda, but i cannot find any proof that was a thing.

People will ask why "Smash Clones" aren't more "original" as if Smash isn't a game where you can play as obvious pastiches of Ellen Ripley, Rocky Balboa, Astro Boy, Alan Tracy, King Kong, Muttley, and Snake Plisskin as well as literal French literary icon Arsène Lupin, and the most requested Smash characters don't include equally-as-obvious pastiches of the Tazmanian Devil, Boyacky, Chuck E. Cheese, and the webcomic Helvetica that only 7 people read.

Keep in mind, I do think summarising these characters as just "pastiches" is reductive, all of them are in some way an original concept (even Actual Arsène Lupin from Books) and don't have to be either, but that's the point I'm trying to make.

it's so funny how the wii sports reboot is being judged like an esport where playercounts matter remotely whatsoever. not that playercounts (should) matter at all for anything that isn't a battle royale, but still, there's a level of comedy to people trying to "dead game" or "the rise and fall" ****ing wii sports

I'm kinda mixed on Koopa Troopa in Smash - I think the moveset could be stellar if done right, but compared to Goomba it feels like there's an easier trap of feeling generic and like their moveset could be applied to any other Mario character (same issue I have with Toad).

Bah Bah as an attack instead of a taunt is essential.

I'm not saying he's likely, I'm certainly not saying this is a Callie & Marie situation where he's a lock and nobody even considers him in passing, (I wouldn't even consider him as much as 20% likely), but what I am saying is that - unless Smash takes a major change in direction - he is probably the most likely Western 3P that isn't an indie or owned by a rival console manufacturer.

It's really cool how arguably the first proper animated cartoon star (in the sense of having a unique personality and not being based on an existing source material), Gertie the Dinosaur, is female. I'm not gonna say that Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) is particularly woke, simply refering to a non-anthro animal as a "she" isn't a big deal even for the time AFAIK, but a historically male-character-dominated medium's first star being a woman is really cool.

Maybe this is just me projecting since I've come to hate them, but I do wonder if Amiibos could prove problematic should indie games get full playable roles in Smash. Like, the biggest indie candidates for Smash (Cuphead, Shovel Knight, Shantae) are already pretty big on merchandising, and one already has Amiibos, but on the other hand, Toby Fox is known to be against Undertale being percieved as a "brand" (which makes me wonder why he approved of Sans in Smash at all in hindsight) and indie devs tend to lean left - even those that aren't hard left are critical of consumerism - and it's not uncommon to see a lack of any physical merchandise being used as a selling point for indies.
