People using the classic Sonic games in any side of the "what tone should Sonic be" race is ridiculous because they're 16-bit video games. Even games from that period that had complex stories and lengthy dialog leave a lot up to the imagination.

OK, so imagine: Cross-series stage cameos.
If Smash was to have a "universal alt costume" like the evil costumes in NASB2 and CNPTEXL (or I guess, if you count NPC costumes, the polygons in Smash 64 and PSASBR), "so retro" voxel alts seems like a good one to go for. Not sure how Steve would handle it though, maybe a limited colour palette
ok so the pokemon newspaper comic is the kamp koral conspiracy theory but real.
I don't think the Rhythm Heaven character in Smash should be Wandering Samurai or Karate Joe, because their themes are well-trodden and they couldn't work as composites - but I don't think an RH character inherently has to be a composite like Yuka or Barista. MC Adore with a rap/musician moveset or Lumbearjack with an axe moveset would be pristine. Hell, I wouldn't mind Dog Ninja as a duel-wielder swordsman if it needs to be an edgy Japanese warrior.
Wait, pocket calculators weren't a thing until 1970?

So is Shadow Generations just a Bowser's Fury type thing?
Also, I never realised until now that Shadow's run cycle is kinda... dainty and feminine? Maybe I've just been too obsessed with the public domain and now I see everything in 1920s-era stereotypes.
Something funny I realised while looking up info about MissingNo is that it's actually... kind of a vaguely cohesive character? At least by glitch standards. It's found in water and one of its only moves is Water Gun, it's classified as a bird and the other move is Sky Attack while one of its forms is Aerodactyl's skeleton, and it clones your items in RB while it clones yourself in Yellow - there's 3 very solid character traits supported by multiple elements of the glitch: it's a bird, it's aquatic, and it has cloning powers.

I don't get the "Game Freak take notes" sentiment with Palworld, isn't everything in this game that doesn't involve sweatshops or guns already in Legends Arceus? Like, I think Palworld has real time battles, but I'd argue turn-based gameplay is just an inseperable element of the Pokemon franchise in the same way that "not having human slavery" is.

Callie and Marie are really obvious locks for the next Smash, and I have no clue why they are never brought up, even in a negative light, in speculation. It's equivalent to if nobody was discussing or asking for Bowser between 64 and Melee.
early-2000s kids will say "THIS IS PROOF THAT THE GAMING PRESS IS CORRUPT AND BIASED!" and then the screencap is a really mundane, harmless warm take like "Rayman 3 was a little underwhelming as a sequel, but still good in its own right." from 2007.
If Melee had more dev time, from an actual speculative standpoint and not a check-out-my-cool-mod-pack-guise perspective, it'd probably just be 4 more clones and also Little Mac or solo Charizard or something.

I used to be on the "You shouldn't add female/black/e.t.c characters just because they're female/black/e.t.c." train for crossovers until I realised how weird it is that wanting to have a villain just for being a villain or a sidekick just for being a sidekick is considered acceptable and not adding a female or minority character for the exact same reason.
They should've renamed Palworld to Chompchompworld for the European market

I'm kinda tempted to an alternate trophies list for SSBU, where each character not in gameplay has to have at least one official 3D model (with exceptions made for early sprite-based games and stuff like Paper Mario) - I'd probably do it running off of the assumption that Nintendo has all the old DKC/Yoshi's Story/e.t.c. pre-rendered models in their vault, and reuse trophies from Melee..
This is gonna sound really petty, but I feel I'd probably be gassing up NASB2 more if people weren't acting like it renders the first game irrelevant or the only reason to go back to the first one is the cut characters.
My favourite piece of weird-Mario-lore-with-really-major-implications-that-is-never-discussed-again is easily the Super Happy Tree. I think the idea that matured Yoshis are inherently depressed unless they have a garishly late-90s-kidcore antidep-agent-spewing fruit plant in their proximity is very fascinating.
Just got Windjammers 2. Why does this game take place in exactly 2003?
The only Smash character who isn't just a function is Lucas, because he lives in a communist village.
Gonna save up to buy a second, modded Switch off of Etsy for HDR. Looking forward to it.
