People complaining about Pokémon having kid protagonists is kinda missing the point, but honestly an age selection feature or spin off about being a gym leader would be kinda cool (though the "aging with the audience" BS should stay dead in the 2000s for the most part)
Sonic Origins not including Chaotix or the GG games because they're "not the original story" is kinda why I find distinguishing "main games" from "side games" silly for series that don't focus on story. That and that it can often lead to characters getting the short end of the stick because they're assigned as a "spin off character".

I feel part of the reason kid-styled horror characters like Huggy Wuggy and Cartoon Cat gain so much traction with actual kids is because you don't really get many played-straight kids' mascots in the veins of Chuck E. Cheese or Mr. Potato Head anymore in Western media, and those that remain have undergone (figuratively and literally) radical redesigns since their debut, so the horror characters are really the closest you can get to that sickly-sweet-but-distinctly-American aesthetic and personality in a modern character.
Can't really explain how Siren Head got popular with kids though. That one's baffling.

Speaking as someone who loves him some scrimbley bimbleys, it really annoys me how Smash fans dismiss any Activision or especially Ubisoft character who isn't Crash or Rayman respectively as "needing to come after" at best.

Honestly I kinda wish NASB had a more unified musical style instead of trying to replicate the shows style for most stages - more specifically the sort of slightly-techno 16-bit-adjacent synth rock style the generic and Turtles music has. I really like the cohesion every character sharing a victory theme gives the wild and juxtaposition-heavy roster, and I feel a shared music style would've given NASB a bit of a "classic licensed game" flare where it feels almost like a gamified version of the show(s) instead of a game based on them.

I've been playing Fall Guys, and honestly I think it does the whole "no skill gap" thing way better than Nintendo's first party releases do - there's literally no mechanics, let alone deep ones, it's equivalent to a literal children's party game and I love it.
Once I saw someone say they were "disturbed to their core" by someone not wanting Ganondorf's moveset changed.

My stance on non-game characters in Smash is that I don't mind them, but they need to be Shrek and Goku - no more, no less, no one else. If you have one, you need the other.
Honestly I can't really wrap my head around why Tetromino isn't playable in Smash yet. They've had Tetris content since Brawl and it's a "character" who would please both old-school "celebration of Nintendo" fans and newer "celebration of gaming" fans. Feels weird that they don't want to go a step further with Tetris content, especially with Sakurai's weird obsession with game sales.
I feel Hasbro has a better library of characters for a fighting game than Mattel. The He-Man and Barbie universes could both lend themselves to really fun movesets, but the rest of Mattel's IP library, for the most part, either revolves around vehicles (Hot Wheels, Thomas) or I imagine would have a lot of moveset overlap with Barbie characters (Polly Pocket, Monster High)
Namco-era Smash has simultaniously set the bar comically high and comically low for platform fighters, especially ones based on existing IPs - on one hand, a game not having 5 licensed songs per stage or a story mode with fully voiced pre-rendered cutscenes is considered a dealbreaker, but on the other hand "we will pay attention to the community when making balance patches" or "we have functioning netcode" can be a selling point.

I'm fine with people obsessing over the Once-Ler, and I'm fine with people making the Once-Ler smooch himself from the past, but it annoys me that his fandom never once considered to just make their own hipster young adult human versions of the other Dr. Suess characters like Illumination did before jumping straight to the time travel self-cest.
