Sandra[my girlfriend] has lots of good smash habits, but she refuses to let anyone complement her or help her get better.
>____>;;
So its hard to convince her of anything related to actually PLAYING smash, nevermind actually competing. *le sigh*.

I got plenty of girls here at college that like to play smash with me though lol.
>_> Jealousy as a motivator for smash? Good idea or bad idea?

Hay this is Matt's girlfriend and I go to tournaments because I like to go. I used to play a lot, and I'm trying to get back into playing it. I also go cause I like supporting him <: and watching is learning sometimes, but playing more is -awesome-. I play some of his friends while I'm there sometimes, and I learn more about what to do and how to -play-. If you get what i'm saying. I know how to play, but ..er, -playing- is my issue. Nerp. So yeah. I like going and supporting 8D and meeting the people there, and making new friends with common interests is awesome.

Mine played....>_>. Not as much as me, but she played. She came one day, and helped me win a teams tournament. (Her brother bailed early 'cuz he had a basket ball game to play in.) In some instances....he would have been better, but she worked out. Also if your girlfriend makes you comfortable it's a plus. you want to play as comfortably as possible. I used to put on the wreck juice back in the day anytime she was around.

Messing around with my friends...sandbagging and what not. When she appeared: Sorry guys...I'm not about to lose.

T~T Well it wouldn't work...she doesn't get jealous...which is more of a blessing than anything.

I just wish that since I happen to spend so much time with her that we could spend of that time also playing smash.

i've dated my chick for four years. i am 21. we are serious.

she's never been to a tournament. she's asked to come, and then i remind her that she'd be locked into a commitment that lasts anywhere from 5-10 hours, and then maybe afterwards at someone's house, to watch and occasionally play a game that she only likes marginally and have me run around talking to other people i haven't seen in weeks. if she does play, she will rarely find someone that doesn't completely three-stock her, as we live in MD/VA. all those hours, nothing but smash.

in the end, she always thinks of something better to do on a saturday--like, i don't know. paint.

but i am training her game and watch!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I wonder if gay guys or girl lesbian smashers have brought there boyfriends/girlfriends to tournaments. That'd be interesting. Especially when the girl wins and she starts making out with her girlfriend. That'd distract every straight man at a tourney. LOL

I wouldn't bring my gf to a tourney though because she would be bored out of her mind. Sitting there for hours listening to people talk in "smash" language. Yeah smash is its own language for the most part.

Its like me going to watch people play the pokemon card game. I'd be bored ****less.

We all know that girls are a rarity in any gaming community.

In the Smash community some girls like to come because they love the game. Some girls come because they know that they will get attention just from being there.

But what I cant wrap my head around is why a guy would bring his girlfriend with him to a tournament. If I was a girl I would imagine that the last thing I would want to do is come watch a bunch of sweaty, smelly random guys play an old video game in a cramped and crowded room with a lack of chairs for hours at a time.

I get that our girls want to bond with us, and might want to do what we want to do from time to time. They might even tag along just because they want to spend time with us, even if they may not have our full attention. But overall, a tournament is one of the last places I would wanna take my girl if I had a choice. Its just not a good place for a date.

Anyone else agree/disagree?
People take their girlfriends to tournaments to either cheat (showing them off during matches), or to prove that nearly 60% of nerds actually have lives.

To spread cooties. Second best way to win only behind a boob flash.

33 percent of women ages 18 and up play video games – surpassing the 18 percent of boys ages 17 and younger who play video games

I agree. AZ grand challenge had a crowded venue, and the extra 5+ random girls there did nothing to help.

I can understand them wanting to be there for support and stuff, but I honestly feel a lot of it is attention grabbing as well (and that goes for the men who bring them there..."look! I have a GF and a life" is good and all, except no one cares either way). My sister (who is Dekar's GF) is the only exception, because she actually plays the game/runs venues. The rest just take up space.

I'd go with my boyfriend to a tourney.

But then again, I like watching Brawl anyways.

=]

As for other cases, they may just be bringing their girlfriends to show off. Others may bring them for support. The rest bring them because they both enjoy Brawl. It varies, really.

O_o I wonder what the heck is up with this, "Gamers don't have a life" thing? I've been playing games since i could read. (3 years old, baby, get at me.) I have a life. Most of the people I know that game have a life and/or a job. It's called a hobby...or in cases like Justin Wong it IS his job. I think the "Gamers have no life" concept is outside of the door. What people consider a "life" is going somewhere and wasting money just for the sake of going. In my opinion, that's stupid. If i go somewhere, I have a purpose. Go to the mall...I plan on buying or at least pricing something out. I go with the intent of doing SOMETHING. That or I meet someone there. I don't just go to the mall because it's something to do. That's actually more of a waste of time than playing video games.

ANYWAY: The point is that female gamers do exist, and they're on the rise more and more because it's okay to admit it. I don't really understand why it wasn't before...but whatever. A guy bringing his g/f to a tournament doesn't mean he's showing her off. Some might be interested...you never know.

My fiancee knows tourneys mean a lot to me, and I've brought her to tourneys before. Having your partner take interest in something that means a great deal to you is part of a healthy relationship.

She also comes for friendlies and Mario Kart. XD

Sometimes they have legitimate reasons. Sometimes they do it just to show-off. Hey, look at me, I've got a girlfriend. Sometimes, they show her off and shamelessly make out with her every chance they get.

Those people need to be shunned. Or, preferably, receive a swift kick in the behind when no one's looking.

For some reason...it was almost treated as a taboo if women played. The first thing that was mentioned when growing up was "Immaturity". That was followed by "No Life". You'd get "Only children play video games." Or, "Unlike you, I do something outside of..." (That's a riot, because most people do.) The one that kills me, "I do more mature things than play video games". Then they turn around and watch Friends, Seinfeld and the like. Yeah...that's really more mature.

Sorry....I tend to come across the most contradictive people in my life no matter where I go.

Can't forget the most priceless one I've personally gotten, "I'm a girl...girls don't DO that sort of thing."

Let's not even get into how girl gamers were treated while I was in high school. People suck.

<3 Crismas, though, she's mad beast.

I highly doubt the validity of that.

Ive definitely seen some ugly guys make out with their miraculously hot girlfriends right after matches. Smash girls are supper attractive. Its mad weird haha.

I hate them no matter where it is. Once as a kid I was at the airport (we were coming back from Vietnam) and standing leaned against the wall of the baggage claim was this youngish couple making out. And they kept going on and going and going. Or the idiots who do it on crowded streets or crowded trains.

Then there are the idiots who bring their girlfriends/boyfriends to functions such as small parties, gamemeets, movie nights, etc. and spend most of the night making out with them. I just wanna punch them. Either spend time with your friends or stay home with your smooching doll.

I don't think I've ever made out with anyone in public, ever. Mostly because I don't even like making out much.

I highly doubt the validity of that.

Not to mention that even if it were true, women generally do not play the same games as men to the same extents. 20% of women regularly enjoying Bejeweled is very different from 12% of men regularly playing fightinggames and 12% regularly playing FPS (numbers pulled out of my tuchas).
