That, and these forums aren't exactly libraries of English textbooks themselves. (No hate, Animal!)

English is an amazing language. It's just also very...involved. Of course, when I feel lazy, I switch to Mandarin. Having no tenses or articles and a base grammatical pattern of Subject + Verb (+ Object) is amazing.

Swedish is delightful to listen to, I had a roommate who's from Sweden. He used to ask me questions about English all the time. He's doing beautifully.

And so, I agree with most here that Armada's English is fine. A little immersion would be helpful, but hell, that comes with the territory.

What's your native language, Queen?

Mandarin's easy for English-speakers to learn to speak because the grammatical structure is fundamentally similar. But learning to read and write it? Blah.

Korean goes subject + object + verb, which makes sense but involves rethinking your basic method to expressing ideas if you're used to English. Plus it's got all the particles and grammar rules and exceptions and tenses and all of that. But the alphabet makes it so much easier to read and write!

English is ridiculously nuanced, and that's why I'm just grateful that Armada has learned as much as he has. If we expected him to know English on our level, we would also have to expect him to quit SSBM and devote the time to studying the language...

I was thinking that, but immersion is hard to simulate outside of a second-language environment.

Unless Armada just wants to stay w/ us for a year to practice smash english...

My native language is English. I actually adore the reading and writing system for Chinese, but I agree that it can get quite complex sometimes. It's a language of implications. It's part of what I love about it. That and the particle 把.

As for it being easy to speak, I agree with that only partially. A number of the sounds you make are not present English and so the actual process of speaking can become somewhat difficult. I remember originally having trouble with the "r" sounds in Putonghua/Mandarin. It's a little bit like a French "r" but with a bit more of a thrust.

Of course I agree with you in reqards to Armada's English skills. It's helpful when people are doubtful while learning a language as it can be channeled to learning the language well. My roommate, when she was studying Greek and Latin, would look up words constantly so that she could be sure she was using them as precisely and accurately as possible.

As for expectations, I don't really expect people to know English well, I mostly just want people to understand that sometimes one can be wrong in one's native tongue.

The Irish Mafia: English have for a long time been my worst subject in school. But i have going from really bad to okay so i am happy =).

But is my English that bad?
Learn a new language is not that easy :p
I'm not trying to make fun of you or anything, I just can't help but find it a little silly. And don't worry, I know how hard learning a new language is. I'm trying (and failing) to learn latin now, it's ridiculously hard. English is probably harder, lol. Don't worry, it's not that bad. If you can communicate an idea, you're doing fine.

I don't think the falcon peach matchup is that bad for peach, to be honest. it's been my best matchup for some time now. I think if you get him off the stage, most peach mains can ledgeguard him with their eyes closed. I've played so many falcons I can do it in my sleep. Asides from that, I think falcon has a lot of trouble starting his combos if peach effectively cc's and spaces. Also the zero-80 chaingrab helps her out.

I really don't like the Falcon matchup but I'm learning it slowly.

Your English is good Armada, we can understand you. :)

Oh and Latin is a pain in the ***, I took it for 4 years in high school. Ecce Romani ftw.

I hate the Falcon matchup, because you have to be extremely patient and accurate to avoid his nairs and grabs. Most characters are easy to approach with turnips, but CF not cause he just nairs through the turnips. :/

that's why your airdodge, or can up-b if you are lower than them
Thanks for this advice. It really helped me in some matches escaping that nasty knee from CF.

Yes, that's true. Most Peach players I know have a secondairy because of Falcon lol. Me too (Jiggs and Sheik), but I don't like to play with those boring characters and I don't like to abandon Peach, because that feels like treason:psycho:

It would be great if you could share some advice about how to **** Falcon with Peach:)

Wife's was good too back in the day.

@ Armada: your english is fine for someone who doesn't speak it as a first language. there's a fellow where i work who's learning english and has complianed to me that it's "so harder than spanish"... and it's true. english is much more complex than it needs to be. you'll get it no worries lol.

Oh! Get called out...

But seriously, what are some tricks for this match-up? Everybody knows chain-throwing and Bair edge-guarding, but how do you GET to these positions?

I think what a lot of people don't realize about Falcon is that his aerials have really ****ty priority; unless he's outspacing you with the end of his legs on his nair or his dair then even moves like ftilt beat out his aerials and set him up for chain grabs. His moves are also much slower compared to your nair, so if you see him coming and he has committed to an approach move, you can jump up and nair and it will beat/trade with anything unless he's directly above you with the dair

How you respond to his pressure is really key; mostly he's going to try and make you commit to an option that will leave you open to a grab; this reduces your options to either getting away, doing moves that have little to no lag (slap, fc nair) in hopes of baiting him, or beating him to the punch.

Walling off his recovery options is great too; I like to float out with a turnip, then z-drop it to force him to recover low and either bair or grab the ledge so he can't get back.

The most important thing is keeping your stock after you kill them; with one hit you can land probably 40%, but you have to stay alive to keep the lead. Otherwise really really good Falcons can turn the tables on you after they respawn, so try and hold your stock as long as possible until you get a good opening.

Also, I'm incredibly drunk right now, but I hope this helps!

Not that I've ever played any really good falcons, but that's my least favorite part of the matchup lol

i know its probably kinda lame to pick armada, but i like armada lol.

pink shinobi is funny too :]
i actually say Armada is my favorite peach player too. After all, it ended up being him and Mango (my Jiggs inspiration) at the grand finals of Genesis.

groundfloat bair destroys falcon when recovering from below. You can also use the dash attack here, it dips below the ledge. I usually fair when he goes high. if he goes mid, I turnip him. Every falcon up-b's immediately after getting hit by the turnip, so I float at the top of his up-b where he has the least mobility options and fair.
ledgeguarding falcon is easy, getting him off the stage is hard.

Falcon can tech into the stage after being hit with groundfloat bair.... I am going to try aggressive offstage edgeguarding vs. him from now on.

Why isn't there some reliable way to combo CF into an upsmash at KO% like there is with Fox?
