Unlocking characters. It just didn't have the same magic. I actually went for a year without unlocking Mewtwo or GaW.

There also wasn't a stage in brawl that had the "woah, this is pushing the system" feeling that melee's FoD had. The stage's also carry a cool sense of nostalbia with them brawl doesn't.

0-death combos and gimps. I love when one does one of those and I do the other, and we're just like >_> *high five*

Chasing people around and chaining moves together is lots of fun, especially when it gets really far in to the combo and they're like OMFG NOOOOOOOOO

Plus I love making people indulge in screams of terror when it happens.

yeah. This game is awesome.

some of my favorite things

- predicting a tech with ganon and grunting as you stomp on their face
- double jump uair with bowser predicting their jump and smooshing them
- landing a bowser fsmash (instant win)
- 0-death combos since they require skill, prediction, response and are not guaranteed.
-trapping your oppenent into a mistake so that they know they're dead seconds before it even happens
-doing humiliating moves like a zelda spike, pan spike, bowser ko grab, falcon chokeslam, ganon warlock kick spike

and my favorite highlight.
- 4 stocking a door-to-door salesman after proposing I would buy his product if he could beat me in smash. Naturally he used marth, but he met knee after knee and couldn't even take off a stock.

I don't think I can say anything new that I like about the game because I'm pretty sure everything has been said in this thread. So, I'll add that I like Melee because it can fit in my pocket.

I've always do Wave-dashing on Melee, my favorite tech ever.

Right now, my favorite things are probably Doc and doubles.
Also the pure epicness and how pumped I get from playing it.
How it never gets boring, no matter how long we play.
How every match has something that makes it awesome.

I liked how Link's forward smash could land both strikes on characters that weren't heavyweight.
I liked how it actually felt rewarding to unlock Final Destination.
I liked juggling.
I like the Melee haters who make comments on the game that are ignorant and irritating, yet hilarious.

The Speed of the Game is much better than Brawls Floatyness haha you had
to do alot of things to keep up in a match with the opponent
Wavedashing made Melee more fun also it just seemed like Melee didnt get
as bored as quickly Brawl got to me. I mean I got bored of Melee for a period of time
but it took me a while and for brawl for the spped of the game not really being fast
makes me bored sometimes pretty quickly

Sounds to me like you need to play more SSBM.

Anyway, here's another long list of stuff:

I love how this game makes me roll on the floor laughing more than any other.
I love how it happens during tournament matches.
I love how colourful the game it.
I love how "SSBM" sounds when said.
I love how there are so many ways people pronounce "Melee".
I love how there are an unlimited number of playing styles for each character.
I love my earlier memories of the game, like arguing with friends that Roy actually sucked and that's why I keep beating them with Marth.
I love how Smashboards gives both "Smashboards" and "Marth" a red underline.
I loved my first tournament (thank you Lanowen).
I loved my second tournament, and every one after that.
I love hosting tournaments and hearing the sounds.
I love the sound test.
I love how mesmerizing it can be to watch a really flashy Fox.
I love the Adventure mode.
I love the feeling of hitting a new record on Home Run Contest.
I love the rush of excitement when you're about to get a new Target Test record.
I love Mewtwo.
I love Captain Falcon's amazingness and all the hilarious stuff that happens in Falcon dittos on Yoshi's Story.
I love falling through the middle of Pokemon Stadium and Poke Floats.
On that note, I love Poke Floats too.
I love shield pressuring.
I love all the glitches.
I love how Melee players adamantly do not play Brawl.
I love how strong the Melee community still is.
I love how strong our community still is.
I think SSBM is my favourite game ever.

I love the way technical characters feel under your fingers, and the way that after practicing a character so much, you can just make them do what you want. It's kind of hard to explain, does anyone know the feeling? So rewarding...

A feeling of control. I know exactly what you mean. That's really one of the main reasons I live Melee over brawl, and even Brawl+. It seems that in addition to taking AT's etc., they also went out of their way to make things annoying to control and stupid e.g. Falcon's Up-B, not enough friction, etc.
