What's up with all this rage quitting?

I constantly see people quit right when they are about to die in this live stream of pound. Seriously? Just accept the god **** loss and wait until you die. It makes you look like a little ***** and it makes the footage look worse.

And no, it doesn't save much time. The 1 second it saves is wasted when they put the controllers down since the set is over or when they are deciding on counter picks and such. It is just ****ing stupid.

Why does it annoy you that much? It's not rage quitting. Do you really think every single person that LRAStart's after a match is genuinely angry?

Honestly, there's no need to make a thread to whine about something that doesn't even really effect you.

I've seen people complain about this quite a bit on SWF, it's silly.

Yea, it's really not that big of a deal. People need to chill out about it. They aren't rage quitting.

If anything, this game needs more ragequitting. People are so caught up with trying to be nice that they forget to put their emotions into the game.

I wanna see people pumping their fists and getting a bit loud when they win a close set. Of course there should be a limit. A happy medium between Tiger Woods' fist pump and Howard Dean's BYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

wow.
ragequit is quitting when you have a stock LEFT and are not dying at the moment.
when you are about to die on the last stock, and reset the game, you are doing everyone a favour by not going to the results screen and you can get on to the next match quicker. that is not ragequitting.

Yeah...I'd say this thread probably wasn't needed. (No offense.) It's not ragequitting. It's just something people do. *shrugs* It can actually save more than just 1 second, also. Regardless. it's nothing bad. It's nothing to worry about. Be chill.

I disagreed with "quitting out" a while ago. Then I started doing it myself, and now I get annoyed when people don't quit out themselves.

Quitting out isn't necessarily for saving time, but more so for keeping the pace and momentum of the matches.

And it definitely isn't rage quitting, lol.

PS: Fun fact- sometimes smashers in FL will quit out when the other player starts a combo on the last stock, lol.

those arent RQs , they always do it when the match is about to end anyway , its not like they have one stock , havent been killed yet and end the match halfway

they always do it whne the match is already settled plus it doesnt change anything to the footage lol

Think of it like intentionally killing yourself faster when you can't make the recovery. For the most part, it's not being rude, it's just to make things go by faster.

But don't get me wrong, there's still lots of rage quitting. (lol mango and kage. L+R+A+S combo)

The only time this bothers me is when the WINNER quits like that. It's not common, but I've seen it happen. It should only be the loser that is allowed to LRAS.

I find it rude for people to quit out (whether it is a "rage" quit or not). Akin to seeing a football team walking off the field with 2 minutes left and trailing by 2 touchdowns. It shows no respect for the opponent who just beat you.

I turn pause off in my matches but largely because when I mash out of grabs I sometimes hit the start button by accident.

I agree with AZ for the most part...

To me, it's not that quitting out itself is that bad, but it is bad to make it become habit. One of these days, a mistake will be made (be it miscounted stocks or if the lethality of the final blow is debatable), and a very important match will be ended prematurely which will undoubtedly spark controversy. The only way to determine whether quitting out is acceptable or not in a given situation involves opinion, and plenty of matches end in an atypical fashion. Although I don't ever get mad at my opponents for quitting out, I really think that it should be banned in a competitive setting.

Umm...its like 6 seconds faster (literally) and chances are in tournament you are gonna be thinking for awhile about your CP after you lost, meaning you aren't actually "getting to your match faster".

I think 90% of people that do it, do so because they don't like seeing that they lost in bold letters.

It's like walking off the field before the clock hits zero. I have very little respect for the players I saw quit out. Seems to be that they are being little *****es cause they can't handle seeing a win screen for the opponent. The whole "its faster" is complete BS in a tournament setting.

That's definitely not true. I really don't think 90% of the people who do it are generally upset or angry about their loss that they would quit like that. It's just a habit. People do it when they play massive amount of friendlies, so they'll do it in tournament if they know they've lost.

I'll do it if I'm dying off the top or know I'm not recovering on the last stock.

I was talking about friendlies! In tournament people can do whatever they want. If another player see's it as a sign of disrespect then that's how they take it.

It's just like in football, that actually happens! no rule against it.

I think it's the opposite. I've always been of the opinion that you can do whatever you want in friendlies (particularly in regards to items and such). But quitting in tournaments is actually useful for some people. Sometimes, seeing the win screen is enough to turn a set around. If you win the first match and they win the second, you could l-r-a-start in order to psyche them out for the next match. They don't exactly get the satisfaction of their win and have trouble keeping momentum.

I think lrastarting is more comparable to baseball like in the bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, where a guy gets a homerun to win, and everyone walks off the field before the ball actually goes over the wall. Of coarse that'll never happen though, as much as I wish it would. In regards to ragequitting, ragequitting in my opinion is someone who doesn't finish the match and leaves mid game. Not lrastarting when there is no way to recover on their last stock. Some say it's unsportsmanlike, some say it's speeding up the game. In the end, has ragequitting changed the outcome of a match? No, I don't think so.

I don't think it's allowed in football?! What would you say about Starcraft when they type 'GG'? Would you keep playing until every little unit of yours is destroyed? What about Chess when the player resigns? Are you gonna keep playing until your opponent gets a checkmate on you? Stopping the match in Melee is no different than any of those! If anything, I think it shows respect because you know when you lost! Most "ragequits" I've seen is when they get edgehogged on the last stock! Nothing bad about that!

Quitting out when it is CERTAIN that the winner of the match has been decided is one thing.

Making it habit, and one day accidentally ruining the outcome of an important tourney match is another.

I don't think that happened at this tournament. So I just don't see what all the fuss is about. I agree that it shouldn't really be made a habit. I'd like to think you could control yourself from doing it though, haha. I don't do it in tournament when I win. I only do it when I know I'm dead. So if I make a mistake, it would only hurt myself and not the other player.

There's nothing wrong with that imo. Like I said I don't even get pissed when ppl do it, but my opinion on making everything 100% fair in a competitive setting still stands.

I don't see why this is a problem at all. If they accidentally give up their match thinking they have no options when they truly do, then the only person they are hurting is themselves. Do it if you want, but realize that you might screw up with judging your own recovery abilities.

People do it to keep momentum. Lain always does it, and he's never mad. He always knows what his CP will be, he just wants to keep the mentality.

There is nothing wrong with quitting a match when you know you're about to die on the last stock. It's just like resigning in chess. A person knows he has no chance of winning, so out ot respect, he doesn't drag it out to the checkmate. In fact, sometimes it's considered disrespectful NOT to resign in hopeless positions.
