Spear Pillar and Final Destination have the best backgrounds...and Brinstar Depths in Melee was awesome as well.

Online Practice stage could have dead music as if nothing existed yet. It just sets a mood with the right properties. FD is definitely nice. Spear Pillar is amazing. Green Hill Zone is cheerful ^_^ Smashville, Lylat Cruise, thats all i could remember. Out of the custom stages, the mountain one is the only good one :|

I'd have to say Lylat Cruise. That's truly a testament to what good animation can do.

I do, however, really like the bg of New Pork City. I've take really long, close looks at it. Pretty nice, especially if you've played the mother games
