You can't use MK from the heart, MK takes your heart.
Anyway, results seem pretty awesome, I wish I was there. I got caught wagging cause when I wag I usualy go to my Dad's house since he leaves for work at like 6am and gets home at like 5pm, so I thought I'd be ok but.... He came home for lunch. So me = fail at wagging.
So I spent my whole weekend studying... I actually didn't stop studying. I am now going crazy. Lol

Okay, so I just called Hotel Ibis, they're emailling me some pricing info as we speak. I'll be calling the Convention Centre now.

EDIT: Convention Centre is sending stuff now. Onto Sheraton, I guess.

EDIT: I don't think Sheraton is particularly looking for our services, based on the questions they asked me.

EDIT: Also, I need a way to say 'video game tournament', while still sounding swish, and a company I represent for Convention Center. :p

So basically we can't do anything with the Convention Centre unless we get a sponsor??? Either/or we lie and risk the consequences :p

Computer game tournament??? Gaming tournament??? Maybe also say it's a national tournament to sorta give some credibility to it (as something doesn't really go to a national competitive level unless it's popular enough :p)...

We'll probably get a sponsor in the form of Gametraders, hopefully. If not, we'll go beg to some other video game selling company.

Well guys I think it's time that the older ones *looks at Bob, Kane and Robert* try finding sponsors, guess we need an action plan. I would look for them but an 18 yr old with no prior experience in events would just give them a laugh or two.

And yeah I think a National Tournament or something.

Hmm. Maybe we should look into having it on the 6th or something.
if the dates will be changed, i will sort of need to know quickly, being the organising i need to do with my friend.

And yeah I think a National Tournament or something.
in my opinion, i think that would make them swing a little more to the positive response, being that it's a National, it'll draw a lot more than just say, our regular 20 to 30 attendees.

but we'll see what happens i suppose, and good luck with it

RE TERMINOLOGY: We can't NOT say it's a video/computer game tournament without, y'know, lying and stuff, so I guess the best way to put it is "an (open?) national video game tournament"... As Technodeath said, National = credibility (hooray for paraphrasing :p)

RE SPONSORS: Well, they'll most likely want something in writing (we can't just link the to the discussion on the forums lol)... And in order to get something in writing, we need to figure out pretty much the core aspects of the tournament... Things I'd expect if I was going to sponsor something:

Exactly what we're having (something as simple as "to hold a national game tournament in Perth, with the following games present: blah blah blah" Also might want to state that this is not for profit of anyone but the competitors themselves, or something along those lines, so that the sponsor doesn't get the idea that they'll be getting a cut of the money of something :p)
Date/timeframe of tournament (since it's so far ahead, obviously this'd be a rough estimate)
Projected competitor numbers (not sure whether we can use Eastern tournaments as a ballpark, given the stupidly pricey flights to Perth which'll severely affect our Eastern ally turnout :p)
What we are looking for/will need in a sponsor (this is something we'll need to discuss as well - if possible, they might even be able to provide set-ups and/or all or part of the venue fee, which'd be awesome xD At the same time, though, the more we ask for the more advertising and control of the tournament they'll expect I suppose, so the right balance for us is what we need to find...)

[/stating the obvious]

We'll still need to discuss side events, then. I tried to poll people last night, but no real consensus was reached before my net cut out. If one was reached after it, someone tell me. :p

Main events will still be Brawl, Melee and SF4, though, since no other console game can compete with those numbers unless we start having Halo tournaments.

i think the most simple and best way to get our point across would be through a well written Business Plan.

i think it would also make us look a lot more serious about our goals and what we want to achieve also

Hal-no... The FPS community will **** all over the fighter game community in terms of what's required (4TVs + 4 consoles all linked for one freakin' match probably)... Given it's only a three day thing, I reckon we could only fit in one other game (to be played on the same day as SF4???) before it'd all become way too convoluted and people would have to start picking and choosing which game they want to participate in...

We could think of other side events though, similar to Dodgeball @Rocky, to take place in the breaks or something??? Card game tournament??? Or if something a little more active, there's a grass area nearby we could have something... I vote for a massive game of Duck Duck Goose with a 200m circle circumference :p

Also Pete, did you ask Ibis/ConvCentre/other places about leaving our setups there overnight??? It's all well and good booking it for three days, but I don't think anyone wants to have to pack up and set up again every night/day :p Plus, it's a security issue as well - we don't want anything being stolen/broken over night :p

Possibly, with emphasis on "well written"... Does anyone here actually do or know anyone who does commerce :p ???

Okay, just got off the phone with the University Club at UWA. There's would be $1200 a day, which is the same price as the Ibis. Both without catering. Drinks at UWA are absurdly expensive, so, you can just buy your own food from the restraunt there. Also, they called me after my email. I feel so powerful. :D

EDIT: Also, Halo was a joke. :p The forms and such for each place assures reasonable care will be taken with any goods left overnight, although damages are not insured by he Hotel. Standard stuff, but it means they will take care of anything we leave there.

RFLAN charges $30 venue fee for two days, with 350 people and they wouldn't be using much more power than us. So, $36 for three days venue fee is pretty nice, really.

On the other hand, they raised concerns that their tables may not be big enough/have enough. So, anyone feel like bringing in tables? :p

EDIT:
List of possible side events which we can poll people about later (add any if I missed them):
  • Tekken (pretty secure, I think. has a large scene in Perth)
  • TvC (will have been out for a year by that point, and is on Wii, so if you have it you may not have to bring a console for it. Seems like it'll be pretty popular here)
  • Mario Kart Wii/Double Dash (Alzi loves this, possibly because its a Nintendo game. Should get a few entrants solely because of the name)
  • F-Zero GX (same as the above, minus Alzi loving it. More competitive than Mario Kart, but may get less entrants because of that. Is bloody awesome to watch competitively, though)
  • MvC2 (like TvC, only faster, pumped full of steroids and on the SF4 consoles instead of the Wii ones. Would also probably get a few entrants based on the fact its MAHVEL.)
  • BlazBlue/Guilty Gear (both fairly obscure, saddly, and look really weird, so will probably get the least people from our end. OzHadou may have a few for it, though)
  • Pokemon (either DS or PBR, either is easy to set up. DS would be BYO, obv., and PBR is on the Wii, so easily done)
  • Physical activities (Duck Duck Goose, dodgeball, whatever. probably get entrants for novelty)

Some of them are necessary for number counting, others less so. Thus, some could probably get in based on the fact only a few would enter, thus it wouldn't require any more setups or time on the schedule.
