Just follow the grime...
Alright, at the beginning you seemed to be playing very scared. Always retreating and throwing moves out I assume in an attempt to scare your opponent. However the moves weren't spaced very well. So I would work on your spacing. But when you play scared in general it often causes you to go into the patterns that you feel to be "safe" you then become much easier to read and your opponent will have an easier job capitalizing on your errors. As your friend was doing while you were playing that way.

Once you started to fall behind you became a little more aggressive. You stopped playing "scared", and your opponent was thrown off, as you were not giving him all that space and time to form his plan of attack as he had been able to while you were retreating and playing safe. I'd suggest going more for this approach to the game. As you can see you started making quite the comeback after you started taking away his options as opposed to just trying to protect against them.

Another thing is to buffer your run after the F-throw for the Usmash, 'cause I believe it is guaranteed at the % he was at. And even if it isn't or they are a couple % higher, you have a much better chance of landing it with the buffered run.

Also. Nice Thunair on the edge there.

THUNAIR *Watches

ahhh my old setup for thunair, sexy execution

man if everyone claimed a thunair i would watch every vid XD

one thing to add to rollers comments, you used qac alot, and as such you should keep track of the fact that you will have massive lag next time you land. i noticed you canceled it sometimes with tjolt, and i am unsure of whether or not you know that it will be there the next time you land after that. if you dont know about it, just keep note and either dont jump out of qac or pick a safe time to get rid of it

Looking for some quick tips... these are my first offline matches with pikachu ever. So I'll take any advice you guys can give :p Not only things that I do wrong, but also things that I should do more often. My pika is at its beginning stages right now, so ANY advice that you give will help me mold my pikachu into a character I can use at tournaments as a secondary. Thanks in advance :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42cubb_fysk (2 matches)
First match is vs Tetsion, a Pit from IL. He's good, but he doesn't seem to know how to fight Pikachu that well. Second match is vs. Quik's Wario... he's ranked #3 in IL and is a great player.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpBs6hWZekM&feature=channel
This is vs. Diska, somewhat of a newcomer to IL. He saved and uploaded this match because of his spike I'm guessing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgct6vA4vwE
Vs. Vare, a good Sonic from IL. It's a long match, but that just means there's more to critique :p

Thanks again guys

I know I don't really contribute to this thread, but if I were inclined to do so, I certainly wouldn't waste my time on anything other than a tournament or money match. People just don't play the same in these as compared to friendlies.

Lol yes it's true. :p I'm getting a bit discouraged though because I'm getting absolutely wrecked by some characters (like MK). I feel like I'm missing a lot from my game, which is why I need some critiques :p

Holy crap, DLA is gonna use Pikachu?
Love the Ganon, mah' dude.
Haha thanks. I've always loved watching Anther play, and his match vs MikeHAZE at MLG (plus ESAM's great placements) inspired me to pick up the Chu. I know Anther lost the set, but it was still a great set despite the horrible matchup.

I could still use those critiques though... :O

Those for critique, Biggy?

I'd critique Kenny's, but we already talked about 'em via AIM.
DLA, I'll try to get to yours soon.

Ugh, more people need to critique...... this thread gets so backed up. I'll try to do better. x.x

Arilkie: i dont think ive seen u play until now.... u have a really good pikachu. U have some nice mindgames and like a true pikachu you seem to use all of his moveset. but from wat i saw the players u were playing aint really high level fighters and also against the MK on FD ur use of qac at the start cost u some % damage. But overall its a good pikachu, id love to know wat region ur from!

Also I just watched scatz .. he looks good also but you cant really push ur pikachu skills if your not playing against quality opposition! which brings me on to esam.. some1 who has beein playing pro players for years.

Esam: nice showing against that ice climbers. thats what seperates u from the other pikas atm.. u just no how to win and ur the king of match-ups.

Here is my take on the two leading USA pikachus.. there are two different styles of pikas. id say anther is an aggressive technical pika like myself.. and theirs the pikachus like esams that are also technical but are more reserved and defence minded. Because i dont play brawl anymore Ive been analysing styles and coming up with my own types of stats inrelation to the current metagame.

Marks out of 10
Esam
Technical pika skills: 9
Mindgames/unpredictablilty: 8
Entertainment value: 9
Influence on other pika players :8
Match-ups :10
Big game player(big tourney placements): 10

Anther
Technical pika skills: 10
Mindgames/unpredictablilty: 9
Entertainment value:9
Influence on other pika players:10
Match-ups :9
Big game player: 7

Conclusion.
To me anther is and will always be the best.. but in competetive smash Esams style, self belief and his big game performances tell me that what he did in those big tourneys will be repeated time nd time again. As for anther i always belived he was at least top 10 in country but he hasent hit his full potential especially in big big tourneys. against anti last year when he was ****** him but never won.. nd mike haze this year.. dominating but not seeing the set through, i dont no if its choking or not but with anthers abilty he should be up there with ally and m2k in those national tourneys.. because he can do s**t no other pikas can do.

On a final note.. I find it funny that anther has so many videos on volt tackle and is seen to many pikas as the best pika.. but hes not mentioned in the top 51 smashers.

http://allisbrawl.com/blogpost.aspx?id=72310

thats wack.. it seems the brawl community is like the music industy.. ur only good as ur last hit. (p.s not trying to start an off topic discussion but i just had to let you no if u didnt.

Anther stopped going to tournaments and started placing 3rd or lower at most of them (AFAIK), and hasn't done well at nationals. You can't always base people off of their past performances. So, currently, he is considered worse than he could be.

There isn't a SINGLE midwest player on that list. The blog is basically "the top 51 smash players according to some random WC player." There's so much WC bias, I really wouldn't pay any attention to it. It doesn't have Lain, Judge, or Shugo either.

Funny. Cause those players always beat me in tourney and the MK player consistently 2-3 stocks me. Don't know how much more quality I can get from that other than just straight up getting JV 4 stocked every game...

lol @2:13 on the first one. But I swear, for a second it looked almost like I play.

I noticed a few things. The biggest one was that once you were off stage, you were really predicable how you were going to recover, and with your QA in general. Mix it up a bit more!
Grabs...I don't recall seeing many of those, but there were a few, and you had plenty of good times you could have got them.
WAY too much thunder, too, a lot of them missed and you paid for it. Be careful when using it.
Also, use D-tilt. That move is amazing.
And more running away with tjolts.

i was a bit thunder happy, I see now ( I was kinda thinking it already but whatever)
How can I mix it up more? both recovery and on stage inbetween camping?

vs marth some of those uairs during 1st stock.should have been nairs, unless you were trying to keep nair fresh for the kill.

nice 2nd kill, lol controller port silliness.

the dodging at 3:11. I think that you could have been hit with marth's side B but you're opponent didn't think of it.

ur 2nd death, watchout for those OOS options when your spacing attacks against their shield. you didnt need to keep going forward with that forward air, or maybe he woulda UP B-ed so... i dunno.

uhm I dont know anything about zss so i won't critique that one, i struggle against zamus'

the last video the link won't work.

When recovering change up the angle of your QA's.
Make it look like you're going for the ledge then zip right around it.
Try Skullbashing up high then QAing around him when he approaches to the ground.
Just don't use the same pattern all the time.

As for on the ground I still have trouble with that myself. I pride my Pika in living forever though.

I try...and it never works :( They hit me out of it.
Pika's pivot grab is pretty useless most of the time imo. Doesn't increase his grab range by that much, so if they use anything even a little disjointed, you'll probably get hit.

I've seen a few Pikas use it moderately well, but after falling for it once or twice, it's easy to avoid (unlike monster pivot grabs like Snake, Oli, etc.).

Nice cam, I liked the second kill against the marth on frigate, at the start of that particular match u were using up'air way to much and cost you a stock, but you switched it up during the match which was nice. Against the zss i felt u could of forward grabed more (im pretty sure its a cg on neutral stages ask esam) & also use pikachus moveset more try to mix it up with more side B, Thunder and qac mindgames. Thunder is very powerful & effective if used at the right time.

Arikie
Ur matches were more engaging to watch because the quality of opposition is better when compared to the matches last week. Some of ur techniques never worked on seans mk wen compared to the matches i saw last week. All I have to say to you is keep playing quality players because ur pika will become better nd better especially wen it comes to spacing nd decision making. ur losing now but u might start succedding in the near future.

Esam: I like watching ur duels with seibrik.. cause thats wat u call a high quality mk! u used to show matches of u nd him in 2009 he used to dominate alot but now.... your pretty much his competition in ur area if im not mistaken. Ur the only pika that takes full advantage of counter picking and like I said before ur tecnical pika skills with ur match-up experience makes u hard to beat.. theres nothing really to critique in terms of ur gameplay.. the person u lost to is really good.. i never watched the other matches.. theres no way ur gona lose to a snake or falco... I can already picture a "esam Chaingrab" on that snake & falcs which willl eventually de-motivate opponents.

esam knows how to win ugly.. u guys no wat i mean? like for example we have seen anther dominate mikehaze, m2k and othes but lose.. sometimes its a "skill" wen u can win without playing particualry well.. something other pikas need to learn

Conclude.
I think the future looks good wen it comes to pikachus in usa nd worldwide. I mean their was a point wen there was a huge gap in players pikachu skill levels . a year nd a half ago I could only recognise 9 good pikachu players in the world (esam stealth anther miquel anther Z pikaipika misterE, yone nd a few others).. now it seems alot great pikas everywere whcih can only be a good thing. The only way u gonna get better is to play the game for wat it is (fun entertainment) dont worry urself about tourney placements too much :dizzy:

(p.s im not suggesting theses were the only good pikachus... but via youtube nd tourneys their the only ones I saw.. now alot of people have invested in capture cards and are attending toureys offline so are getting known faster.)

BTW..u guys see the nintendo 3DS? Imagine a smash game on that (i.e mini brawl in ur pocket with wifi!)

@ Esam, the only thing I remember when I saw them was that when you dropped down and used thunder from the ledge, he hit you out of it every time with D Smash for a KO. Thunder plank lower.

DLA:
Match 1-Pit: Make sure you have space in between you and your opponent before you t-jolt. And be careful what you use after your ff fair, it was kinda useless to F-smash after it. Killing pit is an entirely different game to me, all it takes is getting them down low to use their up-b and I go nuts. Mostly with u-air because it's fast, but sometimes I will try to QA directly through them to stop the flying. And, it didn't seem like he knew to DI dsmash, take big advantage of that. Beautiful kills, btw

Match 2-Wario: I can't say much, both Wario and BF are things I personally hate and can't deal with too much. Grab moar! Don't destroy the bike.

Match 3-ROB:Great match, just watch out being predictable on recovery. Also, a fun thing to do is to steal his gyromite and camp him really hard. And GRAB!

Match 4-Sonic:And DLA said, let there be grabs! Lol, I loved that second stock you took off him A LOT. I don't have a lot of sonic experience, but it almost seemed useless to run away much because he can catch up easy. Facing a sonic that loves the spring? Thunder!

Overall: IMO work on your offstage game, both offensive and defensive. Thunder really works wonders, and remember, be crazy with the QA and go weird ways. Be careful using Skull Bash to get back, only use it when you are really far away or definitely going to the edge. Incorporate Bair, Dair, and a few more throws and tilts and it's good!

Kenny:
Match 1-Marth: Marth was playing REALLY patient. I love the risky play with skull bash, but be careful with it. Maybe some more grabs if possible. And tilts.

Match 2-Marth: Spotdodge spam :bee: Ok, maybe follow up with a bit more than the skull bash, there are plenty of good options for big damage. Plus, it was responsible for a lot of your own injuries and deaths. Otherwise, really good.

Match 3-Meta Knight: Really good match. Choose your aerials carefully, and if you are unsure, nair if he is in range. Of course, against MK that can be tough. And wasn't it posted somewhere in the Q&A about a chaingrab on MK?

I'm gonna try to restart my computer or something because youtube is being excessively homosexual about me trying to critique and I will edit this post in a minute.
