My laptop is broken, joe. I'm posting on mah phone.

And housing is just ideal, in my head. Cause if I travel for two hours for a tourney, go back home, then go back to toronto a week later, it just seems tedious.

You got 9th once. Ambrose got 5th for three tournaments and then got 13th.

I haven't worked out a weighting system I like yet, so all tournaments count equally atm.

What was implied by the post is that I really shouldn't be among the proven pros of our region just yet, good job assembling the list though.

Yeah, it's definitely to be taken with a grain of salt.

Also, something I did because I was curious. Number of times each char was used per tournament, sorted by total number of times over the past 5 tournaments. Includes OoP players, of course, since it's meant to be more of a "these are the characters you have to look out for" thing.

Metaknight. 6-7-7-8-11 Avg: 7.8 Sum: 39
Snake. 3-7-6-4-4 Avg: 4.8 Sum: 24

Pokémon Trainer. 0-0-0-0-0 Avg: 0 Sum: 0
Yoshi. 0-0-0-0-0 Avg: 0 Sum: 0

Anything from 5 or below can be considered underrepresented characters. Since for example, Pit is just fUddO using him in every tournament.

Raw data for that is on the second sheet on my spreadsheet, the added data might be off slightly if I misspelt something.

Note that there are three cases of missing mains where I couldn't fill it in, and Coast has unknowns (he played Ganondorf) as did Zetsu (Falco) where I knew what they played.

*EDIT* Also Samus was off. Stupid countif function.

Apparently not.

Just pulling from the last tournament...

Dan-Da-Man
M Prime
Raidos
SK

So yeah, we've got like no Snakes anymore.

I honestly hate MK's dominance. I also honestly wonder how many people MK play MK because they like to, compared to playing him because he's the best.

We totally need more low-tier mains, or we'll get ***** by silly things like Samus (a friend of mine actually mains Samus, but it seems every tourney he has to do something).

I mean, there are characters who are low tier who it's immediately obvious how to beat (keep Ganon from landing an attack, don't mis-space or you eat FSmash, if you have a projectile which he has trouble with (i.e. not Diddy) abuse it), but then you get characters like Samus, Yoshi, Pokémon Trainer, etc. who it might not be immediately obvious how to completely shut down, unless you're Falco, Wolf, or King Dedede, respectively.

Speaking of the King, we have some serious underrepresentation. So I'll be going straight Dedede in our next tournament, since I need to practice him anyways. Prepared to get wrecked by pocket MKs, you bet I am.

there's a difference? the best is the best for a reason, no one wants to be tank when they can be neo, unless they want an excuse for losing. would you really look down on someone for trying to win? i'd say its good for the scene, increased competition. Certainly better than everyone playing their "favourite" character and getting cg'd by ddd for 3 stocks, or pikmin/lazor camped for 8 minutes, then complaining about how bad their character is.

Or they could learn to play past their character's obvious disadvantages.
that's like telling a baseball player to use a twig and just see past its disadvantages, cuz everyone including yourself will be impressed when you actually manage to land a hit.

Why are we still complaining about mk when we dont have any players(sans holy\ally) that are actually "broken"(whiners buzzword for good when it comes to mk) with him :/

I'm not really complaining.

MK is just one of the unwinnable 4 for Ganon.

Which for anyone curious, is Falco, Metaknight, Sheik, and Ice Climbers.
Olimar, ftr, is not one of these.

Y'see, Ganon is one of 7 characters with an actually unwinnable MU. Maybe bump that up quite a bit because of Dedede and Bowser if anyone masters buffered pivot grabbing.

Oh, the other 6 are the guys Dedede either infinites (5) or small steps (Bowser).

What joe said.

TBH, I hate MK with a passion because he forces people to make rules that many other gaming communities would deem completely unnaceptable(LGL) because of his planking abilities.

HOWEVER, if you do not place in tourneys in Canada, then I can assure you metaknight has nothing to do with this. The issue is not MK, its you being free. If you place top 8, then maybe you can start aguing a bit, but realistically the issue is not so big over here.

Also, SupremeDirt don't take this too wrong, I just find it funny that you assume people will bring out pocket MKs to beat you, when realistically you wouldn't really improve in terms of placing much with or without MK being banned. In the same way, I have troubles when people tend to argue matchup at which they have really no experience at a high level, it just sounds kind of hypocritical to pretend you understand how it should be played when you don't understand the basics of the game.

And picking up DDD won't help anyone. Having a bunch of low tier mains that are good is something that helps. Look at king kong for example. Much can be learned from that matchup. But when you have a bunch of players who aren't good with their character, the most one can learn is fundamentals about the matchup. Priority, how to juggle them, etc.

What will be lacking is options. Not know what options and strategies they will implement really hurts when playing a certain matchup. Because of this, people lose to characters that are bad (1 of the reasons). "Oh, I didn't know he could do that" sorta thing.

If you play DDD, considering ur match vs Iliad on PS2, that went somewhat well, but I think personally I could do better because there were some options you had available that you weren't abusing because maybe you just didn't know. 1st of all, you need the "tech skill" to chaingrab a Marth continuously. Then you need to realize that Iliad would upB out of your chain grab every time. you can "mess up" one of the chain grabs to make him upB then charge a smash. Free stock basically. There are other things that come into play, but hat i'm ultimately trying to say is that if your not a good player, it won't really help if you use DDD.

Eh for kkong. Hes a great player when it comes down to using bowser, because he understands how the game should be played, the concept of the inherent rock paper scissors involved in most decisions. Having good low tier mains that are good is not something that helps, its being good that makes you have good low tier mains. On the other hand, he has never really learned how to deal with the pressure of being in a few situations with different options from bowser's(*cough* spotdodge/airdodge habits *cough*).

Switching characters can teach you a few specific habits/punishes, but overall its just how many options you know of that determine whether you will get good or not.

naw the main issue is not we are losing to MKs or playing broken MKs

the main issue is just how much of a ******** character MK is in general. Literally he is so stupid, its ridiculous. i have lost count of how many people have just switched to MK when their original character just wasnt doin it for them anymore.

ally u break my heart man </3 :( u too holy

joe i think uve said it before, the problem with our community is that it is small, but loaded with MKs. especially in the top 10.

but then again brawls a stupid game to be playing competitively so it makes sense in the end.

I have a bad habit against Marth with DDD of not expecting the Dolphin Slash, because fUddO never does it because he knows I will try to pull a dash attack or Smash on him.

Also I can't ****ing powershield and it's pissing me the hell off. I think I'm switching back to CC. Seriously, **** springs.

I don't think a lot of people noticed so I'm going to say it here. There's a tourney called "Revival of Brampton". Its due for April30th. I'm not sure on the rest of the details but there is a thread for it so yall can start populating it.
